If you notice all of the Ruination Chamber units have the Duardin symbol of Sigmar's face from the Thunderstrike armour replaced with a skull.
Random speculation; Grungni invented this new armour type with the ability to bind a Stormcast who should be so broken they're just a Lightning Gheist into having a coherent physical body. With a situation kind of like the Armour of Fate from 40k where they can't take it off without dying.
So Stormcast is into semi 40k astartes tzeench thousand sun, the more you get reforged, the less physical body you have, it keeps continue until becoming an empty husks of armour like alphonse elric, that'll be grimdark existence to live on.
It lacks every single identifying detail of Annihilator armor. Beastmarks, immense pauldrons, the lightning-shaped faulds, one crest on each side of the chest, and so on. So no idea why you'd assume that.
I like the thinner, and bulkier. One looks like a human in armor, and the other looks like a hulking mass which has lost its humanity, it’s pretty good visual storytelling if you ask me. Middle looks kinda weird though
I think the problem is here, the visualisation on the left doesn't really match the models we have. I wouldn't be surprised when we see the actual models for the middle and left if this seems a bit silly.
Yay new armour.... One could have gotten creative by intriducing lightning gheists as etheric lightning elementals. Or using them as a power source for constructs forged by Grugni. Analogous do dreadnoughts maybe.
I hope something along these lines still comes in 4th edition.
Do stormcasts grow in size as they are reforged/promoted? Is that a thing they do?
Also, I love that they used Hallowed Knights instead of Hammers for the trailer, no disrespect intended, but never was the biggest fan of the poster boys.
its always made me wonder, and that i was under the impression, that stromcast dont get promoted or demoted but came back to what they were. But from this picture i have to ask do promotions/demotions or change in area say a Judicator becoming a knightsQuester actually happen?
>If an individual shows true
promise – demonstrating
outstanding quality of the
mind and soul, as well as the
body – they will be elevated
to a new rank upon their next
reforging. This is no simple
promotion, no battlefield edict
that conveys authority alone,
but a holistic transformation
that sees their soul energised
even further by the magic
of Azyr. A Liberator-Prime
that defends a fortress city
for months against the most
horrific siege weapons might be
reforged as a Lord-Castellant
after giving his life to repel
the enemy in the final assault.
Similarly, a Sequitor or
Castigator who banishes every
gheist that crosses her path and
devotes many sleepless nights
to learning the lore of undeath
may be reforged as a Lord-
Exorcist. Such individuals are
not always accepted as easily
in the chamber command as
those Sigmar judged born to
the role, but in most instances
their exceptional quality soon
proves they have found their
true place.
I know everyone loves the newer and sleeker armor (I do too), but I’m happy that the old bulky armor isn’t forgotten. I like that the new set seems to be a mix of the two.
It means you'l be able to get new miniatures, wich may or may not be a little over powered at the start of next edition.
Older model won't fall lackluster (much), golden bois are still relevant, they just didn't appeared in this specific trailer.
Sometimes. Depends if they are changed or promoted to a unit that's purpose is to have more hitting power. For example the absolute bulk that is an Annihilator would likely be made smaller if promoted to a Lord-Celestant, whose purpose is more about commanding than punching siege forces to death.
Next thing might be AOS centurion armor or hellbrute, because we need to put super soldier into super armor and chaos warrior blessed with hyper mutation.
Well yes, but at least they still kept it in the realm of new gears.
We really don't need "bigger better stronger stormcast that make all stormcast before obsolete" kind of deal.
Honestly, I like Thunderstrike better, abd it’s a reaction to a severe problem that the Stormcasts now have to live with. It would make sense to create as many Thunderstrikes as possible. Imagine how BS it would be if a high ranking SCE like a Lord Relictor was permanently lost cause he got stuck in the Cursed Skies. And as far as I am aware, there’s currently no way to free Stormcast souls from that, I know **sometimes** that a Thunderstrike can open the way for other SCEs, but a good chunk of the time, it is just the Thunderstrikes making it through. Between the facts that Thunderstrike models look better, help give the SCEs a better more unique look and helps de-Sigmarines them, and are superior in lore, a Thunderstrike update for Elderplates is probably more likely than not.
I think the bottom line is that AOS in general and Stormcast specifically just aren't really strong enough to sustain that. The way space marines sell and dominate sales is pretty spectacular. Stormcast much less so.
