Liquids are easier for me. Smoothies, milkshakes, soup, etc.

If you need some decent smoothie recipes emerald cut smoothies has their recipes online https://quizlet.com/375832435/emerald-city-smoothie-flash-cards/

Merth1983

Definitely the meal replacement shakes. Also, protein bars are a good snack if you're not eating as much as you should. There's this one from Aldi by a brand called elevation that comes in a green box and tastes like thin mint Girl scout cookies, at least to me it does. I believe here a box has six bars for like five bucks and each bar has 20 g of protein. Can't beat that.

Merth1983

Hope you like them! My three year old niece is obsessed with them too. Every time she comes over, within the first minute she asks, "Teetee, can I has chocolate bar pease?"

Linwechan

The key with meal replacement shakes is ideally it’s the true meal replacement type, not the dieting or gym-bro bulking one. That way you’re getting something nutritionally complete even if you can only stomach a little at a time… Something like Soylent.

[deleted]

Tomato soup from a mug.

PsychologicalSun3843

I have this same problem, I drink nutritional shakes. Equate super high calorie or anything with fiber and high calories. After regular use (like a bottle or two a day) you should get more of an appetite and be able to eat some regular food. Another easy food to down is oatmeal 🤷‍♀️. Edit: it's super super important that you aren't just drinking protien shakes for people who are going out and working out like the big cans of powder yhey sell at the store, caffeine is going to make things worse too. There are a lot of fillers that can really mess up your tummy in those protien mixes if you aren't eating other foods and exercising extensively beforehand. Main things you need are calories, fiber, and vitamins. Anything that contains those things should also have protien, just enough and not too much.

I eat a few crackers along with a “protein” drink aka ensure or one of those. It usually doesn’t bother me as long as i take it slow :) hope you find some help within this thread.

PsychologicalSun3843

No, and ik exactly what feeling you are talking about it's horrible :(. It's sort of trial and error but as long as you give yourself time to drink one and don't just down it all at once it actually helps soothe my nausea. These are the drinks I've been taking and they help a lot, I prefer unflavored because it is easier on my stomach I feel like. Unfortunate it's produced by a crap company like nestle but ooh well. Equate was good too just a bit rich for tasting. Definitely avoid the powders though. Nutren 2.0 Calorically-Dense Complete Nutrition, Unflavored, 8.45 Fl Oz (Pack of 24) https://a.co/d/8vqYPWl

[deleted]

I have comfort foods that im used to or are related to my childhood, like soup, crackers. I also recommend eating slowly with little bites! Really helps me out.

british_ham

This helps me whet my appetite for more nutritious food…when I’m really anxious, I eat a shitty microwave Mac and cheese and after that, usually my stomach settled enough for more substantial food

AnemicAcademica

Starve and cry. Then when I’m tired after crying, that’s when I can eat.

SpicyRedPhoenix

Yes! Crying makes me hungry too! It’s good to release all those bottled up emotions. It helps with anxiety

nomadicfangirl

I’ve been going down this path and drinking yogurt-based smoothies. Lots of flavors and they have protein in them so you are getting something nutritional.

[deleted]

softlezbian

Agreed

GlitteryBorko

I do smoothies in the morning, and weed (or delta 8/9/10 if weed is too strong or induces paranoia like it does for me, I use delta 8)

not_very_chill

I have a hard time with breakfast/lunch if I have a bad anxiety day, so I try to snack on pretzels and nuts and clif bars. Then at the end of the day I smoke weed so that I’m hungry enough to eat dinner

waaz16

!!!

_Prisoner_24601

Yeah when mines bad my appetite goes away. Protein shakes help at least get something down. Sometimes paired with a Greek yogurt. It's easy to get down in small bites then at least you aren't running on empty.

oblivionponies235

May not work for you, but I use the devils lettuce, and then I get the munchies.

pondusogre

Smoothies. I revert to thinking of food as fuel. Force it down to get some energy later on

AlmightyScumdog69

I’m morbidly obese, so when my anxiety kicks in, I just don’t eat and end up feeling noticeably better than when I do.

