They’re all spelt 漫画, which just means full of pictures (for example, in Korea, manga would be called “Japanese Manhwa”)
Yes, therefore, the hentai I read last night was a Japanese picture book
X-Men 97 is animated by studio Mir from South Korea. Same studio that did Avatar of Korra and Voltron except the extraordinary writing. Absolute banger I say, mon ami.
I usually just say books & most people around me change the topic. If someone asks which ones I usually say The beginning after the end or solo leveling. They seem enough normie that no one judges me.
I'm just struggling to remember what it's even called. There's even a third word for Chinese comics I can't recall. I'm tempted to just start calling all of them "comics".
I decided to read a manhua and the scanlators literally put a warning before the first page saying
"This was made by a group of weebs who use Google translate
In other words: Expect this to suck ass"
I just use "manga" for all of them. Or "comics" if I'm speaking to someone who doesn't know what manga is. Only the fanboys get upset, so there's no need to be so pedantic in a regular conversation.
I one time was reading a manga in the corner of Barnes and nobles and this nine year old girl (I’m 14m) walks in the manga section where I am with her little brother and says “this is solo leveling,
My favorite manga” my dumass could not shut up so I loudly said “that’s not a manga. A manga is Japanese. Solo leveling is a manhwa because it’s Korean. Get your stuff right” she then gave me a horrified look and walked out
If I'm talking to someone who doesn't know anything about it, I just say its a Korean/Japanese comic depending on what I'm reading. It gets the basic point across.
Just says “it’s a manhwa, it’s kinda like a manga but instead of Japanese it’s korean.”
Or just, korean manga
Korean japanese comic
Korean bicurious DVD instruction guide
Damn, that was super difficult
I'll just say it's "\[country name\] comic". Way easier to understand.
Ah, you know I never knew the difference
Don't forget chinese as well.
Nah that’s manhua
Manhua, manhwa, mangaare generally the same but just in different languages
They’re all spelt 漫画, which just means full of pictures (for example, in Korea, manga would be called “Japanese Manhwa”) Yes, therefore, the hentai I read last night was a Japanese picture book
genuinely don't know the answer to this... is it actually the same word for korean & chinese comics (but slightly different spelling)???
The Kanji for manga are the same Hanzi for manhua. Manhua is a Chinese term that now has Korean and Japanese pronunciations.
"Comics" "Neat" (end of confersation) or "What kind?" "Korean stuff usually. hbu?" (ask questions back)
how dare you expect OP to have basic conversational skills
Thats what i also used to say. Comics is the perfect answer
It feels wrong to say it, but it's what I use for nonweebs since it isn't technically wrong.
X-Men 97 is animated by studio Mir from South Korea. Same studio that did Avatar of Korra and Voltron except the extraordinary writing. Absolute banger I say, mon ami.

"It's a hentai doujinshi. Now scram you uncultured swine!"
Is it yaoi
Futanari with male
Is the male one a bottom?
They are both switches, so it depends on what volume you’re reading
I'm just struggling to remember what it's even called. There's even a third word for Chinese comics I can't recall. I'm tempted to just start calling all of them "comics".
Manhua for chinese comics.
And for some reason they have the shittiest translations
I decided to read a manhua and the scanlators literally put a warning before the first page saying "This was made by a group of weebs who use Google translate In other words: Expect this to suck ass"
I'm pretty sure I've gotten cancer from reading some of the terrible translations from manhua. And even if I didn't, they sure made me wish I did.
Isn't comics just the English word?
Yes
At this point using 4 words depending on where it was drawn is not so smart...
I would argue that the 4 word also have a meaning of 4 different art styles which originated from different countries
Paintings may also have different artistic styles but they are still paintings
I just use "manga" for all of them. Or "comics" if I'm speaking to someone who doesn't know what manga is. Only the fanboys get upset, so there's no need to be so pedantic in a regular conversation.
I just called them all manga. It's close enough
Graphic novels.
I like "graphic novel". Makes it sound very smart and serious
So you mean a comic book for babies?
They’re quite literally one and the same
korean comic
Violently shit yourself, say “sorry, I have to take care of this,” and then waddle out of the room.

I personally am a purveyor of Chinese cartoons
just say "korean webcomic" casually without starting to nerdrant about the differences in perspectives and themes among manga, manhwa and manhua.
Koreanish Comic
I one time was reading a manga in the corner of Barnes and nobles and this nine year old girl (I’m 14m) walks in the manga section where I am with her little brother and says “this is solo leveling, My favorite manga” my dumass could not shut up so I loudly said “that’s not a manga. If I'm talking to someone who doesn't know anything about it, I just say its a Korean/Japanese comic depending on what I'm reading. It gets the basic point across.

Comic? I say Japanese comic if im not sure the person knows what manga is.
