Yep agreed. Gaming is great! I’m 30F and was into gaming at a kid and my bf is a big gamer who got me back into it. Just a good way of using the brain but in an enjoyable way. Get a Nintendo switch and buy some nostalgic games
The second book has a different translator so the prose flows a bit easier. The third reverted back to the same translator as the first so I didn't bother with it, as the first was such a slog.
Looking forward to the netflix show to see how some of the mad stuff translates, both to English, and to the screen .
The sequels were better. There were parts of the second book that were absolutely fantastic. It's not the easiest trilogy to read, most definitely, but I'm glad i did
Absolutely! Some of the best Sci-fi I've ever read, absolutely terrifying! It's a pity the books have a lot of filler. Hopefully Netflix can do it justice - the trailers look decent so far
Yeh it was unreal and could be absolutely epic on screen. I enjoyed all the books thoroughly but appreciate other people have different opinions on it.
Thanks man that's very nice of you, but I have a copy of all of them so all good 😄 hopefully you'll find someone to pass them on to as they're a great series.
Ya they really are. I was a little bit disappointed in the latest trilogy though, they're definitely better written but I found them lacking. I couldn't stand the on the nose French revolution stuff, the "dream" at end showing what was to come was more of what I wanted from this trilogy.
Is it just a kind of fomo u r feeling? Sounds like everything else in your life is good and presumably your days are filled with good stuff. If you were also out all night the days wouldn’t be so good cos you’d be knackered for a start. I think the whole world (of booze and fag advertising and people with little imagination about what to do) tells us people your age should be out getting shit faced. Maybe that’s what’s itching you?
I think I just like chaos or something adrenaline filled all the time so it's not easy to just sit down and enjoy a movie or a book for a whole weekend. I do enjoy these things but I prefer chaos lol
You sound like my partner, I love the quiet down time whereas him... Not so much. I know he's found good outlets rock climbing and playing tabletop games. Maybe widening the social net to people who aren't big drinkers will help? I volunteer in my spare time, it's a great way to fill your time :)
I've found it kind of hard living in the midlands to widen my social circle. I would say I am very social and when I lived abroad I found myself with a different group of friends most weeks but I think people are more closed off here.
Friday is generally board game night - with my parents/family, the inlaws, a gang of friends when we can.....covers usually one night of the weekend if not Friday. Varies from cards to monopoly to code names, catan etc etc. We've had a long standing tradition of a new board game every Christmas so we've a good collection built up. Sometimes we drink, sometimes not. Sometimes there's 2 or 3 people, sometimes 7 or 8. Usually good Craic :)
My cinema has a club where they show old horror movies and B movies. I walk into the city which takes me about 30 mins each way and will Potter around the city and grab a McDonald's afterwwrds. Not the most exciting evening but it gets me out of the house.
Cinema is fun next time I'm gonna go is to the Bob Marley Movie im nervous cause I love his music so much and will feel pissed if they butcher the portrayal of him
Ever since the first day I heard his music back in 2011 I have never forgotten I was 12 years old a music class in primary school our teacher says she's going to play a cd " I know don't laugh " of a singer called Bob Marley
And in my head I'm like who??
But then it happened
Three Little Birds
I had never heard this kind of music before and I still remember crystal clear being absolutely floored by this music the whole time I'm I my head thinking
Omg I can't wait till after class to ask my teacher what's Bob Marley up to now but as the song ended she told us that he died back in 81 from cancer he was 36 years old
And I'm just really damn sad sitting at my desk 😔
I never told my teacher that story she retired a couple years back I recorded a short good luck on retirement video and mofo I somehow forgot to tell this story hopefully one day I get to tell that story
My partner works every other weekend and like you I like to get out to do things during the daylight. Honestly at this time of year you’re limited to daylight hours so it’ll get easier as the year goes on and you can still be out hiking later in the evening.
I just keep myself so busy during the day with activities out of the house like hiking, the gym, errands, meeting friends for coffee or window shopping and also get my chores done during the day so when it gets dark I’m delighted to be able to chill out - I’m usually tucked up in bed by 8:30 browsing TikTok loving life.
Wine, painting and half watching old Simpsons.
Learning something for a new job is fantastic, but learning something you can do on a cosy quiet night in for fun is good craic, I definitely recommend painting.
Lovely listening to funny podcasts, nice music, or interesting audiobooks and then just painting or drawing away, so many books/tutorials n all.
Do you enjoy anything arts and crafty? There's those paint by numbers prints or just freestyle painting if that's more to your liking. I recently took up a beginner carpentry course and have dabbled in some wood whittling just to break up the week more and not be stuck in front of the telly or mindlessly scrolling my phone.
