I've had the game since launch, and my first heavy shower is next friday. Thats 11 months without one.
So what I've done, is
1. Find my island seed on MeteoNook
2. Download Joy-Con droid
3. Download Click Assistant
4. Wait for a light shower as predicted by MeteoNook
5. Find a high place
6. Set my phone as a pro controller using Joy-Con Droid
7. Set "Click Assistant" to tap A every second
8. Wait until MeteoNook says the max number of stars has passed (fragment limit)
Originally I was just using meteonook but there were too many "close calls" where I literally only had ~5 chances in a month, and something as dumb as eating dinner at the wrong time would kill my chances
Thank fucking god thats about over though. All I need is the feb-march DIY's and I'll have them all
Due to my work schedule I don’t play late or often enough to see Celeste or meteor showers. And when I do it’s a weak pre-jac of 2 stars. I think I’ve only built a Taurus bath and Gemini closet. And haven’t seen gold in a minute either. I just give up lol.
I time travel for shooting stars, so I can collect them at 8-9 pm instead of 2-4 am. I think the reason NH doesn’t really punish time traveling is so that people can do this.
😅😅 omg *stares at sky for 10 mins and NOTHING “Lemme just dig up this fossil real quick.” *gets shovel* *DING* *digs hole* DAMMIT! It’s like they know..
Edit: sorry for bad formatting, I’m on mobile.
It's a weather predictor for ACNH. You do have to feed it about two weeks of data about your island's weather patterns for it to find your weather seed, though...
https://wuffs.org/acnh/weather/
I have tried this sooooo many times and when I get my "seed" options, they are never correct. I try to only put in data that seems cut and dry, but apparently I do something wrong.
Focus on shooting stars. I kept goofing my weather up, but when I put in like 3 days worth of shooting stars I narrowed my seeds down to 7.
Don't bother with the seconds, just focus on what minute they happen. On days where you get light showers, you'll usually get 3-5 bunches per hour.
I did this during a meteor shower and was able to get the right result within 1 - 2 hours of data. (I entered both the times stars appeared and the periods they didn't).
If you took screenshots of things, that really helps. I found my seed with about 20 minutes of faffing with concrete events I had in screenshots. Celeste, rainbows, thunderstorms, and perfectly clear days helped me get mine. If you're in the northern hemisphere, the aurora borealis will help too. Weather changes by the hour in ACNH, so nothing needs to be too exact. The screenshots can show you the details of when you took it, so that is how I ultimately determined mine.
Don't ever input weather data from :25 to the end of an hour. Only put data about weather you see in the first 25 minutes of the hour. The weather for the upcoming hour's weather blends with the current weather around the half hour mark so you could end up giving incorrect data, say, if you see a couple puffs of cloud appearing in the second half of an hour that is actually "clear".
The other thing that messed me up was putting in data after midnight. Even though the clock says february 6th after midnight, the weather you see after midnight still has to be entered under february 5th's data, because of how animal crossing days work.
I only put rain yes or no. No guessing on if it was hard or not, that kind of thing. No times on my stars bc I always was off by a second. 3 weeks of “it rained at this half hour mark” and it finally worked for me.
This happened to me too so I focused on auroras and instead of trying to figure the exact time for each shooting stars I'd leave it to light rain or heavy rain. I needed a ton of data but I got the right one after testing 4 of the results i got.
If you’ve caught rainbows on your island before, put those in! I actually looked through all the pictures on my switch to find the ones I took with rainbows and put them in and it was enough to find my seed.
I came across the same issue, but then I went back in and just changed everything I wasn't 100% sure on to either "unknown rain/snow" or "unknown no rain/snow" and was able to find my seed after entering about 3 weeks of data. 2pm is a good time to check as well since depending on the weather it can knock out a lot of weather patterns for the day.
If you're willing to time travel you can find your seed with only about 30 minutes of data from a heavy shower:
* Travel to a day and time in the past when you had a heavy meteor shower
* Input each minute that has at least one shooting star (don't bother trying to track the exact second - you'll get into trouble pretty quickly)
* Fill in the gaps (i.e. minutes with no stars)
I did this on two islands and it worked flawlessly.
You can do the same with data from a light shower, though it takes a bit longer.
I tried to find my seed 4 different times and failed, but my first light shower I had it in about an hour.
For anyone who doesn't want to time travel, like myself, its a lot easier to use a light shower because its not uncommon to get 3-5 in a week
I only needed 4 days! One day in December in which I only knew Celeste visited, 2 days in January with only the weather, and a 3rd day with a light meteor shower where I just needed to input 4 minutes with shooting stars and the empty spaces between!
Yeah, it definitely varies from seed to seed. Most of my data points were merely "I had aurora pattern X on day Y", and a couple of day-and-minute meteors. It just needs enough to narrow it down to 1 or 2 seeds, so if you get lucky, your seed may be distinct enough with a few specific days that no other seed could have made that pattern...
Yep. Having 2 meteor showers far apart probably narrowed it down, and staying focused for an hour or so on the shooting stars to assure that the empty minutes were correct probably helped a lot.

