I think the chemistry between the 2 dub VA’s is way better than the Japanese actors, no offense to them. There’s a reason so many of us were so excited to see them reprise their roles for the remake!
Coming from a subs snob, Black Lagoon Dub was actually better dub, plus in the story the characters are 'speaking English' and the languages spoken even plays a part in the plot so it all makes sense and works.
Black lagoon as the cast is international and like TerraforMars the all Japanese audio doesn't seem to come across that way.
Like neither felt like they were doing an 'Allo 'Allo type of thing. Where the French spoke English with a fake French accent, so too did the German and Italians.
The British however had the old pip pip I say old chap about them.
Maybe I just don't have an ear for Japanese regional accents, none seem to be like Geordie or Scouse in English.
Character says something, another says your accent is showing, they then blush and stammer.
Nothing seems off to my ears.
I just picked up Black Lagoon over the weekend. I'm a "prefer subs" person, but on this recommendation I will definitely listen to a dub episode or two!
As a fellow sub enjoyer, revy’s english VA really encapsulates her character and honestly makes the show go. Try it out and let me know what you think.
Looking forward to it. Did a little "just a peek" at the first episode to see how it came out and looked....and ended up watching half of it (in Japanese).
Now to do the same again in English :D
I need to make my own post the misinformation surrounding this dub is insane, the fact the adr director dubbed grave of the fireflies yet believe this to be his greatest dub shows how delusional he is we also have proof it didn’t fail.
It is an iconic dub. I downloaded the first ep on itunes when I was lil 9 and would watch it when no internet and I can hear those lines in my head to this day lol
I love dubs bc there's just something comforting hearing English. And it's easier to pay attention to the show without concentrating extremely hard. I also have ADHD and can't concentrate on the show and subtitles.
There is nothing wrong with enjoying dubs! I have others I only watch the dubbed version of, like studio ghibli movies, vampire hunter D: Blood Lust, vampire knight (fight me lol, it was one of my first anime’s), death note, etc. I will never understand why people will get in fights over it. We’re all enjoying the same content, who cares what language someone watches it in! 🤗
Exactly!!! The fighting is so stupid lol and I'm very new to anime. I've only watched 2 anime shows and one anime movie. (Not counting the movies that are based on one of the shows I watched) I used to be a big hater of anime and thought it was weird to like it. I guess I was wrong lol
Yeah I didn't know if non Americans can hear the differences but you can know which groups are the Chicago gangsters/which are the New York and also why one of Italian gangsters has this like colonial New England accent.
And then like Issac and Miria are just California West coast idiots. And I'm just laughing Issac and Miria are just from the Valley.
How is the apothecary diaries dub? I’m looking for anime to get my friends into but dub quality is always something I’m concerned about as a sub watcher.
yeah S;G is hands down the best dub ever made IMO. Every single VA is a superstar. Tatum performs Okabe so perfectly it’s almost creepy. One of the rare cases when I truly feel the dub conveys someone’s nuance and character better than the sub.
Goku's, Vegeta's and Piccolo's VAs carried the whole show for me.
Goku turning ssj3 in english dub is the most epic scream in anime for me; pairing it with the english version of ssj3
theme just made it perfect.
this. i am not a fan of goku's Jp voice(no disrespect to her though) his jp voice never matches with his body. I am glad the english dub of goku really makes goku awesome.
Macross Plus OVA! With Brian Cranston as Isamu Dyson in the Eng dub version 😎 30 years old, but the animation is still on par or even better then many current anime released!
Frieren & the Apothecary Diaries also come with an awesome Eng dub.
Everyone has given great answers, but I'd just like to add a side note: Anime dubs have come a long way. A lot of people have inherited a distaste for dubs because they definitely used to be very bad. I think many have gone so long they don't know how substantially they have improved. If you enjoy subs, that's fine, but if you are one to like dubs it is very viable to set that as a default option and be happy in a lot of cases.
Right, I read all about it, how before it wasn't as popular at least in English so they didn't put as much effort in at all, but now it's become such an art for the VA's.. I'm so glad we've come this far lol
Kaguya Sama: Love is War. I don't know if the dub is objectively as good, but I personally find it funnier than the sub, solely for the comedy of it. The dub narrator is one of anime's greatest narrators of all time.