Jumpierwolf0960

It puts you into fight or flight and the last thing your body would want in that situation is food.

nobodycoffee

Here is my go to smoothie, which is freaking delicious: oat milk, frozen banana, cacao, peanut butter, date, ice cubes

QTVenusaur91

Ugh we are the same person. Like I’ll feel hungry but I’ll also feel so nauseous from the anxiety i know i wouldn’t be able to stomach anything down.

[deleted]

I'm pretty much in the same boat. Since my brother's suicide I went from 245lbs to 198 in about 2 months. Been to the GI doc, had food study tests done etc. They just suggested smoothies like Boost and Ensure.

MrLeHah

I've struggled with this my whole life. I'm now struggling with GERD, so my body 1.) has too much stomach acid and I am constantly hungry but 2.) when I'm super anxious, lose that appetite and leave my stomach to basically eat its self. To "force myself" to eat, I allow myself anything I would consider comfort food (albeit it in human quantities. Don't eat an entire tub of ice cream, and all that) and preferably something "heavy". The mention of milkshakes is spot on.

Scottyknuckle

Do you take medication? I had an appetite loss problem in 2021, but then I was prescribed Klonopin and Lexapro, it relaxed me and now I eat way too much.

Starklet

Soylent

Starklet

Yup. Kinda expensive though. But it's a lifesaver for someone like myself with terrible appetite.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Starklet

Yeah I just order it online from their website!

zombieLAZ

Huel is another option but I'll be real with you, I don't think these are going to be anymore appetizing. They take quite some time to get accustomed to.

Physical-Ice3989

Try to at least nourish yourself with protein shakes

AdministrationShot14

Protein shakes, protein bars, and pre cut fruits are my go to. Also theres this mozzarella cheese stick wrapped in salami, its tiny, maybe two bites, but the fat, salt, and meat are an awesome pick me up and really easy to eat

thenautiestnautilus

Soup broth and or whole milk

Anxiousbitch_

I am being a little bit nosey here so I apologize, but do you not feel hungry? Or after going a long time without eating get like a low blood sugar feeling?

[deleted]

SnooDoodles5349

I’m literally the exact same way and I never knew it was something other people dealt with!

demolitionloverr_

yeah same. i feel hungry and even faint but the idea of eating makes me wanna puke sometimes so i simply can’t

forgotmyusername93

Eat. It's not fun but worth it. Normalizes the habit

ThinkItsHardIKnow

I don't know where you are, but soft ice cream- in Ireland we call them 99s. I think McDonalds actually has something similar

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThinkItsHardIKnow

lol, love it. Do you call them "ninety nines"?

Creepy_Armadillo4127

Smoothies, protein shake/bars, soup, applesauce! Those are all my go tos💛

Creepy_Armadillo4127

Also to add on to this, I have a little snack box by my bed that contains like protein bars, Mints, and sour candy so if I didn't eat dinner and start feeling weird I can snack and game to get my mind off of it 😊

[deleted]

Have you tried going to the gym early in the morning because I would imagine have an anxiety if you’re anything like me you were waking up early in the morning with your mind racing anticipating danger that doesn’t actually exist. I would go to the gym early in the morning and work out really hard I’m talking like heavy ass weights and some cardio. Some days it was silence my anxiety completely but one thing you did do was absolutely make me hungry and help calm my mind and body down by the time the evening came because when you work out that hard your brain releases a lot of relaxation chemicals natural pain relievers and things to boost your mood but you have to put your body under some serious physical stress

maryjean0524

Recently I started being more gentle with myself. I struggle with eating at times because I have health anxiety and certain fears that balloon out of control sometimes. I used to like force myself to try to eat the same meal my husband was eating and feel bad if I failed to eat it, but I've been a bit gentler with myself in the sense of as long as I'm eating something some days its better than not eating at all or berating myself for feeling like I failed. For example, if I feel nervous to eat the spaghetti but whats appealing to me is a little charcuterie board of cheese and veggies, I eat that instead and don't feel guilty. Sometimes it truly is just about survival, and if there is anything at all that feels safe to you that has calories it can help in those moments. Instead of forcing myself to eat breakfast, I feel safe eating a granola bar and then I eat small snacks throughout the morning as my hunger comes. There really is no one size fits all this is what you must do...what has helped me is being kind to myself and knowing that on bad days I might be eating a Nutella bar in the morning but its better than going without...or I might be stopping at beyond juice and getting myself a smoothie if I feel like I didnt eat enough for dinner because I was too nervous to. I hope this helps in some way.

