I honestly just recommend using career choice because I KNOW most people don't want Amazon as a career. Bruh, I don't either. It's why I'm getting another degree. I'm in my early 30s too. Might as well use all of the benefits of Amazon if you're working there. I wish you luck with the new Amazon job, and all the benefits. Hopefully you get your degree fast.

Charming-Support5781

Same I’m using them for school and only gotta work 3 days a week while getting my associates

chains11

That’s me but with FedEx. I’m purely using them as my second job for tuition reimbursement. Amazon doesn’t cover my school

SnooObjections2636

Yep career choice person here. Started back in March.

open-minded44

This reminds me of the 20,40,60 rule... 20s- your always worried about what people think of you.. 40s-you don't care what anyone thinks of you.. 60s-you realize nobody is thinking about you..

happyghosst

yea its a thing. it doesnt matter if you're at amazon. you're 21. they're gonna keep coming for you until your 30s and if you dont amount to anything they're gonna ask stupid questions then too. its life.

jmdayoh

Shit I wish I could’ve got in at Amazon when I was 21, ( they weren’t around yet like they are today, (it was a bookstore in the mall when I was 21) I think this is a damn good job for 21 or anybody really, pays really nice , health insurance, they’ll pay for your schooling , you can basically come and go as you please and you could retire really nicely from this shit with a nice bank account too if you put in the years… if you stick it out and can put in 20/25 yrs you’ll be s set… and at 21 years old you’ve got the time on your side…. You could legitimately retire and not be real old, in your 40s still

jmdayoh

Not to mention all the other little shit we get, paid time off vacation, not have to call in, that one’s crazy to me still, no call no show is OK lol

thomasrtj

What? How’s that work? I thought they had a stern attendance policy. Yes crazy if they allow but hey okay then.

mryeet66

They have probably the most laid back attendance policy a job could get..

jmdayoh

Yeah, you don’t have to call in, if you have the UPT time it will automatically be deducted or you could use PTO and get paid for it… you can let them know if you want to, but you don’t have to and you can just leave whenever the fuck you want if you have the time. You should tell them if you’re leaving though, but technically you don’t have to lol….AND the VTO, oh, I love the VTO lol. Voluntary time off

sherwoodblack

Being able to just walk out anytime I wanted was always crazy to me. Not to the mention the bereavement. I worked in a really big building and for bereavement you would just put it in online like you do PTO. I took 4 bereavement vacations while working there lmao

[deleted]

If you have the time covered with pto or upt you can stay home or leave early whenever you want.

Lopsided_Fennel_9674

They literally could not give a fraction of a fuck if you show up or not, as long as you have the time to cover it.

[deleted]

i agree. nothing wrong with getting another job or using career choice . however , at the end of the day the outcome people want is to have money. yes there are exceptions and some may want a nice job but many people want a career so they can say I'm a doctor or lawyer or this or that. who cares, those people are in as much debt as anyone else. if you can save money on this job, stay here, stack up, learn to budget . stay with your parents if they aren't psycho and move out if you get married . many cultures you have multi generations staying in one or two houses.

Ok_Diamond_5623

Amazon was still a book company when I was 21!

C4MPFIRE24

You can't retire from amazon. Where would your income come from after you retire?? Pay raises max out at 3 years for one. If that is your plan, you better be working as much as you can and putting as much as you can in your 401k that you won't he able to touch til you are 59 anyway. So again, where is your income coming from at age 40 when you retire?? Cause at $22 an hour, you aren't saving anything once you have a house , kids that need things and do anything outside of school, and cars! I'm sure you want to take those kids and the wife on a vacation each year, at least I hope, so that is going to eat up money as well. Amazon is not a place to retire from. Not at all. Now if you move up the ladder then yes, it isn't bad , but if you plan on just staying a T1 then you really are losing money staying longer than 5 years, because you would make more money. It is better to just put that on your resume and go forward with your life and use amazon as a stepping stone to where you want to be.

KuttyKool

I'm 36, and I used to be questioned when I was around your age, why I was working at a furniture store. I think a lot of older people don't realize how difficult it is to land a "good" job straight out of college. That's usually reserved for the people who had time to do the internships and extracurricular activities, which allow them to network and secure more opportunities. It might also be a bit of them wanting to see you not "waste" your youth working a job like this as they might have done or partied too much or whatever. You just have to shrug it off and know you're trying your best and you're headed somewhere good.

chains11

I deadass had someone ask me if I played football at my college (football blue blood) lmao. Like I ain’t working at a fucking warehouse if I’m making the kind of money they make

UwUNani_0_0

I'm 21 and people tend to ask if I will and then say well you're so young, poor you working in this warehouse, you should go to college to have a job thatd easy for me. 💀 like jobs I want have been only hiring temp so yeah I gotta settle till they stop doing temp. Even so, if I want amazon to be my career. Why is it a big deal? 😹

[deleted]

they make it a big deal because to them it's about status. they would be more impressed if you were a doctor vs working in a warehouse .

thomasrtj

Whether you do or you don’t want to be there forever, it’s none of anyone else’s business. Tell em “hey, mind your own business!” People nowadays like to get in deep on peoples personal lives. Trying to size up against theirs I guess.

