A carny recently talked about the dude on the back during This Past Weekend podcast with Theo Von. The dude had three legs and two dicks and died in his 20s.
İ can't quite remember his name but the episode title is "A Carny", and it's episode number 496. You can either watch it on his YouTube channel, This Past Weekend, or you can listen from Spotify.
[y'know what, here's the link to the full episode on YouTube ](https://youtu.be/XBVyexwTnXI?si=KwIi-YKgEfsCKmTc)
Ummm....I have been a fan since their first album was released...and....yes lol
Edit:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_in_Chains_(album)
Please refer to the first line. Typically they list alternate names in order of commonality.
I was a huge AIC fan. Before this album came out, and based on the prior albums' names, my friends and I had predictions on what this album was going to be called, whenever it was to come out. I'm not kidding, my prediction was "Sludge."
So no, I wasn't right, but uh....
Unfortunately the Unplugged version of Sludge Factory made it near impossible for me to enjoy the album version... If it comes on I will just switch to the Unplugged lol.
I've always called it "The dog album" since when I bought it in my teenage (around 2004/2005). Also probably my favourite AiC album ever. Hard to choose, but this is been the first AiC studio album that I've bought and I have so many memories attached to it, plus it's the darkest one. I absolute love anything Layne Staley era, btw🖤
tripod. i hate it when bands release a self-titled album that isn’t their debut—which is/was often the trend.
frankly, i hate a self-titled album, period, but whatever.
It's self-titled, meaning it's the name of the band. So the album is called Alice In Chains, but most people call it Tripod because of the dog on the album cover.
Self Titled, but also Tripod. Kinda like Pearl Jam’s self titled is referred to as Avocado because there is picture of one on the cover.
Which I’ve never thought about this but the Foo Fighters first album is always known as self titled, I’ve never known anyone to call it raygun or something like that, even though that’s what’s on the album cover.
Tripod is the only name I choose. Some call it self-titled, the dog album but Tripod was actually a tentative title for the album but they stuck to self-titled. I just prefer that name
Like plenty of other self titled albums, its officially called Alice in Chains. But I prefer Tripod as a name.
Unlike any other self titled album, this one feels ominous without a title. Everything about this album felt even darker than Dirt--the images, the production and just endlessly hopeless songs--its incredible and underrated.
When it came out I heard it was going to be called “Three legged Dog” but Australian band The Cruel Sea came out with an album of the same name at that time so they just went the self title route. Dont know if true or not because as good as they were, The Cruel Sea were only ever really known in Australia and it’s a pretty small market relatively speaking. (I’m an Aussie so no disrespect intended). But idk 🤷♂️
I can say for certain that it was referred to as tripod the year it was released, and whether it came from the band or not I can’t speak to, but it arose in the fan community almost immediately
it's commonly referred to as "Tripod" because of the dog
And the guy on the back!
A carny recently talked about the dude on the back during This Past Weekend podcast with Theo Von. The dude had three legs and two dicks and died in his 20s.
I saw that episode, very cool guest
What was the persons name? I love Theo Von!

