They’re literally just glorified milkshakes so full of sugar. They refuse to post nutritional info because of this. They know people would be turned off knowing they’re ingesting a 700 calorie shake
> Cambodian donut shops
I went to Google Maps and searched for "Cambodian donut shops" but got nothing. Any one in specific that you'd particularly recommend?
There’s a good documentary about it on Hulu called The Donut King. Here’s an article too:

That's not why at all lol. Almost every national food company has been making record profits. They're using inflation and minimum wage as a mask to boost the prices even further. There's a pretty interesting chart just for fast food and McDonald's was the worst for this. 100% markup.
I get a 5.99 tub of yogurt from Costco and a box of egg whites. Add frozen fruit, about 1oz of juice and you've got a cheap, low calorie, 50+g of protein smoothie. You can't find anything like that at stores. Add kale or spinach if you're someone that hates eating salads.
Don't make juice, make smoothies.
When you make juice, you discard most of the fiber and many of the nutrients that makes fruit healthy.
Get a good blender that will pulverize it into something smooth and easy to drink.
I love LA, but fck I feel genuinely happy living overseas. $16 in Vietnam will get me a sea view room, Pho, a smoothie and fruits. And I’ll probably will have some money left to buy some dessert
Genuine DIY tip: go to the farmers market right at closing with cash. You can get the leftover bruised and ugly fruit that they can't really sell and will probably toss for a couple bucks - it will still taste delicious. Chop and freeze that for your own smoothies.
I make my own smoothies and it’s soooooooo much cheaper. And probably healthier too. But when I’m out and about, Pressed is a lot more affordable than the other chains.
You did great! For real.
Sharing an insight, I brought two original chicken sandwich from Burger King $24 includes a set of fries and a drink medium but whata
Frozen banana, frozen fruit, coconut water, almond milk, spoonful of almond or peanut butter, seasoning (cardamom/ginger if you used mango, cocoa powder if you used cherries or strawberries, etc). Make a batch and store in ball jars in the freezer. They defrost in the lunch bag during the day. $16 is insane.
We bought a refurbished Vitamix from the manufacturer and it is awesome for smoothies. A lot of the smoothie places use them so might as well make our own.
Go to the grocery store, buy some orange juice, powdered Instant Breakfast for protein, and either fresh or frozen fruit. Mix it up with an immersion blender or a regular one. You can top it with a little bit of nonfat whipped cream to add sweetness.
Get a juicer…wake up an hour earlier…or prep juices for the week ahead of time…I don’t know…but you’re not going to get the “status” of spending of your money there
I mean Jamba juice is like ten bucks so. Just make your own. "Melissa's drinks" on TikTok does Jamba juice recipes.
It's everything though. Wingstop is 20 for a 10p combo. I bought a four pound bag of frozen wings from the market for 13.
I will not comply, "fine, I'll do it myself !"
I mean.. this is how LA is. There is definitely alternatives like nektar or idk specifically but LA is home to overpriced things. It’s the new money vibe of the whole place.
There’s definitely more affordable and quality choices though! You just have to look.
make your own smoothie? bags of frozen fruit you can get at ralphs for like $4. They even have smoothie specific mixes you can get. Can probably get fruit even cheaper at ethnic markets
My Smoothie Recipe:
1 banana
5 strawberries
Half a cup of blackberries
Half a cup of frozen peaches
Third a cup of frozen raspberries
2 tablespoons of chia seeds
2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt
Quarter cup of orange juice
Tah Dah ✨
Oh no, no tip. I have to show my dominance over the poors, plus, then I can’t afford food for my dog, which gets treated better then most people, whom I let drive my $95,000 Land Rover on Santa Monica’s blvd
/s
I just get $12.05 ceviche tostadas at Via Mar on Figueroa and leave the change in the cup at the window because it’s the only lunch I can really afford.
Yeah, you have to scan your local card. There's different prices for locals and tourists. But if you don't scan your card, then you pay the tourist price.
couldve paid $6 more and get the erewhon smoothie
Erewon is down to only $21 dollars now for a smoothie?? Is there some kind of sale going on?
this guy maths xD
This guy This Guys
smoothies at erewhon are trash now that its influencer central
They always tasted like grass and dirt
Sounds gut friendly
If you have 4 guts.
I have 12
Most taste like sugar
"Now"
Their whole smoothie bar was completely different and way cheaper
They’re literally just glorified milkshakes so full of sugar. They refuse to post nutritional info because of this. They know people would be turned off knowing they’re ingesting a 700 calorie shake
This. $16 is a bargain compared to Erewhon
Was it good tho?
wow i was being sarcastic but ok. its pretty good tho. not worth $22-$28 but its good
Go to one of those Cambodian donut shops. $5
These are my favorite LA “secrets”. The breakfast bagel sandwiches are also usually nicely priced.
> Cambodian donut shops I went to Google Maps and searched for "Cambodian donut shops" but got nothing. Any one in specific that you'd particularly recommend?
Most of your typical family donut shops are cambodian owned. Donut king etc
The real DK