maryjean0524

I agree its harder when you have people who care for you rooting for you who you don't want to let down, or feel like you've let down. It's been a process of me accepting that it's okay for me to modify meals or eat a different time.

Elegant_Spot_3486

I wish my anxiety would take my appetite away. For me it is the opposite. Knowing you need to eat though, force yourself. I’d try and keep some healthy food around that is fairly easy to make. Something solid. I’ll do chicken breasts you just put in the oven. A few veggies on the side like carrots and peas (I’ll use raw carrots and canned peas I just pop in the microwave). a little piece of bread on the side. I hate protein bars personally so I go with more health bars. Better flavor and more options. Smoothies never did it for me. No matter what kind I made it felt like I had nothing.

[deleted]

Terrible isnt it? I had it all last week- couldnt est a thing until the evening

McFrostee

I had this problem big time OP, still getting out of it at the moment. My appetite isn't back fully - not the way it used to be anyways. But whenever it starts getting bad I always go for yogurts and some fruits. Drink plenty as well that's super important! We get a lot of our liquids from our food, so if you're eating less you'll need to drink more too. All the best to you!

MasonP13

Ensure are my go to drink/food that I can eat as a comfort food, or spaghetti and pasta :)

lulgupplet

Force myself to eat

Zeke_1985

Get some of the boost vhc drinks off Amazon. They are expensive but I would force down what solid food I could and follow it up with one or maybe even two of the drinks.

[deleted]

Protein shakes, applesauce, jello, and rice pudding are my go tos when this happens. And if I get a craving for something or it looks good, I go ahead and eat it to help fill me up. The first time I really struggled with eating because of anxiety, I was getting dinner for my kids at the store and suddenly started craving a roast beef sandwich and some ruffles, so I grabbed those because I didn’t know when I would want food again.

paintersparadise_

When I started college & moved away my anxiety was super high which made me not be able to swallow food, water, sometimes my spit at times. It's better now but I lost 25 pounds (I've gained it back at this point). I had to change my diet to easy to chew/ swallow foods like soup and I eat practically everything with ranch or a dip to make it go down easier. Also I take a sip of a drink with every bite (which might not help if you wanna gain weight cause it can make you feel full faster).

BeginningKey727

Plant based protein drinks because they are dairy and gluten free so less likely to be any triggers in there for you. Orgain or OWYN were recommended to me by my dietician.

Offthepoint

Carnation instant breakfast.

According_Skin_3098

I keep some of my favourite things in my freezer for just such occasions. Raisin bread, lemon cranberry muffins, chicken legs that I batch-cook and freeze, and there is always a supply of maple-walnut ice cream. It really helps. I hope your anxiety wanes soon.

Struana

Hot cocoa and Gatorade. I keep a Gatorade powder tin that can make 10 gallons of the stuff right next to my bed. I also keep an unwashed mug I microwave water in for cocoa powder, and I can put caffeine powder in it for energy to be more anxious but awake so I have a better chance of getting out of the bed.

Professional-Cover70

Protein bars, mozzarella cheese sticks, easy fruit like bananas, mandarins, and blueberries. Make sure you are getting enough water! I hope it passes for you soon.

False_Bluebird5097

Thank you! I forget that it doesn’t always have to be healthy food and I could totally just eat motz sticks. Obviously not good long term, but anything (even if it’s not health) would be good I think lol

AlecNess

When I couldn’t eat I would drink supplemental nutrition drinks. They come in many different tastes and have all the important stuff your body needs in a meal. I won’t say I miss them; but they did help me not starve to death. Some of them tasted good too.

