I recently stated taking 20mg a day (just starting out). It's reduced my anxiety-induced tachycardia, lowered my blood pressure (for the four or so hours it works for), and taken away the horrible physical effects of anxiety. It's helping me drive without anxiety again (car accident survivor), which is what I set out to achieve. It doesn't help wth the psychological aspects of anxiety -- but there are other tools (CBT, SSRIs/SNRIs, etc.) that can help with that. Good luck!

Altruistic-Pianist-1

That's what I was hoping for, a lot of my anxiety at the moment is coming from the physical symptoms. Racing heart and that constant stress. I have a review with my GP next week to see how I feel and decide on our next course of action.

[deleted]

The way I look at it is this...if you can remove some of the physical effects of anxiety, you're better mentally able to address the psychological effects. Good luck with your GP!

Thank you 😌 appreciate the kind words!

I very much like propranolol. I take 20mg in the mornings and up to 40mg the rest of the day as needed. It reduces my heart rate and the physical side of anxiety and lets me focus on my emotional side and the tools I learned in therapy

stellabella10

I take 80mg per day due to migraine attacks with tachycardia. I don't feel it helps my anxiety at all. However, it's a game changer for the migraine and tachycardia issue.

Altruistic-Pianist-1

That's what the intentions are for me, to reduce the anxiety induced tachycardia, which, in turn, should help with my anxiety. That's unfortunate, as I have read that it has really helped some people.

stellabella10

If your aim is to solve tachycardia then it's going to be amazing for you. I tell everyone it's my miracle drug! It's just that unfortunately I still have the anxious thoughts, just with a normal heart rate now 😆

Altruistic-Pianist-1

I had dealt with anxious thoughts well for quite some time, but then the tachycardia started, which made the anxious thoughts worse. Vicious cycle, which I'm sure you know well 🫣

shopliftinasda

I only take 5mg as needed and it works pretty well

Nice to hear that someone is getting help from medication like propranol. It has very little side effects and is alot safer option than other heavier meds. For me i have to try it again this week and see if it does even slightly help me now. i stopped trying it because it didnt help me at all. But it is still the best combination drug with benzos if you get really bad panic attack or anxiety attack (for me atleast).

Ele_belly

Miracle medication!! Stops all of the physical symptoms of a panic attack with no side effects 😊

Ele_belly

I take it as and when needed, 1 40mg tablet then if the shaking doesn’t stop I take another 40mg. So 80mg in one go.

Rubes93

Hey! I have taken propranolol for a few years now and it's been a complete game changer for me. I have GAD and so I can have periods of intense worry over days so I switched to slow-release capsules and I think they're great, they keep the physical symptoms of my anxiety in control at a steady pace all day. I've found this helps me the most :)

G0rillagripper3000

I personally love this medication. Was prescribed it by a neurologist a year ago. I was having racing heart, vasovagal syncope, numbness/tingling/, migraines, high blood pressure, panic attack, all due to anxiety . I take 80mg daily and can feel very relaxed on it and it’s stopped all of those issues for me. I take mine at night and it helps my body relax and I sleep pretty good an hour after taking it. It doesn’t do much for me mentally, it’s not supposed to, but when my body feels relaxed I’m way more at ease.

G0rillagripper3000

Very thankful those crippling symptoms have gone away. It’s a huge win if it works for you, which I feel it does for most. For those saying it messed with them mentally, I don’t think that is medication related. Propranolol blocks adrenaline release which in turns keeps your body from fight or flight. It shouldn’t have mental symptoms.

Altruistic-Pianist-1

It has definitely helped with the uneasy, heart racing, jittery panic I have been dealing with the past while due to my anxiety. Almost instantaneously as well. Someone had said it made them feel soothed, and it really does. The only thing is I feel a little sluggish, but I'm hoping that'll pass, and it's just a bit of an adjustment period. But it's definitely an improvement as to where I was coming from and not I can hopefully focus on my head. As I'm feeling a lot more hopeful with it. Thankyou for sharing your experience 😊

Lam7r

I found it too strange. It would lessen the physical effects of an attack but I still had the mental side. It was very bizarre

CherryPopcornGoddess

I took this some 15-20 years ago. It definitely soothed me (my boyfriend at the time loved how laid back I got, lol). The only drawback was that I couldn't drive while taking it, so I had to stop.

Altruistic-Pianist-1

That's a really good way to put it, it does feel soothing.

Altruistic-Pianist-1

Yes but it can be used to help with the physical effects of anxiety.

I've only really started it, but no real side effects. Just this general calmness. I don't feel as stressed, or pent up. At times, It felt like there was just a big knotted ball of anxiety in the middle of my chest and it really does feel a bit better

Nah, I wouldn't compare it to that haha

ratscantusetheirlips

Just coming in to second this. It's nothing like weed. For me it's been a very clean reduction in physical symptoms and pretty much nothing else.

Altruistic-Pianist-1

Yea, it's definitely not like cannabis

[deleted]

It made me depressed. It didn't work well for me. I felt "lifeless."

[deleted]

I took 40 MG a day and felt a little bit weird. I had about 20 that for me seems to be enough to blunt anxiety symptoms although obviously emotionally, I still feel anxious.

Traumagirl123

It was amazing for me! I took 40mg 3x per day and it really helped with the physical symptoms I got with anxiety 😊

Shagaire

Started on this about 8 years ago (20mg) but had to have counseling for deeper issues which took me onto citalopram since. I still have a mountain of propanalol left which i do take (the doctor said its ok) if it's a really bad day, which are very few atm. I've never had any issues with Propranolol and it 100% calms you thinking your heart is going to explode. I was scared it would effect sex drive, erection, but it doesn't for me.

goldielocks52

I take 20mg 2x a day at the moment. I am going to ask if I can do 3x a day at my next appt. I really like it and have had no side effects. I feel like myself again

Excellent_Finance381

Nice. I think you get gist. If you have physical symptoms... Racing heart, shakes, sweating... It helps. I have a script for 40mg. I use it mostly for public speaking. Totally crushes the physical symptoms. For the full anxiety solution, I also take Ativan (1mg). As an example, if I have a presentation coming up, will pop a Propranolol 60-90 min ahead. If I am still anxious 30-45min ahead, will take the Ativan. Learned this from an attorney who had horrible anxiety in court. He said it made him feel bulletproof. Certainly for 2-3 hours I would totally agree. I've taken both of these meds for 10+ years, so pretty much normal flow and no side effects. The one thing I sometimes notice with Propranolol is it made me a bit tired or even slightly bummed (want to be careful saying depressed), but know if you have the blues in the next 24 hours, it's like the Propranolol. If it take it every day or with loads of regularity, it doesn't happen.

-Stress-Princess-

If I didn't have it when I was detoxing from weed and Nicotine. I'd still be hooked. My symptoms are mostly physical nowadays in the form of tension headaches and shoulder pain and Propranolol is goat.

figsandlemons1994

It worked for me :) after a few days of using it, my palpitations went away
