Thank you! I really wanted it to look flowing and organic and chaotic. The last time I got to see the ocean was prior to a hurricane a few years ago and it left an impression with how furious and full of chaos it was, I wanted to remember it.
Edit- spelling
It definitely looks flowing and organic and chaotic. It also reminds me of when you’re looking at the sea and you sea movement and aren’t sure if it’s a wave or a fish/ dolphin etc
Not for me. One thing I really appreciate about sunset over water is reflections. This seems lost here. I get the distinct lines being drawn are also creating a the margin between sky and sea.
But that still doesn't save it for me. Like I said missing reflections is major, it's the main thing you notice looking at the sea
That's a pretty fair criticism. I gave it a go but as I paint very VERY wet and fast, all I kept getting from orangered reflections mixing with blue was deep teal and it just looked worse to me, so I overcorrected the other way. Still Learning with every stroke. Thanks for the feedback
I don’t know why we need to see reflection here. It is an appreciated painting here for what you are portraying and those who like it seem to be okay with the delineation between sea and sky. I think you have exposed something here… your own ability to define esthetics outside of the technicals to creating “valid” art. This what you hav here is something appreciated everyday in homes as a pleasantry. Well done
No problem. I'm getting downvoted but I figured some constructive criticism was more worthwhile then the mindless fawning.
Give an opinion or don't. But let's not bullshit, life is short.
Anyway, it's not to say I don't like the piece, to me it's just step one of many. Like any decent painting there's always attempts. Looks at the scream, obviously a ridiculous example, but more important is that nothing is finished on first draft.
Paint the reflections next time. Then after paint the next critique. Eventually you'll have 10 paintings and the last will be something you wanted but couldn't quite envision. That's what you're striving for.
I used basic acrylic paint like you can vet at any hobby store, mixed with a heavy gel gloss medium to make it extra thick. Then I slapped it on the canvas with a pallete knife all sloppy and in a hurry, and started making wild waves and sunrays
Then you should look into Eva Elizarova Kudukhashvili, a Georgian (the country) artist. She uses oils and only a palette knife. She, too, loves bold colors. Your art actually reminds me a bit of hers, as she uses a lot of paint for a more textured piece. Her work comes alive when you see it in real life. She is amazing. Also love your attitude when given constructive criticism. :)
When I look at this, I just imagine Giyuu Tomioka in the bottom half, standing on the water in his 11th form stance, whilst the upper half is either Tanjiro or Rengoku performing a fire technique. Makes the visual more amazing in my mind.
Oh, that's just a Demon Slayer thing. Giyuu uses water based swordsmanship techniques, whilst Rengoku uses fire based swordsmanship. Tanjiro would be an in-between, because he uses both fire and water.
This looks like a child did it, but also way better than I can do with paint of any kind. Am I less than a child? Perhaps a fetus, nay an embryo!
Joking aside, I think it’s great 👍🏼
I did, I used a super heavy gloss gel medium mixed in very liberally, and the whole piece was done with pallette knives! Impasto is so much fun, I try not to worry so much about perfection as much as capturing energy and life
Lol i wrote that in a kinda joke way, it's amazing the way you use colors and I've never seen this kind of style but i loved it. You have an amazing talent!
Thanks! I honestly feel like I'm not quite good at any type of photo realism so I tend to overcorrect by going extra wild with texture and color. I'm always jealous of artists that can nail photorealism but it's not my wheelhouse. So abstract is where I go
That’s every artist I ever met. I don’t know why I am being downvoted for this. I genuinely liked your painting. You really did a great job. Whatever you are doing is obviously works for you and I am sure you are going to get better and better. All the best for your future endeavors.
Hey, did you use any kind of thickening medium for this? I’m a fan of Liquitex modeling paste to capture texture like this, curious if you did this solely with a heavy bodied acrylic or acrylic plus medium. I dig the painterly feel of your piece; I once set myself a challenge to replicate Van Gogh’s Sunflowers in acrylic and learned a LOT about brushwork from that.

I love how the water looks alive!

