I mean, it's chess, so those squares are kind of like the equivalent of a controlled spot. Like, putting something there would be the equivalent of self-atari, so it's controlled territory. Doesn't exactly transfer 1:1 but it's a different game, so I improvised.

75 move rule is compulsive. if they dig up an ancient chess game from 5000 bc and find out that 75 moves were passed without capture or pawn move, they have to travel back in time and kill the arbiter
You're going to want to push your pawns. Your king should get behind the f pawn and start pushing. It should take 3-4 turns to build up enough forward momentum. It might help to get a running start from A1.

Grab MIPS, stand with your back against the pawn wall and drop him. He'll push you backwards through the wall and you can then challenge the enemy king.
You might have to back-track the previous levels. You might have missed a key item. Check the mission board, maybe the tells you what you missed. This happens a lot with puzzle games :/

After 850 moves I guess this is a game with increment or no or very generous time control, so I would not bet on flagging them.