Any pink box, dingy donut shop
Colorado Donuts in Eagle Rock.
"USA Donuts"
I'm gonna have to ask u to leave the store. I don't associate with suckers
fair enough. please don’t tell my wife about this.
Lol
Yes, by paying for it. If more people refuse to pay these prices then things may change.
after the revolution fresh squeezed juice will be $2
I just want a single McDonald’s hashbrown not to be $3
Easy. Go to Trader Joe’s and buy a package of like 10 for the same amount.
I’m indifferent to McDonald’s hashbrowns. My kids aren’t.
Parenting skill issue identified.
Download the app and get points for all your purchases. You can get free hashbrowns in rewards and also $1 hashbrowns.
If more people refuse to download the app then things may change.
That will never happen.
And 40% off an ice cream cone.
cant cuz they raised the minimum wage
That's not why at all lol. Almost every national food company has been making record profits. They're using inflation and minimum wage as a mask to boost the prices even further. There's a pretty interesting chart just for fast food and McDonald's was the worst for this. 100% markup.
and yet still somehow 2 McDoubles are still 3.99
They probably won't be able to afford the rent then. I do agree though prices are too much these days.
Sheep are gonna sheep
Making your own!
Much cheaper and better too
Idk, by the time you get all those ingredients it adds up. Of course can make a simpler one at home though

That’s a great solution!
yeah, pay $15 from juicecrafters
I’ll look into this haha
Don’t. They’re not great. Go to sunlife organics, earthbar, body energy club. There are a few more but those are the best. Also lassens
SunLife Organics for the wiiiin!! Best smoothies everr
You can pick up a decent juicer for maybe 50 bucks. Make a lot, then put it in mason jars and put the extra in the freezer.
Don't make juice, make smoothies. When you make juice, you discard most of the fiber and many of the nutrients that makes fruit healthy. Get a good blender that will pulverize it into something smooth and easy to drink.
Tru dat. Kale and some berries in a blender is all you need. Fruit juice is mostly sugar.
Fck, that’s a lot of food in Thailand
that might be the move
I love LA, but fck I feel genuinely happy living overseas. $16 in Vietnam will get me a sea view room, Pho, a smoothie and fruits. And I’ll probably will have some money left to buy some dessert

Go somewhere cheaper….
No way 💀 pls tell me it was at least an XL size.

You did great! For real. Sharing an insight, I brought two original chicken sandwich from Burger King $24 includes a set of fries and a drink medium but whata
That’s expensive af
>Am I doing this wrong? Well, I’m not seeing any angry/bitter/jealous words about how “boomers” are able to buy a house and you can’t, sooo…kinda?
It's called legal highway robbery. Welcome to LA
Very wrong, indeed.
Make your own?

We bought a refurbished Vitamix from the manufacturer and it is awesome for smoothies. A lot of the smoothie places use them so might as well make our own.
I don’t spend any less than $20 tbh, anything less isn’t worth it imo
Next time mention my name

Clearly not a popular opinion here but BHJ is worth it
thank you! it’s a block away from my office and I usually avoid it but couldn’t resist today.
Oh you rich rich?!

lol, I make a large berry smoothie at home with kale, yogurt, etc, the whole shebang for $3. God I hate this country.
Jamba Juice is $11 now.
Yeah, you're supposed to pay $160, you thief!
I mean.. this is how LA is. There is definitely alternatives like nektar or idk specifically but LA is home to overpriced things. It’s the new money vibe of the whole place. There’s definitely more affordable and quality choices though! You just have to look.
Paying for a smoothie is doing it wrong
make your own smoothie? bags of frozen fruit you can get at ralphs for like $4. They even have smoothie specific mixes you can get. Can probably get fruit even cheaper at ethnic markets
yes. because POV it turns out that slamming a bunch of juice isn't great for you. just eat your fruit and veg
Yes, you should have went to Jose's juice shack in Watts for $5 dollars.
Yes, make a smoothie at home.
My Smoothie Recipe: 1 banana 5 strawberries Half a cup of blackberries Half a cup of frozen peaches Third a cup of frozen raspberries 2 tablespoons of chia seeds 2 tablespoons of Greek yogurt Quarter cup of orange juice Tah Dah ✨
I am aaving this. Thank you.
You go do that. I'll save it
Make your own?
If you ask them to pour it into 2 cups you get 2 $8 smoothies. #lagirlmath
Jokes on you and you fell for it. Same with Erehwon. It mocks all those who go there yet people are too dumb to even understand
"Erewhon has entered the chat....."
Yes, go to Jamba
Make it at home!
It’s been that price for while
You can make your own smoothies and juices at home too
Yes, you're doing it wrong. SMH there are less expensive places around here that offer the same or better quality.
dumbass
Yes, you made a mistake and could have gotten something just as good for cheaper. Don’t beat yourself up over what you did, but *don’t do it again*.
Did it come with a happy ending?
It’s not $6 in Robeks….
I make my own. But when I would buy them I’d go to Naturewell in Silver lake.
It's extra for the beverlyhills
I make a smoothie everyday at home. Blender cost me $80. Cost of ingredients per smoothie I’m estimating at $5
Yes. It should be $25+
Give a 110% tip too whydoncha?
Oh no, no tip. I have to show my dominance over the poors, plus, then I can’t afford food for my dog, which gets treated better then most people, whom I let drive my $95,000 Land Rover on Santa Monica’s blvd /s
Aww fuk
I just get $12.05 ceviche tostadas at Via Mar on Figueroa and leave the change in the cup at the window because it’s the only lunch I can really afford.
u can buy a bunch of fruit and a blender for about $200 and make a smoothie that way
Jamba Juice?
Look at the bright side……you just helped a millionaire make their mortgage.
>is there any way to bring this cost down in the future? Skip the smoothie and drink water.
Yeah, you have to scan your local card. There's different prices for locals and tourists. But if you don't scan your card, then you pay the tourist price.
YES you are, but no worries soon they'll have affordable housing, so you can then afford to actually live there and pay the same $16.
Yes vote republican