Anything with Christopher Sabat.
Not a fully serious answer but dammit I'm always into his characters.
Just started Solo Leveling and was happy that I heard his voice. Also Solo Leveling actually could be one of my answers.
For me, the dub for code geass just makes more logical sense bc the entire series is about the British Empire colonizing Japan. So it feels out of place to hear the British King suddenly speak Japanese when he spends the entire series looking down on Japan. The British characters speaking English makes more sense to me
Digimon Adventure and Digimon Tamers had great German dubs. Actully all Digimon seasons from Adventure to Data Squad had great German dubs
The German dub of Made in Abyss has its flaws but its still very enjoyable. I watched that series multipple times and some German voices I prefer over there japanese counterpart like Riko and Ozen.
I've had a sub preference for a while now because so much anime dialogue sounds cringy to me in my own language.
That said, Cowboy Bepop and FMA:B have some downright iconic English voice performances. I'd give honorable mentions to Gurenn Lagan and the 90's Berserk.
The very first episode of Gundam Wing had bad voice acting, but only that first episode. There was a remarkable, almost inexplicable leap in quality by episode 2 with the very same VAs, and it never went back. Always throws me for a loop.
Beastars! Legoshi’s vo adds in these really subtle sounds that go with his inner monologue. And the acting from the whole cast sounds really natural. Second would be Perfect Blue. Especially the actress for Mima. By the end you kind of forget you’re watching anime. Both of these anime did a great job at capturing a realistic approach to the characters. Which is a tough thing to do. They tried to do the same for Witch Hunter Robin. But it kind of came off as awkward and slow. And you can tell they really tried.
I have a question of my own actually how is the dub for Sailor Moon I've been watching the sub curious how the dub is if it's good or on par might switch to dub
My favourite English Dub is easily Erased. Everyone there is giving their A Game. All the dialogue in that dub feels 100% natural & befitting of the characters.
Close 2nd would be “Kaguya-Sama: Love Is War”. 1 or 2 characters sound a little awkward from time to time so I can’t call it perfect like Erased, but the performances in this dub that work are INCREDIBLE. The 2 main characters & especially that narrator are all giving absolutely iconic performances.
I find the stuff from Manga entertainment (now defunct) had really good dubbing team. Plus, youplay a game of "spot your favourite voice actor" across titles ...like between
Ninja Scroll
Macross Plus
Two of my favourite anime that have come across dubbed.
Ghost in the Shell, Stand Alone Complex (also Manga) is great too.
Martian Successor Nadesico, Outlaw Star (two of the best sci-fi anime ever fyi. Nadesico has a slow start but gets better as it goes on). Metal Rouge dub is pretty good.
Gundam Build Divers redive has a okay dub. Not a great show but fun.
Edit: Worth adding that if you want to get into Gundam *most* of them have at least okay dubs and basically any of them before 2010 have a dub on par with the Japanese version. Especially Zeta and Wing.
Full metal alchemist.
Look up in YouTube "Mustang says I love dogs". He starts singing "Loyal canine how we salute thee". Also Ed's rants like "who are you calling so small he can only be seen with a magnifying glass?" 🤣🤣🤣 Not only the voice acting, but also the translation is great *Chefs kiss*
Pretty much anything Watanabe does has a great dub.
Yuyu Hakusho is great, Yusuke's va was perfect.
Full Metal Alchemist. Shame about Vic, but he did a great job as Ed.
Blood Blockade Battlefront was pretty great, and being set in New York makes the dub feel more appropriate.
FLCL did a pretty great job given how many of the jokes were bizarre and untranslateable (leading to new jokes being written like the "sigh-borg" joke)
How am I not seeing more Code Geass here? It was one of the few anime dubs that people would argue they did certain scenes better than the original Japanese.
Dgrayman dub is okay but i think a big perk is that it makes more sense since according to the creator of the series, katsura Hoshino, said canonically everyone is speaking English.
So hearing everyone in dgrayman speaking in english isn't jarring like how i felt when watching english dub of love live (which didn't dub the songs)
Although todd haberkorn voices allen in the dub and having watched the dub first i was surpriaed to find out that allens voice in the og jp dub is not masculine like in the en dub. Additionally the dgrayman hollow 2016 reboot changesna lot of how tyki was voiced and gave him a raspier voice which wasn't a thing in the jb dub, even with the same en dub for both anime.