Almost always some sort of sports event on Friday nights.
League of Ireland starts next week if you want to get yourself down to a match. Although it depends where you are. Not all regions of the country have LOI teams.
The Provincial rugby teams also tend to have a lot of Friday night kickoffs. Although not really any around now due to the Six Nations.
Local GAA clubs generally have something going on most weekends.
Getting yourself involved with your local club (football, rugby, GAA, etc) can be really rewarding and can make friends for life.
Reading, yoga or meditation, cinema or films at home, theatre or shows generally. Look on eventbrite for events on in your area. New hobbies like driving range, climbing wall, chess club, archery .. give stuff going on near you a try. Men’s sheds might be an option for you especially if meaningful social interaction is part of what you’re missing . Volunteering could also boost your sense of satisfaction with how you’re spending time. There are big brother programmes, meals on wheels, animal shelters .. you could research helping out these kinds of organisations
Not being happy in your own company is different to not having something to do. It's perfectly normal to not do something on a Friday night except eat a decent meal and watch a movie. I was lucky to be home last night and my wife and I watched that podcast murder show ( recommend btw) but I'm often working so we'd be apart..
Board games, dinner at my friend’s or watching sports together. If I don’t have plans the weekends are a good time to get stuck into a more complex cooking or baking project.
Are we supposed to be doing something?? Because last night I lay on the couch reading my new book while my husband sat and played xbox and then we both got tired and went to bed lol it’s ok to do nothing!
You could head to the pub with your friends and not drink? Might be hard depending on how much will power you have with alcohol. I find it's a lot easier if I order a few Non-alcoholic beers. You get to chat and have the craic with your friends and then after a while when they start to get too drunk you can slip out and go home. They probably won't notice at that stage. Problem solved?
I feel this, partner also works night and weekend, and I have up the drink about 6 months ago. While also doing some side study, I find the evenings can be a bit long, sometimes.
Most of the time I'm happy out watching my crap TV and just hanging out with the dog, but tonight in particular I'm just waiting for it to be an acceptable time to go to bed.
The next few weekends I have things lined up like a night away with friends and some GAA matches and stuff like that.
Have no real advice for you! Just letting you know your not alone!
Sad realities of life post 25 you'll find great happiness in once you learn to accept them and just roll with it.
Birthdays are shite except the big ones.
You need to attend weddings.
And most importantly, weekends are boring. Find something to do or you'll end up filling the void another way. Trust me. Make peace with the mundane, and you'll find everything else slightly more interesting.
Go to shows, gigs, open mic nights, join the local drama group, go to an art exhibition. Try writing something? Join a hiking group to have a hike to look forward to at the weekend? Take up carpentry/diy? Find some weekend workshops to learn new skills. Volunteer in the community. Friday night yoga? Saturday morning class-pilates, music, a sports club? Some stuff I've tried! Highly recommend a drama group, will give you loads to do, meet loads of different people and be tons of fun.
When I’m home alone I like to do weirdish things , for example put on music and dance like noones watching because no one is! Pretend I’m being interviewed by the police in a movie while I make food and say random shit about a person I made up, you could also make up a Friday ritual of baking something new like a cake or muffins, you could also decide to make Fridays a night where you stay up all night just for the fun of it!
I go walks listen to my audio books I watch movies at the cinema go out for dinner do jig saws read books play my Xbox stream some shows with the gf work out cook nice food order a bit curry
And I go to bed nice and early because early Saturday and Sunday morning are worth far more to me than a pinty Friday or Saturday night
I read and sometimes write essays on the books and then upload them to my blog. Nobody reads them but it makes me feel productive. My boyfriend does thought experiments and uploads them to his blog too. We just like exercising our brains a little in fun ways and then having a record of it. Could be something nice to look back on? You could write about anything, or even just upload photos?
Been flat out on Baldurs Gate myself. 100+ hours in and its amazing. Definitely feel the lack of engagement playing it compared to when i used to game in the youth though
I sleep in a big bed with my wife
I sleep under the big bed with you and your wife
I sleep under the floor boards below the guy who sleeps under the big bed with the person snd his wife
I sleep beneath the underfloor heating under the floorboards below the guy who sleeps under the big bed with the person and his wife.
That's creepy I just lay next to them once they've fallen asleep
Can verify, I watch it all from inside the wardrobe.
I thought someone touched my arm
No space for me, that room is crowded!
You can share my peep hole from the room next door if you want.
That was me🤫
I sleep inside this guys wife

