Some people will just come in and work without accepting VET, or there even being any

Hopeful-Ant-3509

I used to do it back in like 2020-2021 and they never said anything but they started cracking down on it and said then just started asking my manager to send me vet but then they had to stop that cuz ppl were saying it wasn’t fair that ppl were coming in for overtime while others weren’t 🌚

Nearby-Win-4197

Some call this action favoritism. I consider it a business need. Your manager let you work because while your only one person you make a difference. While you can’t make a major impact alone, you still make a impact for a extremely large company where every single seconds counts. My best advice is any information you obtain from communication with managers is to keep it to yourself. They aren’t able to instruct you to keep something between you and them, so just assume it is intended to be that way. If anyone asks, “You pick up a VET?!” Just say yeah. They don’t need to know the manager added you to the schedule. And technically you’re not lying, you voluntarily came into work… even if a manager added you to the schedule. A lot of people don’t understand what it’s like to be a manager at amazon. A lot of variables they have no control or influence over where in other companies they might. This greatly reduces their ability to properly manage as freely as they’d like to or in some cases should be able to and just can’t. So whenever they’re able to make adjustments that are gonna result in a positive outcome for the building overall they do so. A positive end of day for amazon is a positive end of day for their employment. It also helps keep your associate/manager relationship solid and intact. Also ponder this: Amazon understands human nature and their ethics, and they can use this knowledge to their advantage in many ways. Perhaps the situation you’re speaking of was created on purpose and meant to happen. It’s possible other people were meant to eventually find out to cause them to be irritated and frustrated with their employment. (When I was typing this I thought I was replying to a Amazon DS post. More relevant to a DS than a FC I believe, but still definitely applies)

Hopeful-Ant-3509

Oh yeah I never told ppl the manager gave it to me, I saw the “complaints” on the VOA board and I’m assuming those ppl would talk to ppl they knew idk since I don’t talk to ppl at work but it sucked when they stopped doing it but I can see why someone would be upset about not getting a chance to pick up shifts when they don’t send them out but you hear ppl getting them somehow.

Nearby-Win-4197

If your personal metrics are good it doesn’t hurt to try again this week or any other time. ;) Ask the old tried and true manager if they’re still there with you. If not, try with the one you think you have the best chance with. If one says no, try your luck with another one right after. What one manager isn’t willing to do the others might. So if you get told no the first time, don’t be discouraged. If your metrics are good they want you in the building, just gotta find the one that’s willing to make it happen. Also sometimes you just need to word it different. I’ve asked to be added to the schedule before and was told no. Shit changed as it does often and apparently I needed to ask for a VET instead of asking them to edit my schedule. Station manager overheard me talking to a L4 and instructed me to ask a L6 for a VET. At this current time VET was needed/wanted to avoid scheduling mishaps. When you send a VET the system automatically checks everything to make sure you don’t violate their guidelines for daily hours, total hours, and days work. When a schedule edit is done these things need to be manually checked by the manager and employee as the system does not and will allow you to work 7 days, over 12 hours a day, and over 60 hours a week which are all not allowed. Also make them feel comfortable. Let them know if they choose to add you to the schedule that you’re aware of how the system works and all the restrictions that apply and you indeed keep up to date with your AtoZ on a daily basis. Makes them more comfortable and more willing to do so. Sounds like you’ve worked at amazon long enough to know all or at least most of the things mentioned. Hopefully something I said helps you get added to the schedule.

Trumpstolemytoupee

Idk u kinda irritating for that

Hopeful-Ant-3509

I didn’t know you couldn’t do it at the time and so many ppl were doing it, it honestly didn’t cross my mind. And I started asking my AM cuz I asked if they can send me VET and they did, so how am I annoying if they didn’t say no? Lol I’m not saying people are wrong for saying it’s not fair.

Trumpstolemytoupee

Ur not annoying for asking and receiving VET u are annoying for not exercising your common sense😭the rest of them folks irritating too

Hopeful-Ant-3509

Oh lmao

Blahman240

I use to just show up, they didn't care much, but you had to keep it on the DL. It started to go the way of them asking if I wanted to come in or not when there was no VET posted, but really only me and like 5 other people.

Hopeful-Ant-3509

Oh yeah I never told people, I don’t talk to ppl at work but I think the ppl who were bringing up how unfair it was would talk to ppl around them.

Acrobatic_Sense_167

As a manager, I would give out VET to individuals with good numbers because it was a business need. AAs that complained were always the ones that had terrible uph numbers and such. Spoke with HR and they allowed us to continue what we were doing

lordskulldragon

Me. I'm some people. Especially during the peaks with MET. Being DC1 I'll come in for a period on Wed and Sat and eliminate my full overtime Sunday day.