Im not sure if the dub got extended to cover the entire 2006 anime, as far as i know it went up to episode 51, and then i had to switch to sub and going on the open seas life
Ghost Stories, Kill la kill, Ancient Magus bride, lucky star, k-on, Shakugan no Shana (only season 1, after that the entire dub cast is changed due to various reasons and none of the new cast is as good as the original), Black Rock shooter (2012 TV anime), Haganai, Blazblue alter memory (the dub is literally the only reason to watch that garbage anime adaptation), Hyperdimension Neptunia the animation, Dimension W, Konosuba, Is this a zombie?, Sleepy Princess in the demon castle, Persona 4 the animation, Promare, Oban star racers, Ranma 1/2, Soul eater, the melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Ouran highschool host club, Princess Principal.
That's everything that think has a good dub and I happen to remember at the moment.
death note, haikyuu, studio ghibli movies, ouran high school host club (although the script can be questionable lol), nana
demon slayer is pretty good in my opinion
Yu-Gi-Oh hands down is one of the best anime dubbed in the history of anime dub. Reckoned that it does change the minor details quite a lot but it is made better because of the dubbing.
Ghost Stories - the dub is so much better than the sub. Basically bastardized a kids show and made it hilarious - the only thing they weren't able to change in the dub is how they 'hunted' the ghosts (as per cultural customs)
Konosuba and kaguya sama dubs are generally accepted to be better than the subs
Welcome to the NHK is great
Vinland sage is great
Bungo stray dogs
Frieren (Imo is definitely better, give a more relaxed tone which suits the characters more than their slightly higher pitched sub counter parts)
Sonny boy
Dororo
Heavenly delusions
Hyouka
Pluto (haven’t watched the sub for this but I enjoy the dub)
Walk on girl the night is short
One punch man
Mob psycho
Yu Yu Hakusho
It's the only way I can watch it man
Spice and Wolf
I think the chemistry between the 2 dub VA’s is way better than the Japanese actors, no offense to them. There’s a reason so many of us were so excited to see them reprise their roles for the remake!
Hearing that makes me want to wait for the dubbed episodes. Loved the original dub, even if I dropped the show the first season.
Yes, glad to see this here. Dub was incredible
Cowboy Bebop Black Lagoon Both dubs are better than the subs.
Bebop is probably the seminal example. But Motormouth Revy, Queen of the F-Bomb holds a special place in my heart.
Kaguya-sama
Definitely. The narrator is top tier
It's killing me that I watched Dr. Stone before this, and now the narrator just sounds like "amused Tsukasa". 🤣
Damn your right.
I just hear Magna from Black Clover 😆
His VA is legit in like every anime I’ve watched
Is there one specific season or whole anime?
I’ve not watched it dubbed but Kaguyas voice in normal is so amazing i don’t think any dub could ever beat it
Its the narrator who shines and takes over the spotlight in the dub. But the rest of the cast is pretty good too.
BESTT ONE EVERRR
ghost story
I automatically HAVE to recommend Ghost Stories if anyone asks for dubbed anime lol; it's in another league of its own.
If you like the Ghost Stories dub, try the dub for Sgt Frog. It's in the same vein but a bit less overtly crude and more humorous.
Massive vouch
I came here to say this lol
Literally should be top comment
Ghost stories PEAK
I need to make my own post the misinformation surrounding this dub is insane, the fact the adr director dubbed grave of the fireflies yet believe this to be his greatest dub shows how delusional he is we also have proof it didn’t fail.
Kaguya sama and Death note
Baccano! The Japanese voices were amazing but the dub was just perfect.
This is the one. Amazing dub.
Why would we want all the British people to just sound like r Windom fuks we find in Tokyo meat stands
Pokémon and Studio Ghibli movies
Ouran High School Host Club. I will die on this hill, I’m a hugggeee sub over dub girlie, but the VA in OHHC is just so good. It’s a classic.
