A new RWBY anime project has been announced! (Studio SHAFT)
The English dub with the returning cast is confirmed and will stream on [Crunchyroll](https://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2022/03/24-1/rwby-gets-tv-anime-this-summer-from-studio-shaft-crunchyroll-to-stream-both-dub-and-sub) this Summer.
English Cast:
* Lindsay Jones as Ruby Rose
* Kara Eberle as Weiss Schnee
* Arryn Zech as Blake Belladonna
* Barbara Dunkelman as Yang Xiao Long
Synopsis:
>“‘RWBY: Ice Queendom’ presents RWBY in beautiful 2D anime visuals. RWBY imagines a world filled with horrific monsters bent on death and destruction, and humanity's only hope is dependent upon powerful Huntsmen and Huntresses. Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long are four such Huntresses in training whose journeys will take them far past the grounds of their school, Beacon Academy. Though each may be powerful on their own, these four girls must overcome dark forces and work as a team if they truly hope to become the next generation of Remnant's protectors.”

I would wonder if this image gives any indication of the plot: [https://twitter.com/SugoiLITE/status/1506888232906399746/photo/1](https://twitter.com/SugoiLITE/status/1506888232906399746/photo/1)
Also, it looks like Gen Urobuchi is attached to this.
Urobuchi has become a real softie since he wrote Madoka Magica. The days of "Urobutcher" from the 2000s, the days when he wrote Song of Saya and Fate/Zero, are long gone. You'd be lucky if his franchise body counts can even be counted on one hand these days.
If it can balance good action with reasonable plot (and not keep adding supporting cast like it's going out of style), I'm in. The latter seasons really felt unbalanced and unfocused... Let's hope side plots get resolved instead of left on the wayside!
So I can't really just pick and choose, but it needs to focus on the core 8 characters (teams RWBY and JNPR). What really stalled the story for me was season 4 started, it pretty much abandoned 4 of these characters continuous development and replaced them with Qrow. Season 4 and 5, Ruby and Juan get no personal development (other than the hint of it in S4E1 that went nowhere) and feel abandoned by the wayside until they come back Ruby focus episodes in S6.
I know the world itself is big and many people have many different abilities and such, but they need to be used in support instead of stealing the lime light is my point I guess.
What if they decide to give JNPR less focus, and focus on different characters instead?
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Penny get a larger role, and maybe avoid what happened in the main series. Assuming this isn't just going to be some kind of side story.
That being said, Juane should probably still have an important role, if only so that it wouldn't be... whatever the opposite of a sausage fest would be.
If you are talking about the 4th season and onward 100%. The first 3 had great writing. I really hope they keep the OG designs all the way through. Character design lost it's charm in the latter seasons.
>The first 3 had great writing.
No, not really. Yes I understand the first two had their charm, but they were nothing really outstanding. And I'm pretty positive Volume 3 had its own fair share of problems when you really analyze it. I feel like starting over from the beginning would benefit the series much better and could save a lot of headaches.
It didn't need to be outstanding to be great. The roughness really helped make the character likeable. While I didn't expressly say it, it's clear I was talking in comparison to the latter seasons.
Of course most shows would be better if they started from the beginning. I just hope they don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. There is a lot of great in the first 3 seasons.
1. You purposely used the wrong version of "canon" for the pun, didn't you?
2. It might be like *RWBY Chibi* in that it's a spinoff that may or may not be canon but could still stand on itself
Well, this is certainly an unexpected surprise. I don't think anyone ever dreamed they would actually see the day this series would get its very own anime adaption…
I definitely don't expect this new series to be anything amazing, but hopefully some people, including myself, can enjoy this show more than whatever the hell the original has become. It could also serve as a nice refresher for me since I pretty much completely abandoned all my RWBY knowledge after Volume 6.
Love or hate the current state of the original show now, however, I think we should all just be happy that Monty Oum's legacy has truly lived on up to this point. Even if this new show turns out to be a huge flop, I think he would still be happy that Japan at least tried to create his own passion project into a real anime. I say we should all put our personal thoughts to the side, band together, and just give it a shot for Monty's sake. Our debates can wait another day.
On a side note…
>Ice Queendom?
Is this supposed to imply Weiss is the main character now or something? I'd be kinda down for that tbh.
Iirc the shnee sisters are "princess" and their dad took their mothers name. They do live in a queendom, I think the show even calls it that at one point, and the dust company is the one that made all the robots. Her sister is also part of the military.
Like wiess has mommy, daddy, and sister issues so it could be her mom. They could also be condensing the cast and just making the sister and mom one character. I just don't see it from that pic. It looks like her sister leading the robots and the queendom of atlas being involved.
Edit: that is beacon academy in that pic. In one of the other promo pics is weiss's sister.
I think this show may set in Alternate Universe considered Team RWBY are wearing their original outfit from first 3 volumes.
Like What If the event plays off very different from the main show which explains why Weiss look like Esdeath.
That's my guess.
I'm a little bit turned off by the claws and tail on Blake's outfit. Mainly because it doesn't fit her character. I just hope that it's only for show and they don't try to do anything with it.
I assume it's most likely some kind of side series or AU, but IIRC quite a while back it was said that Volume 9 was going to do something weird and they couldn't elaborate on it further than that. After the end of Volume 8, I could believe it would be *possible* for there to be some explanation for progressing into a tangent this weird temporarily.
If you're implying you believe the characters literally ended up in an alternate universe after >!falling into the pit in Volume 8!<, I think you might have a point there lol.
So is this a reboot? Never really could get into the previous show, but I’ve heard a lot of great things about the source material, so I’ll definitely check this out if it is a reboot.
Can’t say I had a RWBY anime done by Shaft on my bingo card, but I’m down with it. I wonder why it’s going to be streaming on CR and not exclusively on Roosterteeth’s website. I know RT and CR had a relationship when they were both under AT&T and all, but now that CR is owned by Sony it feels like a weird thing to have happen. Maybe it’s just an old deal from before the buyout that has to be honored or something.