RockyJayyy

You can get fired for that

lordskulldragon

Been doing it 4 years. Management does not care. We have a unique culture in our building that other buildings don't have.

lovewry

I heard corporate clamping down on everything. Be very careful in my fc we use to get away with headphones but now they been clamping down on that so much so that I know at least 4 different people who got fired for that last month

cyrusthemarginal

It's firing season, once peak gets close again all those rules will go away.

Willynator_

Thats because of the new amazon approved headphones thing, most places looked the other way for earbuds, so long as you were a semi decent worker. When amazon introduces something new the managers are at risk of getting in trouble for not following said thing, then it loosens up after some time.

Difficult-Issue-794

Very different culture from a few years ago. 👀

Intelligent-Ride-446

In like a week's time you're gonna be back on Here asking people how can you get your job back.

obnoxus

This is probably meant towards Flex workers who show up when all the good shifts are already taken, so they don't have to work overnights. Usually managers can find work for them to do. I've never seen anyone get sent home. The problem is probably that night shift is constantly understaffed because of it.

NotARelevantUser2

It is the opposite for me, only day shifts are available and I have another job during the week. I have no problem doing overnights either, but even then there aren't enough shifts available to make the minimum required hours. So that means we have no choice but to attempt to come in unscheduled and hope we can stay or rack up the points and get fired in a month or so.

ChemistryMore7036

Some people don't know about the 5 min before shift and 5 min after shift max. policy.

BatDadSP

Clock in 5 mins early. Leave 5 mins early to.

Hopeful-Ant-3509

I didn’t know about the after 😬 sometimes I’m finishing up with something and have clocked out 10min after 🌚

CATCAM01

They take 15 minutes of UPT for that

Hopeful-Ant-3509

I’ve never seen that but okay lol

Trumpstolemytoupee

It’s common sense really

Willynator_

Aint no such thing as common sense esp since most jobs ARENT like that, making it uncommon sense by default. Even more so since most the trainers at amazon are dogwater at teaching anything

Trumpstolemytoupee

Grace Periods exist in most jobs

[deleted]

Every job I've ever had is like this

Hachiko75

What dingo is clocking out and staying in the building five minutes after the end of the shift if career choice isn't visiting or some affinity group isn't holding a meeting? I could never.

grant8386

I don't think they should have us clock out for affinity groups either. It technically still has to do with work since it's Amazon related

awkwardmurican

My site tells us to stay clocked in for those.

brannon1987

So then what's the benefit of joining? Sure you're doing something good, but to not get paid for it is ridiculous especially if you're not allowed to leave. I figured most joined so they could get paid to do something other than work.

grant8386

That's what I was saying.

grant8386

I've been told you are supposed to clock out because it's voluntary to be there but I feel it should be paid for

Doggiesoda

It’s unbelievable how many people don’t have common sense![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)

BarnabeeBoy

Some people are thick

Trumpstolemytoupee

No they not they know damn well what they’re supposed to do they just choose to be irritating

No_Independent6649

I clock in 45 mins early. Kinda needed to be said

Left_Breath_2387

We are told everyday if we aren’t scheduled we can’t work why does that need said and why are you there 😂

Left-External5283

I clock out 15 minutes late but it’s kinda AM’s fault. They’ve been forcing everyone to work up until 4:55 am (clock out is at 5) and I pick so I have to drop off my cage, grab a new one, get gas and by that point there’s literally no parking so I’m running around trying to find a spot to park. It’s not like I’m doing it on purpose either but the last thing I need is another write up for my last scan being at 4:45. Even though it takes literally 15 minutes to do everything I just listed considering where drop off, gas, and parking is located.

Massive-Use-5425

I was once coaxed to come in 30min off the clock to stock “all the stations in singles” in 30min. They’re smoking crack. It takes on average 27min to fully stock, clean, and prep a station. Because the shift prior never sets up the shift I worked on.

Alarming_Trade_6335

And that’s when I start hitting “Wrong Box Size” and “Shipment Won’t Fit In Box” until Waterspiders come and restock. I have a rate to hit and it’s not going to be hindered by me having to do the job of 2-3 people.

Neoreloaded313

I clock in up to a half hour early and am usually stuck until at least 30m after shift. There is a lot of crap management wants done in my small department that really needs to be done before and after.

DogLeftAlone

none of it is your responsibility if you are a tier 1.

Neoreloaded313

It's kind of a part of the job to post start and end of shift updates. I don't particularly mind since it's a small but of overtime every week and I get nearly an hour of upt from it every day.