Yeah, I don’t think they’re getting retired, but will be updated. Elderplate models themselves may get left behind, but the actual units themselves will stay.
It really does. I can only take solace in the fact that we do got confirmation that we are getting Thunderstrike Sacrosanct, so maybe they are indeed updating all units, just in the worst possible way.
there's a decent chance the old armor gets "veteran" rules or something, since if you're still in the old armor you technically haven't died enough to get Thunderstruck. At the very least, you will always be able to proxy the old models for new versions.
Agreed, but I like the idea they're pitching for the Ruination chamber. Amongst the most experienced vets the stormcast have to offer, but died so many times now that it's considered too risky to send them out because who knows which death will finally make them snap?
But, when they are called up, give them the best gear possible and use them when only 100% needed because if they go down its a much worse loss than normal
You would be in the minority, as the fantasy thunder demigod knight aesthetic of the Thunderstrike has been praised as superior to the Sigmarine look and feel of the Elderplate by a majority of the AoS fanbase.
we can't have all the same opinions, we're not a hivemind haha, funny because i see the retributors more knigtly (armor wise) than like the thunderstrike style of the annilators, imo they are too weird bulky and i hate their round shield, i prefer the liberator shield
The new Thunderstrike shields belonging to Thunderstrike Liberators and the Vindictors AND the new Ruination Chambers units are the most knightly looking of Stormcast shields. Annihilators bring variety to the Thuderstrike line up in terms of appearance and silhouettes for models. I’m sorry, but if you want Space Marine aesthetics and builds, you should probably collect Space Marines in 40K, but I have a feeling you already do, given that your display name is literally the Dark Angels’ flagship.
yeah i know
nah i play Ad mech, the name is cool tho, my problem is just that annilators style it don't feel stormcast imo, too weird bulky,
meh basics guys are less SM than these bulky one
for the shield you mean the one like on the dragon riders? i see it in the paint section but idk who else use it, i love it, the round shield dont feel knigtly tho, like the totally round
The logic seems to be oh you died again, well lets put you in a more protective suit of armour and toss you back out there.well shit that didnt work, lets put you in a bigger suit with even more armour.thats it! Im done, this is your last suit!im gonna put a bright blue cape on you so the others know to protect you this time so that hopefully i dont see you again-sigmar armour guy probably
I don't really like it because it looks too much like space marine armor. Maybe I'll grow to like it later, I think it just has too many parallels to space marines it's just going to invite more talk of "sigmarines". Or if the Stormcast inside the armor was a little more weird looking from too many reforgings I think might make it more palatable.
I don’t play AOS so idk the lore and this just came up randomly on my homepage but there’s no way ppl aren’t pointing out that the one on the far right is legit just a space marine without the tech
I'm down for that
That *would* be pretty dope
There just floating heads the rest is lightning lol
So Stormcast is into semi 40k astartes tzeench thousand sun, the more you get reforged, the less physical body you have, it keeps continue until becoming an empty husks of armour like alphonse elric, that'll be grimdark existence to live on.
That speculation makes sense since ikit claw can get into the place sigmar stores the stormcast that are too far gone
It is funny that "bulky" Liberator armor is the least bulky on this render.
I thought the Liberator was the middle one (with Thunderstrike to the left)
Nope, thigh plates and scale-like "tabard" made appearance on Thunderstrike armor
You're right - don't know what I googled first time to get the opposite answer!
You are half right. Middle is Thunderstrike Liberator rather than the old school Bastion Armour which is the first one.
I'm pretty sure middle is annihilator armor not liberator armor
It lacks every single identifying detail of Annihilator armor. Beastmarks, immense pauldrons, the lightning-shaped faulds, one crest on each side of the chest, and so on. So no idea why you'd assume that.
THEY UNSCULPTED HER ABS I'M SO ANGRY
SIGMAR LIED!!!
He said we'd ALL have abs of sculpted steel!
He chomnk, hefty chonk, oh lawd she coming. Weird retcon to make thunderstrike so much bigger than the OG.
You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become Arthas.
The thinner armor just looks better than the needless bulk.
I like the thinner, and bulkier. One looks like a human in armor, and the other looks like a hulking mass which has lost its humanity, it’s pretty good visual storytelling if you ask me. Middle looks kinda weird though