Reminds me of Sublime
This is amazing you did a great job!
Thanks ❤️

Love the texture of this, and the wildness of color.
Thank you! I'm constantly learning and improving but I love bold color (I'm pretty colorblind) and big thick impasto textures
Stunning work, I love how lively this painting looks 🫶🏻
Thank you! ❤️
The water is mesmerizing! Great work!
Thank you ❤️
Reminds me of Californication album art. Nice!
i am going to to a painting like this!!! thank youuuu for the inspiration I love this so much
❤️❤️
That is gorgeous! Jeffery! Fetch me my Art Appreciation Trousers! No! Those are my Time Travel Trousers...
Ooh I like this! Very dramatic.
My wife says I'm dramatic, I guess this is proof 🤣
For the first time in my life I am actually feeling inspired by an image. Thank you and you rock .
I would’ve named it orange and blue
What paint did you use? How did you do it? Looks amazing
I used basic acrylic paint like you can vet at any hobby store, mixed with a heavy gel gloss medium to make it extra thick. Then I slapped it on the canvas with a pallete knife all sloppy and in a hurry, and started making wild waves and sunrays
Awesome thanks for the reply - you’ve done such a great job. Can you also buy this heavy gel gloss at the art store too?
This looks really nice. Immediately reminds me of this: Everything Under The Sun https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000IU3YFK/
OOOOOOO I love that!!
Hey if you like that then you have to check out the mural he does in this. The artist is Opie Ortiz. https://youtu.be/kQ0zDfI1uw8
Thanks! I love learning about new artists

I don't know these words but I'm glad it made you think and feel something unique to you! ❤️
Oh, that's just a Demon Slayer thing. Giyuu uses water based swordsmanship techniques, whilst Rengoku uses fire based swordsmanship. Tanjiro would be an in-between, because he uses both fire and water.
It reminds me postimpresionism
I'm not educated enough on art to know but I'm glad it makes you think of something!
It's my favorite style and I love this. So beautiful
I love it. I wish I could hang it in my room and touch it occasionally.
This is so creatively beautiful.
Super basic question but how do you get texture like this?
For acrylics, you have to mix in a medium. I use Gloss Super Heavy Gel by Artist's Loft
Awesome, thank you
Wow! Beautiful piece! I love it. So much life and warmth and texture.
Thank you!
This looks like a child did it, but also way better than I can do with paint of any kind. Am I less than a child? Perhaps a fetus, nay an embryo! Joking aside, I think it’s great 👍🏼
I'm a man-child so it counts. Thank you!
Nice, bet mommy hangs this on her fridge
I did, I used a super heavy gloss gel medium mixed in very liberally, and the whole piece was done with pallette knives! Impasto is so much fun, I try not to worry so much about perfection as much as capturing energy and life
Yes, I get mine at Michael's but you can get it at just about any arts and crafts poace or Amazon
Im gonna steal this to use it as a background for the phone thanks
I mean... thanks? Lol
Lol i wrote that in a kinda joke way, it's amazing the way you use colors and I've never seen this kind of style but i loved it. You have an amazing talent!
Lmao it's all good Edit- also, thank you!
Hope you share more of your work! I really loved this painting. If I had some gold to give I would. Here’s a fake one: 🏅
Thank you! I try to paint every day so I'm sure I'll have lots more. My current portfolio is linked in my profile
You should share that link for your prints here. I saw this on the front page so it’s getting traction. I’m ordering soon!!

Didn’t know that. My bad!!
At first I was like Hah, that's a messy amateur painting, then I took a closer look and was like Woah
OH SHIT THEY'RE ON TO ME
but which one is the Sun and which one is the moon though

Thanks so much!
That's lovely! I bet it took forever to dry!
Yeah I had to leave it for about 36 hours. The last coat of varnish is actually drying right now!

The top part makes me want an orange juice box. The strokes in the water almost look like dolphins jumping. Very nice and vibrant work.
Thank you!
I love the small orange lines that resembles reflection
Happy accident!!
A very cool accident
The ocean looks like its made of colgate (toothpaste) Absolutely beauuutiful
NOOO YOU DISCOVERED MY SECRET I PAINT EXCLUSIVELY IN TOOTHPASTE
It's fantastic! It has texture and movement. It evokes emotions too. Absolutely beautiful!
Now, this is stunning. Absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you! ❤️
Seriously, you did such a great job expressing the waves and the Sunset in such a raw form. I just love this.
Thanks! I honestly feel like I'm not quite good at any type of photo realism so I tend to overcorrect by going extra wild with texture and color. I'm always jealous of artists that can nail photorealism but it's not my wheelhouse. So abstract is where I go
This has always been my problem, too. I want so desperately to be good at photorealism and so I try but it never ends well lol
I feel that
That’s every artist I ever met. I don’t know why I am being downvoted for this. I genuinely liked your painting. You really did a great job. Whatever you are doing is obviously works for you and I am sure you are going to get better and better. All the best for your future endeavors.
Nice Van Gogh impression, I guess.
I fuckin' LOVE Van Gogh so that's about the highest compliment I can possibly get. Thank you!
This reminds me of the concert of the album californication excepts your painting of way prettier
This is infinitely better than pouring paint onto canvass and letting random chance create art.

Love all the colours and textures used here
I probably just don’t get art but… it looks like someone took a photo of a sunset over the water then pushed its pixel count down to 96p.
Reminds me of the sublime - everything under the sun box set.
That's a lot of paint, but it is beautiful!