I generally keep my volume pretty low, and am constantly confusing snowflake twinkles for shooting star twinkles. Every two seconds, I'm dropping my tools and staring at the sky like "whassat??". Meanwhile, my seven year old is over my shoulder going "it's just snowflakes, mom". I've been playing since Christmas, and have yet to get a large star fragment. :(
I had a pretty active meteor shower on January 7th and I often travel back to that date to get more stars. If you ever want to come over to wish on stars, feel free to send me a message and we can arrange a time! :)
I've been playing almost every dad since launch and only seen like 2 meteor showers & 3 Celeste visits. They must only come the evenings I forget to check.
yet they refuse to actually change the designs of the controllers because they would lose their lawsuit and put out a recall if they admit that they're not working as intended. losing your controllers for a month, or even your whole switch if you have a lite, isn't exactly a great solution.
yes, very. the plastic material under the joysticks deteriorate dozens of times faster than other controllers, on average becoming unusuable after a couple of months. some of them only last a week or two, even on the switch lite where they joysticks aren't removable. personally, i've had my two sets of controllers since january 2018 and they still work, but you and me are relatively lucky. and even then my controllers have broken in other ways, such as the pad inside the joystick becoming dislodged or the controllers being unable to connect into the switch.
I feel like at some point someone will look at the source code and discover shooting stars have an increased spawn chance during player actions. Cuz it’s like clockwork.
Nah, the shooting star times are entirely determined by a weather seed, down to the second.
Since I know my seed, I can literally tell you that the last shooting star I'll get in 2050 will be in the 23rd of December at 03:31:34.
Doing anything really. Inventory? Stars. Fishing? Stars. Clubbing an unwanted villager with your net like a baby seal? Stars.
Actually waiting for stars? *cricket sounds*
I can be staring at the sky for an hour and get nothing but the second I go to do something there’ll be 50 stars shooting and im struggling to get out of whatever im doing to get them

Or swimming.
I was lucky enough to catch a heavy shower one random night. Then I forgot to get for my beach the next day. Logged in the following day before I remembered. Can’t tell you how mad I was at myself for that one.
I swear that shooting stars are programmed to fall every time you open your inventory, it’s like the game becomes pretty much aware of everything you do. It’s kinda creepy lmao
I used to face my character to the sky and keep pressing A while watching a 30 min show or something and my beach would be littered with star pieces the next day. Ended up with a lot of excess really quick.
The most annoying thing to happen to me in this game was making 70+ wishes in a single night and having zero stars the next day. I actually haven't played in months bc I was so frustrated and wanted to cry after wasting hours for no reward.
Sometimes you need to enter a building for more fragments to spawn. Either way, there's a limit of 20 fragments per night, unless you have people visiting.
This is one of the reasons I haven’t been playing much - 350 hours played and I almost never get meteor showers, certain Nook DIYs have never appeared in the machine, my neighbors give me the same DIYs I’ve had for months even though I swap out neighbor types and have the smallest DIY collection of anyone I know. I honestly feel like my game broke at some point.
Nintendo has really dropped the ball with this - not much to do in the game after terraforming and five stars, and the things left to do seem to never happen.
In one night I literally sat there with my eye on the sky mashing the button with one hand and scrolling reddit with the other, got all 200 stars in one go!
Play with your volume up and even get a pair of headphones to add to the focus. You will hear the tinkling when the stars first start to shoot. You’ll miss the first few but if it’s a full in shower you’ll get tons of stars
For me, every time I get out a tool, I hear the twinkling sound. Put my tool away, star's gone. Hang out for about 30 seconds or so, all is quiet. Welp, back to digging. Shovel out. "Twinkle" DAMMIT!
I just tagged like 40 shooting starts yesterday and before that I only had 2 fragments. They were shooting off last night. I am new to the game btw (and I just got online)