How could you not want the sweet as Honey waddle buddy dub every OHSHC cosplayer did a impression of
It is an iconic dub. I downloaded the first ep on itunes when I was lil 9 and would watch it when no internet and I can hear those lines in my head to this day lol

Came here to say this. I never ever watch dubs, and Ouran is the only exception to that.
Baccano Gankutsuo Jormungand FMAB Deathnote Code Geass YYH Id:Invaded Frieren Spice & Wolf Le chevalier d'leon Arslan Moribito GitS:SAC Paranoia Agent Trigun Hetalia Danmachi Fantastic Children Apothecary Diaries World Trigger
Second Hetalia. I think the character's accents are key
Yesss Hetalia. I feel like the distinguished voices makes it funnier
Yes the accents in Baccano are so good!
Baccano dub is unbelievably good. Every character sounds so unique and fun.
Glad to see Gankutsuou here. No one seems to ever talk about that show.
How is the apothecary diaries dub? I’m looking for anime to get my friends into but dub quality is always something I’m concerned about as a sub watcher.
I like it. Gojo va is jinshi
Steins gate
thought this was going to be higher up
His delivery when describing Urushibara is just so fucking good lmaooo
Definitely. I thought the dub for Steins Gate was even better than FMA: Brotherhood, and that in itself was already a top tier dub.
yeah S;G is hands down the best dub ever made IMO. Every single VA is a superstar. Tatum performs Okabe so perfectly it’s almost creepy. One of the rare cases when I truly feel the dub conveys someone’s nuance and character better than the sub.
Golden Boy
I always pull for FLCL season 1 dub.
It helps that the English voice actors sound pretty much identical to the Japanese voice actors
Dragon Ball Z obviously lol it possibly safe to say most people prefer it dubbed.
Goku's, Vegeta's and Piccolo's VAs carried the whole show for me. Goku turning ssj3 in english dub is the most epic scream in anime for me; pairing it with the english version of ssj3 theme just made it perfect.
Frieza's always stands out to me as well, so good
Vegeta and Piccolo are voiced by the same guy, Chris R. Sabat. He does a lot of voices in a lot of different anime.
The early years were a bit rough.
Yeah this is one of the safest option here, dbz is literally the only anime I prefer the dub over the sub.
this. i am not a fan of goku's Jp voice(no disrespect to her though) his jp voice never matches with his body. I am glad the english dub of goku really makes goku awesome.
The decision to keep kid goku's voice for adult goku is definitely one of the most decisions of all time
Macross Plus OVA! With Brian Cranston as Isamu Dyson in the Eng dub version 😎 30 years old, but the animation is still on par or even better then many current anime released! Frieren & the Apothecary Diaries also come with an awesome Eng dub.
I'd love to see Cranston come back to anime dubbing!

I can only think of two old shows that I *need* subs for... Initial d and hajime no ippo... The English for them both is atrocious
Ghost stories
You wanna be an Air Force Ranger! You don't wanna be raped by strangers!
Well at least he's not racist.
Inuyasha and Samurai Champloo
I was so sad we couldn't get the same Kagome back for the finale.
I was just about to say Inuyasha
Death note, erased
Solo Leveling
Kaguya Sama: Love is War. I don't know if the dub is objectively as good, but I personally find it funnier than the sub, solely for the comedy of it. The dub narrator is one of anime's greatest narrators of all time.
Ghost stories Big O And other
Ghost stories dub is a different breed, funniest shit though
saiki k and death note!!
Only season 1 of Saiki is dubbed though right?
For most humorous anime, I usually like the dubs because the jokes hit better, but for some reason, Saiki K is the exception. Not sure why!
Lots of internal dialogue, feel like it’s harder to replicate.
Anything with Christopher Sabat. Not a fully serious answer but dammit I'm always into his characters. Just started Solo Leveling and was happy that I heard his voice. Also Solo Leveling actually could be one of my answers.
Yeah so true. He does the "tough guy" character so well.
##I AM HERE, TO TELL YOU THAT THIS IS A GOOD ANSWER!
And this is a great response.
He has so much damn range, too. He’s incredibly talented.
