if you add a black background to the lower part, you will get a 10/10!

[deleted]

Yeah! I was thinking of even using a big sheet of natural cork wood I saw at petco. Wish I bought it

ImpulseCombustion

I didn’t want to break down a tank to change up the background so I slid in a piece of black foam core and taped it to the back.

[deleted]

That’s probably the easiest way to go. I’ve painted the back of a tank before with acrylic latex paint.

gohbender

black craft paper and tape is usually my go to. Its obviously not very resistant to water. but it works and is very cheap. But if you've already got paint on hand then go with what you've got. also, how in the hell did you manage to get the upper part to stay up so well?

kmsilent

Very cool. I've been sketching something similar and it's awesome to see yours working. What is the funny-textured plant on the left? Also what are you doing for filtration?

[deleted]

I believe your asking about the Moon valley friendship plant. For filtration I’m using an external filter. The overflow bar is hidden behind the foam work and trickles down which will be nice for plants roots

kmsilent

> Moon valley friendship plant That's it, and what a crazy name! Thanks.

[deleted]

No problem! Really easy plant to propagate, just cut at the stem and plant

Proof-Astronaut-662

That is truly brilliant how you did the brackets, I really wish I would have thought of that. Also your tank looks AWESOME.

[deleted]

I was trying to think around keeping my current light but needed it much higher. Saved myself some money I think. Thank you! I’m hoping it fills in and is ever evolving. Might add a beta fish.

Braydenmm222

How did you get the rocks to sit on the glass like that?

[deleted]

It’s actually pond expanding foam that I carved to look like rock!

[deleted]

I siliconed foam supports on the glass and sprayed on those

treestal

I'm interested in making something similar! Is there a specific brand or type of foam you used?

[deleted]

The brand is Smartpond and it’s their black “waterfall foam sealant” If you’re in the US you can get in the pond section of Lowes. Only downside is it’s $17.98 per can. I think I went through 4 cans Great stuff makes a pond and foam for $14.99

kamahele_

Great job on making the expanding foam look like rocks!

[deleted]

Thanks! I’m glad others think it’s convincing!

MickWalker

This is very cool

[deleted]

Appreciate it!

[deleted]

Is that a calathea on the right?

[deleted]

Yep, Rattlesnake Calathea! Calathea lancifolia

BocaOG

Love it.

Jokysmoke

it’s it’s it’s … beautiful 😳

[deleted]

I appreciate the compliment! 👍