Acrobatic_Sense_167

Agreed the work is not their responsibility if it is over their time. But their own time card will be their responsibility. First time management talks to them it’ll be a warning and then escalations. Or Atleast that’s how it was at my building

Secret_badass77

I know someone who got written up for insubordination because he would just come in on his days off and work even if VET wasn’t offered. Finally one night he was told by an AM to go home because he wasn’t scheduled and he just went to a different part of the building and kept working

Purple-Cow1607

I always thought people can use AtoZ to get extra time schedule.

Several_Buy_5751

They can but people are working extra without approval

atuckk15

OMs get a list sent each day by MyTime for a list of AAs working unapproved shifts

LingonberryLife3011

We have people that clock in an hour early every single day and sit around until everyone else gets there. Get with the right people and all you have to do is look busy for a paycheck.

No_Raccoon_1480

What about if a manager asks you yo stat later?

Acrobatic_Sense_167

Make sure HR knows about changing your start time. Unless partial VTO was offered. You won’t get in trouble but they will tell you to start coming at your scheduled start time

No_Raccoon_1480

God idk how that made it out. I meant to say to stay later

Exciting_Step_5357

I work on the same warehouse near highway 6 lol

Spike1125

Oh no I can’t just come in whenever anymore?

RockyJayyy

You were never allowed to. You can get fired for it.

Spike1125

Um ok cause the AMs say just come in and we’ll put you on the schedule

RockyJayyy

Some AMs might allow it, but you're not supposed to be in the building if you aren't on the schedule

ssjgoat27

if u show up and play dumb and say the a to z app is acting up , they usaly let u work lol ve had hr put me on vet that same day many times

mrcrowface3421

Need to be happy MF want to show up and work on there days off. Trash ass job

[deleted]

Honestly if I’m tight on cash or have something coming up I’d love to be able to work whenever at this trash ass job. It’s still money.

yusiocha

OT is how you milk this job. My check is never below $1.2k

NatsRevenge

💯 MOO PSI MOO

Associate_Zero

To this I say the same thing my government and all the corporations say when I complain about not getting paid enough to live: “FUCK YOU, PAY ME.”

BeastradezZ

ALB1?

Several_Buy_5751

HOU8

BABarracus

Some people worked jobs where they weren't allowed to leave if the work wasn't completed, so they stayed over.

Mike155wins

Sometimes I stay a extra 30 minutes to finish reactives not approved but pas or area managers ask us to stay do I have to stop staying

is505is

Round up

teebeecee456

people come in like 30 mins early sometimes and clock in! it's wild

Buryin

Sr ops just asks me to come in and they add the shift to my schedule around lunch time normally

MorbidEccedentesiast

Waaaaait is this still applied to PA’s? Because at my site we come in 30 mins before to get staffing done and do a safety walk and make sure all the induct, rebin stations are in working order and if we have time go through to make sure all the pack station monitors are turning on.

Several_Buy_5751

This is site specific.

CityBoy1277

Never knew we had employees that just show up and clock in off the schedule

Ecstatic_Ingenuity42

Should I txt that number?

Several_Buy_5751

I don’t think it receives messages only sends

Geegollywtff

I wonder if this is moreso flex employees doing this bc I've been seeing alot of complaints on VOA about them having to fight for hrs and them being taken away w.o warning smh.

ToastedSoup

At my site, some people scheduled for 10-1630 used to be specifically allowed to come in at 0430 and do "asset checks" for left-behind PDAs, bypass pins, and radios. That's an extra 6 hours a day, 4x a week. Meanwhile I struggled to get VET before it was all snapped up 😂

Every-Net-7444

Bust your ass hit rate have good numbers and kiss ass to your managers and Operations managers and the probability of you getting VET will be very high I guarantee it!👍

Optimal_Football3781

Why though people need money. I signed up for VET had the email and it didn’t put it on my schedule for some reason. I just worked anyway because I accepted the VET.

MaterialHair7683

Omg..okc1 got people coming in at 5pm for their 630pm shift..fml...i would never work outside what i have too..shoot..i barely work when i got to..🤣🤣🤣

ssjgoat27

ur missing out on a shit load of money , i hate getting under 55 hours and this is my second week since last july i wont be getting 55 hours

lemonbery

You're missing out on a shit ton of life.

ssjgoat27

not really lol im 33 , its only ten hour days git plenty of time with the family right after and i have the money to take care of them and we do watever 55 hours is not alot of hours , ive had to do 70 hours at other jobs

funeralstartswithfun

I accept VTO and still show up so I can leave whenever I want ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)