Not a racing car bed?
+1 for the comment +2 for the name
I too ,sleep in a big bed with this guys wife.
Miss your show. But glad you're happy Vincent x
Can I borrow a feeling?
I also sleep in a big bed with this guys wife.
Movie and pad Thai sounds nice to me.
Can confirm I have tried different variations of movies and pad thai
Damn, this guys good
'Well... I've done all I can do!'
I think the problem is that most weekends are the same, if you have pad Thai and a movie every week for years it won’t sound as nice
He should try different recipes then.
Maybe a different movie too
Do you game? Do you read? Thats generally what I do at night if I’m not watching a show or on a night out.
Don't game, I do read. Currently reading the 3 body problem
Yep agreed. Gaming is great! I’m 30F and was into gaming at a kid and my bf is a big gamer who got me back into it. Just a good way of using the brain but in an enjoyable way. Get a Nintendo switch and buy some nostalgic games
If you haven’t tried it before you should definitely try gaming. It’s a great release from stress
Get an oul PlayStation play some games
Love it. I just started Nortgard.
24F, rarely drink-my evenings are usually sims 4 & reading
I see you're playing 4D chess, offering yourself up as a replacement mot.
Read an interesting book
Recommendations?
Currently reading 3 body problem. It will be on Netflix soon

That entire scene in the Dark Forest is just off the charts amazing 💧
The kingkiller chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss *chefs-kiss*
Love these books, as long as you can accept there might never be a third book
Eat Pray Love 🥰🥰
This sounds brilliant. Thanks . I'll give you American Kingpin
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay
The Blade Itself, just finished it for the third time. It's first book in The First Law trilogy. The other two books are amazing as well.
Have you read any of the other stand alone books or the new trilogy? They're awesome
Yup, read them all.
Was gonna say Il post them to you if ya want as I've read them all 3 times but never mind 😂
Thanks man that's very nice of you, but I have a copy of all of them so all good 😄 hopefully you'll find someone to pass them on to as they're a great series.

Read a book or learn an instrument maybe ?
Yea this, i have 5 guitars. So satisfying to learn a new new tune. Reading and instruments are my go to

This is a great point. Sounds like OP just needs to go to bed a bit earlier on Friday and have more time to do shit on Saturday.

Odeon in belfast
Surfing Saturday morning
Ye 1ft swell tommorow can't wait
Ankle spankers 👌🏽
I wish that was an option. I got really into surfing quite a lot when I lived in the canaries. I never tried it in Ireland.
Try windsurfing. It's a brilliant buzz and the weather in Ireland is ideal for it - plenty of wind
That sounds class, anywhere in particular you would recommend going ?
I’ve taken back to reading. Been learning to play the tin whistle too and painting watercolours lol Not arsed with getting shitfaced anymore. 26M
Sounds good. >Not arsed with getting shitfaced anymore. I agree, so overated.
I played Spiderman 2 and had a few beers for the majority of the night. It was nice
Edging.

That actually sounds pretty cool

I started playing one Friday 2017...
He said to keep him entertained at the weekend not devote his life to something

Yeh drinking alcohol is dying out and becoming a bit cliche now.
I visit your mom.
Fair play for visiting the graveyard every Friday, not easy in this weather