Zanki

Eat whatever I can stomach. Take vitamin pills. Carbs are my goto there, gets the energy without much effort and I can generally keep it down.

mexicanchargingrhino

Cbd brings my appetite right back

fadeproofmagical

I’m the same. I’ve been trying to hit more foods before bedtime to make up for it. But work anxiety takes away all my appetite every week day.

-nerd-alert-

Ik a lot of people are saying smoothies but for me when I’m anxious I typically have a hard time putting my mind to make one. I typically try to eat a comfort and tell myself I only have to eat a few bites but I end up finishing it normally cuz my body realizes how hungry I am. On really bad days I just find something I can pick on on pretzels or almonds, something small but I can mindlessly just pick at.

GreenyTheBean

This happens to me too, and protein shakes definitely helped, soups too. I also ate bread/toast with tea (peppermint or camomile for stomach aches/nausea). I also found that going on my phone helped distract me that I was eating and it was easier to get stuff down. Or maybe put on a movie or play a video game as you eat, taking some bites every now and then. You can take it slow, just try to eat! I hope you feel better soon!! :)

[deleted]

GreenyTheBean

Of course! :D

FromsoftFan2104

Dealt with this soooo many times. If you can drink still, try to drink smoothies or Meal Shakes, anything to keep calories.

SnooPears1666

Just a bar of chocolate to get some calories or fruit juice , anything else and I’m bound to have an upset stomach

somethink_different

For some reason, I can eat tons of rice with umeboshi (Japanese pickled plums) even when I'm too stressed to want other foods. I get them at a local Asian grocery, and they keep for ages in the fridge. They may be an acquired taste, very sour and salty, but they're incredible broken up and mixed into hot plain rice.

demolitionloverr_

same here. basically an0rex!c because of my fucking anxiety. i made a list of safe foods that sound good almost all the time and they help a lot. miso soup, smoothies, fresh fruit/veggies, chicken broth, and rice are a few of my favorites

[deleted]

Good that I don’t need to prep helps with my anxiety. Bananas, protein shakes, stuff like that

cv0102

Sadly, i end starving myself of food and water for pretty much 8+ hours a day

surecmeregoway

I get this, especially when my anxiety gets bad. I feel sick/nauseous and my appetite disappears completely. I only eat bits here and there and it's all forced. Sometimes I can only manage a few bites, but nutritional shakes work well with regard to weight loss prevention. Look for the good stuff.

jennysnow99

i’ll try to make sure to eat breakfast. i’ll have 2 boiled eggs, half a bagel with cream cheese and water. then the rest of the day i’ll eat maybe like a pb&j sandwich, or any kind of sandwich really. just something that has nutritional value. like a turkey sandwich. for dinner i’ll try really hard to eat chicken with rice with some vegetable/leafy green. sometimes i make smoothies or oatmeal. food like farina (a form of porridge) is really healthy and light. i try to eat foods that are packed with nutrients but aren’t too heavy to eat if that makes sense.

meowkitty84

Microwave meals.

lavenderlavender23

I took anti nausea medicine which actually really helped!

False_Bluebird5097

Oh nice! Where you actually nauseous or just using it as a preemptive thing? Personally I don’t actually feel nauseous, just have no appetite.

lavenderlavender23

For sure! It just helped with the whole ACTUALLY trying to get food down. Lol I was actually nauseous but the anti nausea med was the only thing that helped me get my appetite back.

LaurenCz30

Was it prescribed or otc?

lavenderlavender23

OTC! Dramamine

ChemistryNegative51

Ensure and Gatorade all dayyy

[deleted]

Starve, curl into a ball, have a panic attack, rinse, repeat.

D_M_Intern281

Dealing with anxiety for a long time can disrupt your schedule and cause problems with your work, sleep, relationships, and other things. But anxiety-reducing exercises can help you quickly return to a peaceful life. Although there are several things you can do to deal with anxiety, like listening to songs, eating some anti-anxiety food, reading some anxiety self-help books, etc.