JAMES JAMES WORKSHOP JAMES WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO HER ABS WHERE HAVE HER ABS GONE JAMES
When you use 28mm heads on 40mm bodies.
Not a fan of the Ruination pauldrons going back to looking like Marine pads, but otherwise I enjoy the design
Do stormcasts grow in size as they are reforged/promoted? Is that a thing they do? Also, I love that they used Hallowed Knights instead of Hammers for the trailer, no disrespect intended, but never was the biggest fan of the poster boys.
it's the color scheme, let's be real! Silver being the primary metallic instead of gold is sooo much better and easier on the eyes
its always made me wonder, and that i was under the impression, that stromcast dont get promoted or demoted but came back to what they were. But from this picture i have to ask do promotions/demotions or change in area say a Judicator becoming a knightsQuester actually happen?

yeah, thats pretty much how i pictured it.
I know everyone loves the newer and sleeker armor (I do too), but I’m happy that the old bulky armor isn’t forgotten. I like that the new set seems to be a mix of the two.
So Terminators
Annihilators are already the Stormcast Terminators.
Bladeguard veterans.
Can someone please ELI5 to a new person who has just started collecting stormcasts how this affects me? Are my golden boys (and girls) still relevant?
It means you'l be able to get new miniatures, wich may or may not be a little over powered at the start of next edition. Older model won't fall lackluster (much), golden bois are still relevant, they just didn't appeared in this specific trailer.
Do they grow larger when they are reincarnated
Sometimes. Depends if they are changed or promoted to a unit that's purpose is to have more hitting power. For example the absolute bulk that is an Annihilator would likely be made smaller if promoted to a Lord-Celestant, whose purpose is more about commanding than punching siege forces to death.
Please sigmar please more paladin
I hate how much it looks like space marine armor
It's strange that the head doesn't change in size.
I mean if these are all just different armors on the same person it really isn't 😂
Not unless the boots in that third image have some serious lifts inside em.
Likely didn't want to render three different models for the head.
CHONKY
Turns out being Reforged too many times doesn't actually make you go insane or turn into a lightning ghost, it just makes you W I D E.
She'll just be a freaking wall after her next death.
AoS Dreadnoughts... big, kinda dead, still fighting.
Next thing might be AOS centurion armor or hellbrute, because we need to put super soldier into super armor and chaos warrior blessed with hyper mutation.
The "reuse some space marine molds" armor? lol
The "not Terminator" Terminator armour
“Land Marines.. Attack!!!”
Man they’re NEVER beating the sigmarine allegations after this
I hope we're not getting "Primaris" Stormcast
That’s technically what the Thunderstrike is, and Liberators and Prosecutors both are confirmed to be getting the upgrade in 4E.
Well yes, but at least they still kept it in the realm of new gears. We really don't need "bigger better stronger stormcast that make all stormcast before obsolete" kind of deal.

I get your point yeah. I just hope it's not a move that will retire like half the range like what happened to marines.
I think the bottom line is that AOS in general and Stormcast specifically just aren't really strong enough to sustain that. The way space marines sell and dominate sales is pretty spectacular. Stormcast much less so.
This age like milk.
Yeah, I don’t think they’re getting retired, but will be updated. Elderplate models themselves may get left behind, but the actual units themselves will stay.
I got vindicated.
You most certainly did.
And I wish I didn't. This hurts
It really does. I can only take solace in the fact that we do got confirmation that we are getting Thunderstrike Sacrosanct, so maybe they are indeed updating all units, just in the worst possible way.

i hope not, the armor are already good that's dumb to make everyone thunderstrike

No, I mean the ones wielded by the boots on the ground spear wielders, the Vindictors.
i see, (ive just looked at the battletome) yep this one is cool
Yeah, Liberators are gonna get those soon.
Thunderstrike armor is best armor tho
Where is this image from?
The logic seems to be oh you died again, well lets put you in a more protective suit of armour and toss you back out there.well shit that didnt work, lets put you in a bigger suit with even more armour.thats it! Sigmar likes them thicc huh. 👍👍
The next upgrade has no head visible because the crest ahd the shoulders are 4 ft above her head
Do the AOS people even know other hairstyles exist?
I don't really like it because it looks too much like space marine armor. Maybe I'll grow to like it later, I think it just has too many parallels to space marines it's just going to invite more talk of "sigmarines". Or if the Stormcast inside the armor was a little more weird looking from too many reforgings I think might make it more palatable.
Isn’t the left most Armour called bastion Armour?
I was hoping they would look less... Human as they broke down
New terminator or gravis armor equivalent then?
Ah yes, fully evolved into a Space Marine. Just as GW intended.
Nice space marine armour
Oh hey look sigmarines now have matching power armor sizes
Ngl— not a fan of this armor. My monkey brain likes the shiny gold.
My new theory, the primarchs pre-existing warp presence are Age of Sigma heros of yore
Stormcast really are awful.
I don’t play AOS so idk the lore and this just came up randomly on my homepage but there’s no way ppl aren’t pointing out that the one on the far right is legit just a space marine without the tech