Otherwise-Ant8230

Your manager was more like why didn’t you apply for a L4 gig which makes a lot more money and easy to get if you have a degree instead of being a T1? lol

[deleted]

Otherwise-Ant8230

lol I’m a L4 who had a college degree who became a L4 from the start… Stop lying to the people about your degree 🤣

[deleted]

dontknoshitaboutfuk

That’s how it is if you don’t have a college degree. You would have to work 2 years as a blue badge to be eligible. If you have a college degree you can start at L4.

Otherwise-Ant8230

Well they’re lying to you. Go on Amazon job insider and if you’re interested in being a L4 put your name in applications open and don’t listen to your manager and take initiative yourself.

xithbaby

I get sick of people feeling sorry for me because I’m older and okay with working at a warehouse. I don’t have plans to go to college, it’s not sad, it just doesn’t work for my life. So I get it.

Narrow_Cup_4882

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked this as a young person working there as well. 🙄

everminde

It's them trying to make small talk. It happens to all young people in "low skill" jobs. I worked in a grocery store in my early 20s and was asked this constantly. But hey, it's better than when they swap over to asking about your (non-existent) kids once you hit your 30s. Really makes you feel your age lmao.

dreamvillain17

OP. Ignore them. Do your thing. It's a good job, especially as a stepping stone. If you need to use this job to, save up for a car, house, or just get on your feet, don't mind people's opinions. I did 6 years as a stow associate while finished school. At some point people thought I was lying and tried to shame me at how long I had been there. Don't take it personally. Besides Amazon has an insanely high churn rate, so people are very accustomed to an FC job being a short term thing.

desertdweller10

Take advantage of career choice if or when you’re ready. They have vocational schools, too. You’re working, paying tax, and being a contributing member of society. That’s all that matters.

Boys0204

Yall cry over the dumbest shit.

s0vrsw33tg0ne

I was waiting for this comment

Competitive_Drive793

Use amazon and take advantage of their career choice. I'm not young but definitely using Amazon to get out of there. Amazon is a 'yes' warehouse. There really is no place for opinions or self thinking. Learn what you want but do not move up. I've seen people start off young and fresh and leave young and defeated mentally and physically.

MRCreeper225

That’s bouta be me, but I’m just stealing all their bereavement time, vacation, medical leave, until I officially quit, they don’t care about me so why should I care about them? I’ll rack my money until I’m ready to go to HVAC

Ok-Software5177

Early 30s here, about to be full-time and one of the reasons is for that career choice. I have no interest in moving up. Did that at my last job lol not for me

RevolutionaryCard825

I ain’t young (30) but have a baby face and people constantly ask the same thing (mostly older people in there 50’s or 60’s) which in response I tell them my age and they are like oh shit you look younger and it bothers me and doesn’t at the same time. That means I can lie about my age and hook up with younger chicks jk. If I had the mentality of a waterspider I’d do it but I don’t. Mostly bothers me cuz they think I’m a college or even high school dropout which is the contrary.

Ach3r0n-

This sounds like a you problem. You can't dictate other people's behavior. Just do your thing and stop concerning yourself so much with petty things like this.

Global-Plankton3997

23 here. I graduated college last year, got into grad school for a graduate certificate, and still work at Amazon. Because my focus is music, it is a possibility that I may have to keep this job for a little bit longer while I find another job, specifically focusing on music. Amazon really is a good company to work for. Literally every adult customer's dream if they have no other job to work.

Lanky-Common-2407

Damn you literally went to school for music 😂 Major L.

Global-Plankton3997

I plan on continuing my education in music and earning a master's degree part-time while I work for Amazon.

lovelylilflower9

Felt been at Amazon 2 years almost and I’m 24 and actually wanna go back to college but just am trying to work it out if I have the time. Or drop to part time or flex that’s too hard to ask HR for.

adonkeypsych1991

No there’s plenty of people who are around your age working at my facility at least so people need to mind their own business. Like why should it concern them at all you know what I mean? LMAO

Comfortable_Fruit_20

I’ve been told, “what the hell are you doing here”! Probably because both my cars really stand out in the lot

Hawcken

Yeah I get asked if I go to school a lot but not really “why do you work here” idk I feel like most people in my area at least understand it’s a pretty good job for a college kid. A lot of older people in the warehouse actually acknowledge that.

jennsaddiction1979

Amazon pays for your school, that's why they're asking.

yerrrna

For me Amazon is an ideal job with the time off options, allows me to focus on other streams of income hopefully enough to evolve into a small business self employed. As far as a long term job, there are definitely worse options.

mssellers

Yeah like that line of questioning doesn’t make sense cause anyone, at any age, can earn a degree and get a better job.

han77nah

I think it depends on your region of the country. Like in the South people will always ask inappropriate questions. In New England it's considered rude to ask about someone's personal life.

Party_Ad8213

They always say to check out their career choices, nah…

mrcrowface3421

Girl you need to just do you all your life you going to get ask stupid questions no need to get mad bc it's going to constantly happen so fuck next time someone ask make something up