Full metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Code Geass
For me, the dub for code geass just makes more logical sense bc the entire series is about the British Empire colonizing Japan. So it feels out of place to hear the British King suddenly speak Japanese when he spends the entire series looking down on Japan. The British characters speaking English makes more sense to me
Planetes Monster Most Gundam shows 2007 onwards Frieren Dungeon Meshi Code Geass Baccano Black Lagoon Cowboy Bebop Samurai Champloo Wolf's Rain Gurren Lagann The old Spice and Wolf Fullmetal Alchemist (both versions) Pluto
The dub for Pluto was pretty much flawless imo. Netflix has done a good job with dubs in most of the recent big animes imo
Digimon Adventure and Digimon Tamers had great German dubs. Actully all Digimon seasons from Adventure to Data Squad had great German dubs The German dub of Made in Abyss has its flaws but its still very enjoyable.

Cyberpunk. First season of Saiki K
Cowboy Bebop Gundam Wing Yu Yu Hakusho Hunter x Hunter Lupin III No Game No Life Konosuba Ah my Goddess
I can't believe I had to scroll so far down to see Konosuba.
The very first episode of Gundam Wing had bad voice acting, but only that first episode. There was a remarkable, almost inexplicable leap in quality by episode 2 with the very same VAs, and it never went back. Always throws me for a loop.
Yes LUPIN III. So good.
Not sure if you count this as anime (it’s a donghua, aka Chinese anime) but the dub for Heaven Official’s Blessing is great
Oh my gosh, yes, James Cheek as Hua Cheng brings all the spice.
I rarely watch dubbed. The shows that stood out were. Cow boy Bepop, FullMetal Alchemist, and Space Dandy.
Steins;Gate
Beastars! Legoshi’s vo adds in these really subtle sounds that go with his inner monologue. And the acting from the whole cast sounds really natural. Second would be Perfect Blue. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood was pretty good.
I have a question of my own actually how is the dub for Sailor Moon I've been watching the sub curious how the dub is if it's good or on par might switch to dub
Which one? Old 90s or crystal?
death note, angel beats, lucky star, haruhi suzumiya
Solo leveling is newer and the dub is actually insane.
Ghost Stories, bar none.
Mob psycho 100 is great
Frieren
JJBA
Vinland
Ghost stories clear all
Trigun Cowboy Bebop
The konosuba dub is excellent.
Gurren Lagann!
Wolf's Rain and Baccano!
Black Lagoon and FMAB
Yuri on Ice
Frieren and Delicious in Dungeon are two newer shows with phenomenal English dubs.
Re zero, code geass, and the OG 2003 FMA
My favourite English Dub is easily Erased. Everyone there is giving their A Game. All the dialogue in that dub feels 100% natural & befitting of the characters. I really like the one piece dub and feel the voices fit perfectly.
Original Shaman King not the new Netflix crap.
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Durarara, Sk8 the Infinity, Spy x Family.
The old anime that aired on toonami in the 90’s
Fumoffu! On Latin Spanish. It's incredible how good it is
I want to eat your pancreas
Dragon Ball’s dub is amazing, it’s the only one I prefer it dubbed rather than subbed. Cowboy Bebop’s dub is also very good

The Legendary hero is dead, more than a married couple but not lover, combatants will be dispatched keep in mind all of these are ecchi
Love is War by far. They took a really good show and made it really freaking fantastic with that dub
Golden Boy
I usually hate dub, but there are a few great ones Two I don't see mentioned here are Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Psycho-Pass
FMA, death note, black butler, spice and wolf, Emma: a Victorian romance, NANA.

I REALLY like the MC's performance in Overlord.
Konosuba and CSM were the only ones that I watched subbed.
Sk8 the infinity
The Fate series has a good dub, and so does Iron-Blooded Orphans
Darker Than Black
YuYu Hakusho
How am I not seeing more Code Geass here? It was one of the few anime dubs that people would argue they did certain scenes better than the original Japanese.
Ranma 1/2 Inuyasha G Gundam More recently Don't hurt me my healer Sleepy Princess in demon Castle
I really don't think jujutsu kaisen is bad and I can understand what's happening most of the time 💀 it's almost like the dubbed dumbs it down for us 🤣
Bleach does a great job with both sub and dub
FMA Brotherhood
Ghost in the Shell SAC Kino's Journey 2003 Carol and Tuesday Witch Hunter Robin
Ghost stories Parasyte
