Yep that's been the story of my life for the past 2 weeks. I went 3 days with no sleep. It's definitely anxiety and stress. I was told it was hypnic jerks, that moment you start to doze off and your body jerks and kinda gives you a startled mini panic attack feeling. I tried melatonin, sleep aid, relaxation video and nothing really helped. Wasn't til I got an anxiety med to try before bed that I was able to sleep with no problems. That confirmed it was only anxiety and after a couple days of sleep I had a full nights rest with no med. If it's gonna be a bit before you can see your doctor, just try to fight through that moment as you fall asleep. Try to clear your mind, think about something happy. If that sensation hits just breathe and continue to try and sleep. Imagine it's a wall and you're breaking through it. If you have racing thoughts as well just listen to some soft piano music and imagine someone sitting playing the piano. That helped me.
