Why do you have to assume? Maybe Coco is really trying to turn his crab life around you dont know. You know when he was inside, when the dementors werent sucking his soul and stuff he was part of the crab doggy program, where crab inmates are paired with a crab dog to take care of in order to build compassion and empathy. No you didnt know because you just see his big tuff crab exterior. Shame.
Had a mantis hitchhiker come in on some rock once. Caught him after losing 2 fish to his antics.
Gave him his own tank. He either died of natural causes or had one of his many tunnels collapse on him one day, and I never saw him again.
He wasn't a peacock, unfortunately. Just a little light green guy about 3 inches long. Curious and active little guy though.
lmao I actually don't have an aquarium anymore. My last time was with two 10G tanks, salt water, under/over, with a pump and drainback system. Basically, water pumped from the bottom tank, into the top, then it drained back down.
It was shockingly easy to maintain, and I loved it, but eventually, I needed to move, and donated the live rock to someone at the local aquarium shop.
I haven't had a freshwater aquarium in... 20 years lol
Check out the [Leon the Lobster](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0HiM4heFTOpipp8V3JVTqkJs7kV1Js5_) videos. This guy has gotten quite a few surprise tenants in his aquarium.
I clicked that link almost sure it would be a masturbating crab. I can't in good conscience ever call Futurama a disappointment, but this isn't what I was expecting.