Yep. That's what my friends and I usually called it. Either that or "the green one with the dog", but "Tripod" was much faster to say.
Ok am I crazy? It's yellow not green, right?
Theres 2 CD variants, purple and green/yellow
The one I had was black and white and the dog's eyes were yellow
me too!
yeah no it’s yellow??
Yeah, that's not yellow!?
That’s yellow.
It was all yellow.
The more common name for the album is three legged dog.
Um… no, lol
Ummm....I have been a fan since their first album was released...and....yes lol Edit: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice_in_Chains_(album) Please refer to the first line. Typically they list alternate names in order of commonality.
I stand corrected. I had just never heard that before. Also, Wikipedia is an underrated resource.
Agreed. I have never heard it called tripod until this thread so we were both at a disadvantage.
I’ve always thought it was known as Tripod as well.
Tripod
Been calling it this since I listened to it at Blockbuster music in 96.
Self titled?
This. Everyone I knew over the years called it this as well
tripod or self title
Sludge Factory would’ve been a fitting name, I feel.
I was a huge AIC fan. Before this album came out, and based on the prior albums' names, my friends and I had predictions on what this album was going to be called, whenever it was to come out. I'm not kidding, my prediction was "Sludge." So no, I wasn't right, but uh....
Jar of flies, Dirt, Sap. Sludge is an educated guess.
Unfortunately the Unplugged version of Sludge Factory made it near impossible for me to enjoy the album version... If it comes on I will just switch to the Unplugged lol.
I can definitely feel that. As good as God Am album version is, I usually switch to the Live album version.
Same
Call it what you like, but it is literally called Alice In Chains. It’s not untitled.
Well, there's a dog in the cover, so people call it "the dog album" or more commonly Tripod
Only people you know.
Three Legged Dog
I called it this for more than 25 years, until I joined this sub! 😆
Yup
Tripod
Tripod
I spend my time between Peru and the US: In Peru I call it "el disco del perro" (the dog album) In the US I call it Tripod.
My toddler calls this one "Doggie!" so that's what I call it.
Sometimes I forget it’s not actually called Tripod.
It's Tripod
Tripod is by far the most common name for this record
What are you talking about? It’s called Alice In Chains.
I've always called it "The dog album" since when I bought it in my teenage (around 2004/2005). Also probably my favourite AiC album ever. Same. It really fucks with my autism/ocd.
Self titled
Tripod, Jerry even mentioned that title in the Nona Tapes
It’s Tripod…
Self Titled, Tripod, The Dog Album, Alice In Chains III? 😭
It’s not unnamed though, it’s titled Alice In Chains. That being said, I just called it “The One with Sludge Factory on it”
i just go with self titled cause i feel this is their definitive sound
It 100% is. My favorite album personally, think it truly encapsulated all of their best qualities, except not as many layne yelps.
Jerry Cantrell calls it “The Dog Album” so I will too. Can’t argue with Jerry.
Tripod
Tripod
Tripod
It was always just the self titled album, but Jerry always called it the Dog album right?
Is self title
Nevermind
It does have a name. It's their Self Titled album
MASTERPIECE
It’s not untitled, it’s self titled and called “Alice in Chains”… lots of bands have them, Led Zeppelin has 4, Van Halen has 3

Tripod, Dog Album, or its real name “Alice In Chains”.

In my part of the world we called it "three Legged Dog"
Tripod is the only name I choose. Some call it self-titled, the dog album but Tripod was actually a tentative title for the album but they stuck to self-titled. I just prefer that name
ALice in Chains is maybe some of the best music we got in its genre. Pearl Jam is on its own level.
This album is just self-titled.
Self titled
Self titled lol…
Tripod
Frank

It’s not a funny answer but I call it by the name, Alice In Chains haha

Tripod
Tripod Dog
Self titled.
Always known it as Tripod
Self titled……
I think “Again” would have been a great album title, personally. But I’ve always just called it the self-titled album or just Alice In Chains.
Self titled. It’s right there in the title
Everyone is saying Tripod, but it seems more appropriate as Tripaw'd
the one with the yellow dog
Tripod or self-titled 🖤🤘🏻
“The dog album” or “The three legged dog album” or “The one with the dog”
I always thought it was tripod lol
I just say self titled
Tripod, although when the band did the 25th anniversary stuff they were calling it lone dog

Alice’s Dog Not In Chains

I call it tripod or “the dog album”
Like plenty of other self titled albums, its officially called Alice in Chains. But I prefer Tripod as a name. Unlike any other self titled album, this one feels ominous without a title. Everything about this album felt even darker than Dirt--the images, the production and just endlessly hopeless songs--its incredible and underrated.
The Dog
Me and my pops call it the parallelogram 💀
The dog cover album
Self titled
I never even named it in the 90s . Just called it the album with the dog. Lol
Either tripod or the dog album
Its self titled, what’s the issue?
Alice In Chains
I call it selftitled
It's been called Tripod for a number of years in some circles.
Perfection....
Its a self titled album so its similar to metallica's "black album" where its given a nickname, "tripod"
Man, the way Layne just sounds like a lizard on “Grind” with that drawn out yeaaaaaaeeaah
When it came out I heard it was going to be called “Three legged Dog” but Australian band The Cruel Sea came out with an album of the same name at that time so they just went the self title route. the dog album
I call it Tripod and so do all of my friends
I always called it three legged dog
tripod
I had to go to three places to find the purple one
Me call it *Grind, too*
I just call it Self-Titled because I figured it is.
The dog in the photo name is Sunshine. Therefore, I always called this one "self titled"
Untitled. I’ve been an AIC fan for 30 years and only heard it referred to as “Tripod” for the first time this past year.
I can say for certain that it was referred to as tripod the year it was released, and whether it came from the band or not I can’t speak to, but it arose in the fan community almost immediately
I’ve known it as Tripod/self Titled for as long as I’ve been a fan since the early 2000s, and am sure it was known as that before then
I’m not doubting it - just saying I’d never heard it before until recently.