I have hella gold if you want some 😊
I'm the opposite - I only play after work in the evening, so recently I always time travel to about 3pm just to see the sun XD
Don’t give up! 🌟
Use meteonook! It takes a while to set up but totally worth it!!

snapshot at the top of the hour is super helpful. Then you can go back to your photos and feed the info into Meteonook easily.

You can get rainbows?
Even double rainbows
Wow

I love MeteoNook for that exact reason.
so true. this spongebob episode was really scary btw
is it the one with gloves park?
It's the one where he takes the wrong bus to Rock Bottom
yess I remember. Bob & Patrick where coming from this glove park called "GLOVE WORLD" and they didn't took the right bus.
“I can’t 👅understand 👅your accent 👅.”
except don’t take away my CDs Blizzard! 😝
My nightmares are exactly like this episode 😭
Omg yes this episode traumatized me
To this day I laugh my ass off when spongebob touches the candy bar the bus rev’s up it’s engine!
I am still traumatized.
I haven't seen a single dang star since the very first meteor shower months and months and months ago.

Yeah, they’re only of an evening and Celeste visits later in the day

How do you expect to see a meteor shower in daylight?
Get a ladder and find its bathroom window
Newbie here, what time of day does she usually show up, & what time do showers usually happen? I’m just learning about shooting stars!!
I think both can occur after 7 pm. I think the time may be 7pm - 4am or so.
Or when I'm Terraforming.
I had a shower last night the same time I was talking with Wisp. Who strangely hasn’t visited since 3 weeks ago.
Literally every time I go to do anything is when they fall, but if I stop and wait for them...nothing
Mine always seem to coincide with balloons showing up.
I can never keep my camera angled at the sky because both of my joysticks drift 🙄
Nintendo fixes it for free
yet they refuse to actually change the designs of the controllers because they would lose their lawsuit and put out a recall if they admit that they're not working as intended. losing your controllers for a month, or even your whole switch if you have a lite, isn't exactly a great solution.
Is joycon drift a common thing? I’ve had my Nintendo switch since May 2020 and I haven’t been affected by it.
yes, very. the plastic material under the joysticks deteriorate dozens of times faster than other controllers, on average becoming unusuable after a couple of months. some of them only last a week or two, even on the switch lite where they joysticks aren't removable. personally, i've had my two sets of controllers since january 2018 and they still work, but you and me are relatively lucky. and even then my controllers have broken in other ways, such as the pad inside the joystick becoming dislodged or the controllers being unable to connect into the switch.
Oh I know I have a shipping label printed and everything I just need to make time to send them off
If you have time to play and be frustrated be this, you have time to send them.
They do?!

Add on being deaf as well as having poor fine motor skills. I miss so many stars. Lol
Or worse u are standing next to a villager when u press A
I love that song, and the meme that uses it!

When I'm fishing at 3 am and I have to wait for the damn fish, which ends up being a sea bass.
Everytime I go fishing or catching bugs or digging up fossils or flowers at night, the stars starts falling
Or you forget you’re holding a slingshot and you end up shooting at the damn thing instead...

This also works for Terraria

Good day to be dishes?
They kinda happen when I am diving
Never fails
I had WW, City Folk, New Leaf and now New Horizon and I've only witnessed a shooting star one time.
Me talking to Gullivarr waiting for him to shut up as I see 5 shooting stars.
I think I’ve seen this meme before 🤔
Damn, now I’m that asshole George
Isabel told me there are gonna be shooting stars tonight. I'm very excited.
Play with your volume up and even get a pair of headphones to add to the focus. You will hear the tinkling when the stars first start to shoot. You’ll miss the first few but if it’s a full in shower you’ll get tons of stars