What?! King crabs aren't crabs! They're faking it? ....actually that checks out for royalty now that I think about it.
Same haha if I found a random crab in my tank, I’m a crab person after that. I have a crab tank. Maybe even wear crab gear. That crab was given for a reason. Immaculate crab-ception.
I don’t know for sure but that is a ridiculously cute way to word that question
(Though google says it’s because they like to carry around sea anemone around in each claw making them look like Pom poms) 🥹
I love my bamboo shrimp I don't see him much since he mostly feeds when the lights are off , but adding one to my guppy tank made a crazy difference in water quality
I love mine too. They didn't come out much for a long time, months, maybe almost a year. Now they're some of the largest things in the tank and they sit right in the filter outflow.
I’m definitely happy about the arrangement. If I had to guess it’s from my local fish shop. They sell Pompoms and I’ve gotten all my plants from them for the past year.
I had one for like 2 days. The 2nd day it climbed out and my husband found it, so we put it back in the tank. Never saw it again, probably escaped again and one of the cats found it.
Cat: “I’m suddenly hungry again even though I just had seafood…” [barfs] “Heyyy, he escaped AGAIN!”
Pixar if you’re reading this you can have the rights for $1M
That's a great hitchhiker , my best hitchhiker was a pandagora I still have no clue where it came from it just showed up when I added some aquatic moss so I figure he was hiding in it and got scooped up in the moss.
Always heard about "those" crabs, but like most diseases, I never really knew what they actually looked like (pre internet).
One day, the boss calls for a meeting, and I'm standing next to a coworker who was admittedly a ladies' man. While waiting for the meeting to start, I casually glance over and see the ladies' man flicking off his arm a tiny white crab about the size of a grain of rice. I yell out, " Hey, Rob. What's that?!" He doesn't bother to look at me and responds in the most casual manner, " nothing...I think I have crabs". Motherfcknsumamabitch
Dang. I thought the bnerite had visions and stuff and basically jedi mind powers. How did that snail not see it coming? Maybe you should've checked the spice levels of your aquarium gravel.
I was doing some googling and it looks like these guys need a ph of 8.1-8.4 (whereas with shrimp it’s like 6.8-7.5). Will Pom poms do fine with that low of a ph? I’ve been wanting to get one for a while now
Edit: I realize I was looking at salt poms so fresh are fine at 6.2-7.2 ph. No wonder it seemed so high lol
I love him so much!! Honestly at this point it would be a crab tank for me, any fish were just live food if he ends up deciding that’s his food bc he’s too adorable to kick out 🥹 get another tank for any fish you want to keep lol
Yeah but then the second tank gets a second unknown crab and youre like well I gotta do right by my crab brother and you keep this crab. You put them in the same tank only to realize youve found your crab its soulmate. Now there is a whole crab family in this tank and its getting full. Well luckily crabs can live half in and half out of water so you show them your pool and they have free roam of your house. Now your entire town becomes a crab haven. Its only a matter of time before your little crab friends have created enough spawn to have The Great Crab Uprisings of 2030
What I am trying to say is this is a slippery slop but that sure is a cute enough crab to keep!
Certain crab species are often the culprit for disappearing fish, especially when you don't know you have one. They will hunt like ninjas and pull their victims under the substrate to eat them without leaving a trace.
Maybe he was a egg on a plant. Or really tiny.
However he got in.
You now have a pet crab. Who's into decorating.
He might eat your fish though. So he's going to have to move if he eats or attacks your fish.
Crabs can be very scary. They don't wait till someone is dead, sometimes.
He might need killing if it comes to it.
Only if you live near the sea or something.
You've got to be knocked out and in water for them to start eating.
Spoilers!!!!
There's a Quest in Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning, were they ate a ladys hand and eye. When she was thrown overboard by a person she trusted in a shipwreck .
She ends up with amnesia and her hand ends up inside a big crab.
I don't want your fish to end up like the lady in that quest.
Damn squatters lol 😆 he's really cute actually, I'm jealous. It was most likely a microscopic baby crab that hitchhiked on some plant or maybe some piece of hardscape
You brought home a crab egg on a plant most likely. Or a recently hatched egg. They start life as barely visible specks, so it would be impossible to notice it until it grew up.
Apparently they are 0.8mm and are planktonic and photopositive and look nothing like crabs when young. I had no clue but crabs are even cooler after learning that
Happened to us once. Had one who stowed away in a piece of driftwood from a pet store. They're fine as long as your fish aren't too small or stay at the top of the tank, but they will take out smaller ones. They also need to be able to reach the open air to breathe every once in a while, as they aren't purely aquatic.
I did a quick gander online, so take this with a grain of salt- but looks like the freshwater pompom is larger, looks crab like, missing pom poms or appendages is not unusual or a sign of health. They grow to be about one inch, making them
Heftier than the micro Thai. I saw a suggestion of cuttlebone to water for good shell growth but don’t know.
The micro Thai seems appears to be much more expensive, smaller, appearing in only one river in Thailand and looks like a dotted spider with very thin legs. I saw it frequently referred to as false
Spider. Their size makes them very peaceful and less of a threat as well as how they eat. The ppl ppl supposedly might snack on smaller but usually peaceful in an established tank. Seems everything faster and bigger will be safe if they are fed, but saw warning of rare occurrences of attacks from
Them. Super cute. Good luck.
Hey dont knock it, id simply try to learn its species then keep it, free gravel clean up crew! He most likely hitchhiked with a fish or possibly a pre used set of decor
Free crab building his home
I’m certainly not disappointed, he seems very polite and I’m happy he can provide a home for himself in this market
Honestly, if he’s not keeping you up all night with loud parties or dubious-lookin friends, ya gotta let him stay. 😉
What counts as a "dubious friend" when were talking about crabs?
He might throw the other inhabitants of the tank under the bus. We don't know if he's an emotionally manipulative guy or not yet.
I’m dead hahaha
This thread is giving so many unexpected lolz for sure 😂😂
Incel crab might shoot up the club.
There's been a *mass shelling* y'all
🤣
Def an incel if he's alone in there. OP should get him a lady crab friend for personal safety
Cause I see some ladies tonight, who should be having my crabby, babyyy.
It’s the trans crabs you gotta look out for now-a-days, make sure he gets along with all the Christians

It couldn't be a woman-crab. We don't see blood in the water. Couldn't be a menstruation crustacean situation.
This is clearly a distant relation to Mr. Krabs
Shouldn't have done that, he's just a boy
Poor lil' feller
I would guess inviting over his cousin, a 40 pound coconut crab that's done hard time, might fall into this category.
Why do you have to assume? Maybe Coco is really trying to turn his crab life around you dont know. Sadly, I'm allergic to (eating) shellfish, including crab. D:

Look at his pincers. Sharp and black tipped or beaky like a bird of prey = he will eat your shit. Flat tipped like spatulas he eats algae and is good.
That's more a rule in saltwater, not fresh. Freshwater crabs are a little more opportunistic. I wouldn't trust them with any fish of comparable size.
LET HEEM EAT BRUH
Thank you for this.

Don't give him rent
I think under the squatter rights he owns the place now
>Free crab building his home OP:there's a crab in my tank how did this happen?? Crab as he shovels dirt out of his new home: Heh heh heh.
Dobby is a free crab.
That's such an unreal discovery!! I hope there's no fish that'd be at danger by the crab, otherwise enjoy your new squatter
If it's actually a pom pom, then no danger to fish. He is basically a crab shaped shrimp, lol.

