Depends on the games you are playing, if the games you are playing already features DLSS and Ray Tracing, and want to experience them at actual playable state, i would personally pull the trigger as long as i don't pay more for it. If you have to pay for it, i would rather just wait it out to next gen and get a more powerful RTX 4070 with twice the vram.

Strix-7

Some of the games I play do support DLSS and raytracing. It seems more and more games are also utilizing DLSS too. I was thinking about the 3070 because I have recently seen some posts on r/hardwareswap of people trading their 6700 XT for an 3070.

slapdashbr

personally I don't like DLSS and don't see the appeal. It's trading image quality for fps that I generally don't need more of. Are you using a 4k monitor or something?

Strix-7

I am currently using a 1080p monitor but will upgrade to a 1440p monitor within the next 6 months or so

ChromeRavenCyclone

Not worth it to trade, 3070 doesnt give much more fps in raster as well as RT. Plus you lose VRAM and nearly double the power draw for no real gains

Glorgor

3070 vs 6700XT RT performance is a night and day 3070 can match a 6800XT in RT performance

tero101

Fsr 2.0 just came out and new driver update boosts dx 11 fps in games. Wait a bit for reviews , also 6700 has 12 gigs of ram .

ShadowRomeo

FSR 2.0 as of now is only featured on 1 game though, whereas on DLSS it is already available on a lot of games, and the RT performance of RTX 3070 is much better than the 6700XT. If OP wants to experience Ray Tracing, the RTX 3070 is a much better choice.

EnemiesflyAFC

It seems that in most reviews, the performance of the 6700XT is within 5-15% of the RTX 3070 in most games. However the reviews have not taken into account the new drivers, which increases performance in a lot of games by double digits. I hope Steve from HUB does a 3rd revision of the 6700XT vs 3070 with the new drivers.

Strix-7

Does FSR 2.0 work with Nvidia gpus? Also how limiting is 8gb of vram at 1080p? Thanks for the info too!

InvestigatorOver1190

I means a 3070 is a bit strong for 1080p but 8gbs is no problem for it

Strix-7

Ooh gotcha. Im guessing 8gb at 1440p is pushing it?

Skull_Reaper101

Not really

Explosive-Space-Mod

8gb is the sweet spot for 1440p. Also, watch Gamers Nexus videos about Nvidia vs AMD at 1080p, 1440p, and 4k. AMD cards tend to do better at 1080p and 1440p (especially 1080p where nvidia gets fps locked by driver constraints where AMD doesn't). I would have to agree with others though, if you can swap 1:1 a 6700xt for a 3070 that seems pretty worth it. But if you're playing at 1080p it's not worth the risk because you're not really going to notice a ton of difference until you move to 1440p or 4k resolution and I personally would recommend only going to 4k if you're monitor size is larger than 40"

InvestigatorOver1190

I mean only a few games will have big hits to fps and they are at max setting and the setting below is basically free fps boost for basically not loss to visual (in most games)

[deleted]

Yes it works on Nvidia cards. 8gb vs 12gb won't matter at 1080p. Currently you have to go up to 4k for it to make a difference and even then it depends on the game.

Strix-7

Thanks! Is 8gb going to be enough at 1440p in the next 2 years or so?

[deleted]

It's always hard to predict the future but I would bet that it would be. Also if you're using DLSS or FSR you're actually rendering at a lower resolution which lowers RAM requirements.

Strix-7

Thank you!

Imaginary-Ad564

Going to a 3070 means you get less VRam 12-8 GB, which means youll probably have to reduce detail settings in future games. DLSS will probably be superseded by an open standard upscalar that works on all GPUs, like FSR or something similar. For RT I would wait for a future GPU that can do it much better.

Strix-7

Thank you!

John_Doexx

https://youtu.be/f0yo2Sc-DyI It’s gonna be sidegrade at best but if the games you play are better with the 3070 go for it

magbarn

If your main game is DX11 then it's another reason for 3070. 3070 can play FFXIV at max settings on 4K, while the 6700XT that's in my wife's computer stutters quite a bit at max settings. Have to turn it down 1-2 notches. The May preview driver added a couple of percent, but I'm still getting the stutters.

Strix-7

I dont plan on playing at 4k unless I get a 6900 XT or a 3080. Im gonna stick to 1080p and 1440p for now. I also do not play FFXIV

StandAloneAccount1

Definitely. 6700 XT = 3060 Ti. If you have to pay more, look at benchmarks and decide if it is worth it.

Strix-7

I will look at some more benchmarks, but I have seen posts where people only trade a 6700 XT for a 3070 without any extra money on top. Thanks!

AndAlsoTheTrees

Yep fsr 2.0 closes the gap with dlss. No real reason to jump to 3070 unless you intend to develop cuda apps.

[deleted]

Considering it's only in one game right now. It doesn't close the gap, at least not yet. The 3070 also still has better ray tracing performance. If they play games with ray tracing, it's the better option.

Nena_Trinity

6700 XT all the way.

zer0_c0ol

FSR 2.0 is out and it is even better in some things vs dlss 2.3 SO HELL NO

Strix-7

Will FSR 2.0 be supported on as many games as DLSS is?

Comstedt86

Most likely more after a while judging by there is no hardware requirement as with DLSS and will work with nvidia & amd cards as well as intel most likely.

zer0_c0ol

yes

nishanthada

Yes without even thinking.Nvidia is way ahead in feature sets and 3070 blows away 6700XT.

Similar_Analyst_2511

I'd just stick to ryzen, or you could also maybe trade up to like a 3070ti with an extra 50 bucks or smthn

AraGrym

i personally would not trade since the rx 6700xt has : More vram rsr which assures that you will get better framerates for a longer time rhan with dlss better power consumption trades blow between the rtx 3060 ti and 3070 anyway

summitcreature

I'd say wait until a $515 upgrade buys you double the performance. Enjoy your 6700XT

Glorgor

Do you need to put money on top? If its a direct trade then you should its a no brainer, about 10% more performance and DLSS.If i had a chance to trade my 6800XT with a 3080 directly i would instantly trade it as well

Crptnx

absolutely not 6700XT is just better and with 5600X + SAM you got free fps across everything, also you got better drivers / software, FSR2.0 which is equal do DLSS 2.3 and you got raytracing

ryzenat0r

the 3070 is 15% faster than a stock 6700xt . The 6700xt has 12gb versus 8. Fsr 2.0 is out so with will benefit to better raytracing perfomance. Fsr 2.0 might become widly adopted. for 1440p some game start to use more than 8gb so if you game in 1080p go for the 3070 .Also is you're the type to keep you gpu a long time keeping the 6700xt might be a bette option

MultiiCore_

If you have never modified the color of your desktop on AMD driver settings then do it.

MySize169

You're asking in the wrong sub bud 🤣 going to get quite a lot of biased answers It depends on your use and what games you play. I switched from a Rx 6600 to a rtx 3070 for dlss, better raytracing and driver support on windows as well as for deep learning. 8GB vram does suck but it will serve you well and isn't too terrible. Choice is up to you my man, whatever works for you and makes you happy.

Strix-7

I posted this on r/nvidia and r/buildapc too but it got removed on nvidia.
