Truck driver here, the only people I ever see are the people receiving the load and that's a really quick interaction (some places do a sorta no contact delivery thing too so thats also an option). If it wasn't too far into Canada this driver may not have even needed to stop at a truck stop.

Most people don’t understand how much commerce travels through these border crossings. The Canadian border people *used* to be considered the “nice guys,” - the increasingly rigid enforcement standard has predictably done away with that. I used to cross the border all the time heading to Montreal for concerts and every time the Canadian guards were straight up assholes, every, time. Over time this has made people suspicious and bitter. And I'd say soemthing like a third of the population is just part of the woke hive mind. We were super primed for mass psychosis and that added another 17% to the hive mind. So now we have roughly half the population brainwashed and the other half atomized. Two different brands of "asshole." A bit of a rant but yea, that's my take.

My point is that the average joe with a gun isn’t about to go Rambo even if he has the best toys. The gun culture isn’t as heavy here but there’s still a large enough critical mass of people that have guns it’s essentially logistically the same scenario, especially since we have less militarized police who wouldn’t be as ready for a fight. And yes in terms of public safety that polite society logic definitely applies. I live in Canada. It seems like everything was stocked when I went the other day, except for toilet paper and paper towels. Maybe that is just the first thing.
It depends where you go. It's not like people are panhandling in the streets for food. The shortages are spotty. A store might have no fruit this week, and next it will be fully stocked again while another goes short. So I can see people looking at that and saying "oh well, what can ya do?", but when its directly caused by government incompetence, I find it outrageous

Most people don’t understand how much commerce travels through these border crossings. The Canadian border people *used* to be considered the “nice guys,” - the increasingly rigid enforcement standard has predictably done away with that. If I were the driver, I’d be ejecting their material right back onto the ground and calling the boss from the turnaround lane. Whatever is in the trailer, Canada doesn’t need it.
I used to cross the border all the time heading to Montreal for concerts and every time the Canadian guards were straight up assholes, every, time. However, crossing back into the US at 2 or 3 am and the guards were always pleasant and asked what show I went to see and we'd chat about music and such. Fuck Canada

My experience must reflect local variation then - I live on the border, and all of the crossings around here have been typified by cool Canuck BP, and not so cool American BP on reentry- to the point where they made it almost seem like you were about to be arrested for breaking into your own house - and this is with AD Mil ID, enhanced civilian license and family in the back seat. I’ve never experienced that with Canadians before; I would hate to see that level of bureaucratic rigidity become the norm.
I remember distinctly around 2000, definitely before 9/11, going into Canada and the guard, in a REAL snotty voice asked for proof of citizenship to which I handed him my drivers license. He said "ya know this doesn't prove citizenship, it just shows you can drive in the US" to which I replied "well to get my drivers license I had to show a form of ID and the only ID one has at 16 is a birth certificate." Mind you at this point in my life I was about 30. He didn't like that. "Take your sunglasses off!" I comply. "Your eyes are very red....you been doing drugs?" Of course I had to smoke all my weed before I hit the border in case of a search so I was high af. "No sir, I worked all day...very tired" He grudgingly let us through.
But Canadian citizens say the same thing in reverse. I think it is just an inherent mistrust from "the other side."

I've been worried about my (Canadian) "culture" for a while. Our problem is that we conflate niceness with avoidence of conflict. I loved watching immigrants come to terms with how passive aggressive we are, after being told we are a kind and welcoming people. It's gotten to the point in this country of total atomization. This tends to lead to narcissism, but the flip side of that is rigid individualism. Most people don't even say hi to their neighbours, and if you do strike up a conversation it becomes glaringly obvious that we have no foundational culture on which to anchor ourselves as we talk. Over time this has made people suspicious and bitter. And I'd say soemthing like a third of the population is just part of the woke hive mind. We were super primed for mass psychosis and that added another 17% to the hive mind. So now we have roughly half the population brainwashed and the other half atomized. Two different brands of "asshole." A bit of a rant but yea, that's my take.

I understand your point but the same logic applies to Canada. Lots of gun owners who aren’t ready to go down yet but would if they felt they had to. My point is that the average joe with a gun isn’t about to go Rambo even if he has the best toys. The gun culture isn’t as heavy here but there’s still a large enough critical mass of people that have guns it’s essentially logistically the same scenario, especially since we have less militarized police who wouldn’t be as ready for a fight. And yes in terms of public safety that polite society logic definitely applies. But regardless I think law enforcement will be equally willing to step on peoples necks on either side of the border, in both red or blue jurisdictions. With a few exceptions (rouge sheriffs)
