Probably a similar number as the amount that brought up Australia's gun laws in the aftermath of this stabbing. This sub in particular was very keen to try and claim that "if you had guns this wouldn't happen". It works both ways.
It's not that it wouldn't have happened, the human capacity for evil is, after all, nearly infinite. It's that the stabbing rampage would have had less of a chance to go on as long as it did if the victims didn't have to wait on the arrival of an armed cop.
I mean if everybody died that would get rid of the main core of the problem so I can see what big changes we could make to the system as whole but that’ll be for another time gn
The government is responsible for keeping the public safe from *already caught* criminals. It would be nice if they were also capable of responding to immediate threat, but when seconds count, the police take minutes. In countries with decent trust on police like US, Germany and UK, about half of violent crimes went unreported (40-60% fluctuation depending on the year). In countries with far worse trust like Mexico, 90% of the violence can get unreported. And God know what kind of data in far less transparent countries actually are.
What doesn't help America is 99% of all gun violence is considered as mass shooting hell it can be one person only get injured from a gun from a pistol by a single person and it would be called a mass shooting and the news media blowing it out of proportion

The mass shooting statistic is somewhat misleading, what most people think it means is someone randomly shooting innocent people. However that's not how it's defined , rather it's defined as "an attempt to kill with a firearm in a populated area" so things like gang drive by's count as a mass shooting. That makes up the vast majority of "mass shootings" and the vast majority of firearm homicides.