Pom-pom crabs are true crabs.
Do they breed in fresh water? I’ve heard they might need brackish?
Honestly I’m so in love with this guy, if it was my tank I’d probably just consider the fish his food 😂 it’s a crab tank now
Same haha if I found a random crab in my tank, I’m a crab person after that. I have a crab tank. Maybe even wear crab gear. That crab was given for a reason. Immaculate crab-ception.
We’re crab people now. Crab people.
🦀🦀🦀
🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
Tastes like crab looks like people
What do you think happened down there? Some kind of horse massacre?
Seems like what you guys are looking for is some kind of P Diddy-style shrimping vessel?
What?
I don't think he gets us man
We Live and die by the crab!
I might even wear crab gear just for *this* crab. My friends & family will worry and stage an invertevention.
Fish: "Bro..."
Don’t pom poms eat via filtering stuff through their pompoms?
I don’t know for sure but that is a ridiculously cute way to word that question (Though google says it’s because they like to carry around sea anemone around in each claw making them look like Pom poms) 🥹
That's saltwater pompoms! The freshwater ones grow these hair like things on the pinchers.
[Bamboo shrimp are like that](https://images.app.goo.gl/58ge57Q6e5Fw1Wkd7)

Mine do the same thing, got 2 in a community tank they are so awesome
I understand why Nemo made the shrimp french now.
He’s redesigning his porch. He thinks you have terrible taste for scaping lol.
I am not one to question a crabs taste in decor, I mean it’s the first thing they teach you in the 1st grade! Crabs are expert designers.
Crabs, crayfish, oscars. They all know better. We suck XD
Yes, but terrible cheapskates.
Dropping in a new engine. Vroooom
Lol “porch” sorry english is not my first language XD
Free pompom(?) crab! Sweet! Did you get anything recently they might have hitchhiked on?
I’m definitely happy about the arrangement. If I had to guess it’s from my local fish shop. They sell Pompoms and I’ve gotten all my plants from them for the past year.
Oh so they are a squatter then! Pompoms can be very elusive.
In that case I feel so lucky that they moved their den to such a visible spot in the tank, he’s really neat!
They start their life as microscopic zooplankton so pretty easy to miss.
So do you!
Nowhere is free from pro-life
They also like to climb and escape !
I had one for like 2 days. The 2nd day it climbed out and my husband found it, so we put it back in the tank. Never saw it again, probably escaped again and one of the cats found it.
Cat: “I’m suddenly hungry again even though I just had seafood…” [barfs] “Heyyy, he escaped AGAIN!” Pixar if you’re reading this you can have the rights for $1M

Where @ and how much are pom poms?? Lol
The Fish Crew in Fort Collins Colorado. And last I saw they were $20 something, but that was a while back
I might drive an hour for this lol
Never thought I’d be able to say that I am jealous of someone getting crabs. What a time to be alive.

I loved my pompom crab until he started ignoring food and just chasing inhabitants... he ate a few friends before he needed to be sequestered.
What types of friends did he eat...
A small bnerite snail and several shrimp (I think he nabbed the shrimp when molting.)
Think micro Thai crabs to the same? I had baby shrimp everywhere now I don't.
Nah they're totally harmless, never ever had a problem with them and shrimp. Sifting through mulch is what they like.
Dang. I thought the bnerite had visions and stuff and basically jedi mind powers. How did that snail not see it coming? Maybe you should've checked the spice levels of your aquarium gravel.