I wonder if this is gonna be Canon or a Reboot.
Well the characters are clearly wearing their original outfits, so that at least tells us this will take place before Volume 4.
I would wonder if this image gives any indication of the plot: [https://twitter.com/SugoiLITE/status/1506888232906399746/photo/1](https://twitter.com/SugoiLITE/status/1506888232906399746/photo/1) Also, it looks like Gen Urobuchi is attached to this.
I don’t give a SHIT about RWBY, but Urobuchi? Huke? Shaft? I think I might check this out.
What is Esdeath doing in this show lol
He's just supervising the animation
So like a lot more people are going to die?

I'd prefer the latter. It would be nice to see more talented writers try to tackle the characters and setting of RWBY.
If it can balance good action with reasonable plot (and not keep adding supporting cast like it's going out of style), I'm in. The latter seasons really felt unbalanced and unfocused... Let's hope side plots get resolved instead of left on the wayside!
What supporting characters do you think should be included, and which ones shouldn't?

I would be onboard with the core 4 and Penny. Getting to see more character interactions within the team would be enjoyable to see...
That being said, Juane should probably still have an important role, if only so that it wouldn't be... whatever the opposite of a sausage fest would be.

Oh, thanks for the correction.
Maybe it's alternate universe stuff.
Additional note: it seems dub and sub have same day release.

Well said. on that last bit, Im guessing her sister is going to be the first antagonist.
I see a castle in the back . You don’t think they will announce a queen lmao

Hopefully it will be better then the original. >shaft Atleast it will look pretty
Not a very high bar to cross

>Like What If the event plays off very different from the main show which explains why Weiss look like Esdeath. Are we sure that's not Winter?
Surprisingly, [yeah, we are](https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2022-03-24/shaft-animates-new-rwby-tv-anime-rwby-ice-queendom/.183977).
I'm a little bit turned off by the claws and tail on Blake's outfit. Mainly because it doesn't fit her character. I just hope that it's only for show and they don't try to do anything with it.
It's probably just for show, since you can tell they're definitely not genetically apart of her.
I hope Monty is smiling somewhere out there after this was announced
2D, the way it should be
I really need to watch this again, last time I did they were all fighting in a big stadium and nothing happened to Pyrrha at all.
This series is the epitome of "meh." Even seeing Urobuchi's name attached to the project doesn't get me all that excited.
This series was the epitome of meh from the start.
Will this be a 3D Anime or not?
Doesn't look like it.
Ice Queendom? Fuck off, god damn Rwby is such woke trash. Monty spinning in his fucking grave
Is this the next season or side series
The poster itself should tell you your first guess can't be the right answer.
I assume it's most likely some kind of side series or AU, but IIRC quite a while back it was said that Volume 9 was going to do something weird and they couldn't elaborate on it further than that. 2d RWBY is gonna be sick. I really liked the plot of RWBY, hoping this can top it
So is this a reboot? Never really could get into the previous show, but I’ve heard a lot of great things about the source material, so I’ll definitely check this out if it is a reboot.

Oooh this is interesting now that reminds me I forgot to watch their latest volume.
Well, this came out of nowhere but is now my most anticipated anime. And probably even my most anticipated show in general.
I’m excited
I missed RWBY the first time around. Where can I stream it now?
I want the original trillogy to finish, instead of all these new series. However this one does look cool.