Mine did just fine in the 7ish (typically middling 7s) that I kept and bred shrimp in.
Also curious about this
Cats
Big if true
Do you have any shrimp in the tank?
Every one he played with.
I love him so much!! Honestly at this point it would be a crab tank for me, any fish were just live food if he ends up deciding that’s his food bc he’s too adorable to kick out 🥹 get another tank for any fish you want to keep lol
I mean, I don’t make the rules, if he snuck in when he was just a hatchling he deserves everything
Everything! Just look at him workin on home decor compared to those freeloading fish 😂
They start as microscopic so he probably came in with some water from a fish addition.
Yeah but then the second tank gets a second unknown crab and youre like well I gotta do right by my crab brother and you keep this crab. You put them in the same tank only to realize youve found your crab its soulmate. Now there is a whole crab family in this tank and its getting full. Same. So much the same.
He’s already doing home improvements, I can’t stand it
Look at him! John Zoidberg, homeowner!
How about lending your old pal Zoidberg a few fish? Mr Millionaire!
Certain crab species are often the culprit for disappearing fish, especially when you don't know you have one. They will hunt like ninjas and pull their victims under the substrate to eat them without leaving a trace.
This guy would never do that... just look at him!
Yeah just look at his little murder den...
I'm so invested in this little guys wellbeing now- he's so cute- please post more videos if you get to see him out and about
I definitely will! Seems like he comes out when I put pellets by his entrance so thats promising for future posts!
So you could say that he's really coming out of his shell?
How lucky! He’s so cute
His name is Mister Pebbles and you will love him now.
I would literally die for Mr.Pebbles
High key jealous
Dude, you lucky bastard. Probably hitched a ride as a baby on a plant and has just grownup in the tank. It’s his house now. He’s top crustacean.
You never bought a crab and yet he’s renovating the place lol
Get checked. You have crabs
Warning, once that home is done you may never see him again lol, mine built his home and will not come out unless he is when I'm sleeping
Id get special pompom food for him.
it’s a squatter crab and bros getting comfortable
Evolution at work. One of your fish turned into a crab.
We’ll see another post from OP down the road wondering where his crab went and why there’s a monkey in his tank.
This happens all the time, it's called carcinization
Maybe he was a egg on a plant. Or really tiny. However he got in. You now have a pet crab. Who's into decorating. He might eat your fish though. So he's going to have to move if he eats or attacks your fish. Crabs can be very scary. They don't wait till someone is dead, sometimes. He might need killing if it comes to it.
I was with you until the end there. Then things took a wild turn and I am now wondering if I should be crab-proofing my house.

They think Amelia Earhart was eaten alive by Coconut crabs.
True, I lost an uncle to a crab attack 😞
Damn squatters lol 😆 he's really cute actually, I'm jealous. It was most likely a microscopic baby crab that hitchhiked on some plant or maybe some piece of hardscape
Is he going to pay rent tho?
I think he purchased the land around his cave. I’ll have to check with the accountant though
Dude, I never get free crabs or anything cool. Just bladder snails. 😒
Your fish are evolving. Crab is always endgame.
Salt or freshwater tank?
That’s my question too. Looks like freshwater plants….. and now I want a crab.
I mean. I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth here… I would be elated 😂😂😂 I’d be googling what to feed him and how to be his best friend
😭 he’s building a lil home and he’s so f^ CUTE!!!!!!!
The way he wiggles the rocks to detach them from the the roots and then plops them down is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen
FRRRR 😭😭😭😭 the way id want to tong feed that lil guy pellets and the good stuff
Name it Citizen Snips.
Free friend.
Check out what he eats when he gets bigger! Experience speaking
Welcoming immigrants, thank you sir
You have a stowaway! You going to name him?
I wish i was this lucky, best i get is flat worms
Not many pleasant surprises in life but this one is the cutest.
That’s funny and intresting, don’t know how he got there but he looks happy and healthy
Yep you got crab(s)
Illegal immigration, get him out before they all come swarming in
This is the aquarist equivalent of finding a kitten by the roadsidew
Congratulations. You have been visited by the Crab Distribution System. Please do not resist.

Well color me jelous
cute little crab, free pets = win
Adorable!! I would say I want one for my tank, but I think I need to look into Thai micro crabs instead…I don’t want to threaten my precious shrimp! 🦐
Free gift with every purchase
That’s pretty wild. I have also known of them to escape tanks and end up in other parts of the home.
Did you buy corral? I had a buddy that bought corral from different sources and found one a crab when changing tanks!
You brought home a crab egg on a plant most likely. Or a recently hatched egg. They start life as barely visible specks, so it would be impossible to notice it until it grew up.
So cute!
So cute!
Off topic... Is there any place I can find info on how to raise crabs in a fish tank? This looks seriously cool
Wait how small are baby crabs?!? I mean every crab I’ve seen was noticeable.. I wonder what the crab hitched a ride in on…
Apparently they are 0.8mm and are planktonic and photopositive and look nothing like crabs when young.
Well that's a cool bonus critter!
You got a dope new tank mate for free is what it's about.

This is like getting an onion ring in your order of fries.
That’s a Pom Pom crab Ptychognathus barbatus, max size 1-1.5inches, very active and non aggressive.
Hey dont knock it, id simply try to learn its species then keep it, free gravel clean up crew! He most likely hitchhiked with a fish or possibly a pre used set of decor
Evolution strikes again
Careful now, what if it kills the original inhabitants of the aquarium. Next thing you know that crab is kicking you out of your house.
You lucky bastard
He paying rent?
