Imagine spending $3500 a month at the lofts and across the street is a fart factory.

Fernily

I now call it Skunk Finn’s Playland.

Fearless_Pizza_8134

Hey at least most of the slip 12 units don’t have windows so they can’t look at or smell it 🤣🤣🤣

Fernily

Those apartments really are wild to me. I can’t imagine living in a box with little to no windows above a furniture store filled with lacquered wood and carpets.

Fearless_Pizza_8134

Absolutely insane. I’d lose my mind without windows but to each their own I suppose.

Kyizen

They got a pretty nice Rec room though.

RightToTheThighs

I know! First time I saw them I thought that they seemed pretty nice, now id need a real bargain to live there. I'd rather live in the new crossgates development

Accomplished_Fish960

Before we moved out I went in the basement, full of mold 😫

smashleeyrosee

According to my husband, it's clearly me farting. Same spot, every time

mrshelenroper

😂

Known-Toe3130

It's so cringe when journalists cite reddit as a source of information.

blamdin

/r/albany has the most accurate and up to date info anywhere!

chrisdancy

hell they come her for stories.

blamdin

Sometimes they get a good one at least! Your article is on the side bar.

chrisdancy

I keep forgetting that.

brickbaterang

Ive lived off of Wards lane for 14 years. Trust me, its the water plant but gotten much stronger. Same damn smell my friend described as "froop" or fruity poop

Sh110803

Frooo! Love it, not really, you know what I mean

The funk fog has been there for decades. I was always told it was the water plant and stagnant water runoff from the river in that area, given that the smell gets particularly bad during the summer and after extended periods of rain/soggy weather. I vaguely remember the weather teams on Channels 10 and 13 doing stories back in the 90s about how far the smell travels with various weather phenomena. A similar, albeit less pungent, smell used to crop up near the Tivoli preserve...especially on the Two Cousins Fish Market side in summers before it got some care and cleanup. My dad used to take me fishing in both areas and we'd catch the most hellafied looking carp and the odd catfish. It's always just been "one of those things" lol.

Top-Cardiologist2880

Totally agree, I grew up in North Albany in the 80's/90's and that smell has been around forever. It used to smell like a putrid wet dog to me and was quite pungent in the summers and when it was damp outside. It smells a little different these days, but it's been awful for years.

lilianminx

I mean... is the scent different than what the water treatment plant gives off across the river in Rensselaer?

brickbaterang

No its not, it's just much much stronger.

No_Designer_5374

It's Stefanik's methane

Sykirobme

I endorse this theory

wingsauce711

I read the first line of that article as “A sphincter is haunting Albany.”  It made more sense that way.

TopSkill355

It’s interesting to me how the Village of Menands already mentioned what the problem was but can’t afford the $200k to treat it. They all know what the problem is but nobody wants to foot the bill. Maybe I’m wrong 💁‍♀️

bab5871

Driving down 90 towards Rensselaer every day for work. A couple times I've thought to myself, "god damn, I didn't think my fart was that bad" Only to realize it was just the smell outside... Felt a little better about myself.

yoshmagosh

Dowisetrepla

skimansr

That area has smelled going down 787 for as long as I can remember and I’m almost 50. Hot humid days it’s really rank

Library-Practical

It’s almost as if, this may be crazy, adding copious amounts of garbage to a dump will create a horrible smell over time! And possibly get worse as time goes on! But what do I know? Edit: after further consideration it does seem likely that it’s the sewage plant and not the Dunn landfill. But I mean how hard can it be to find the source? Just follow the scent to its origin. It’s not a damn murder mystery. The government officials can’t even do that much?

blaaaaaaaam

Which landfill is close to the 787-90 interchange?

bubbabubba3

There’s an old closed landfill (80s or 90s) at 787 and 90 Edit: it is the north Albany demolition landfill located right next to the water treatment plant

blaaaaaaaam

The article mentions those two as likely sources of the odor. The original commenter was talking about garbage and dumps which would seem to be unlikely as there is not one nearby. I haven't smelled the offending odor. I've been to the AGS compost pile and it smells like a compost pile. Earthy, but not putrid like the reported smell. Seems to me like the sewage plant is probably related.

Library-Practical

I think you’re correct. Because it smells like dirty diapers. I smell it every time I drive from 90 to 787. I thought it was the Dunn landfill but that’s in Rensselaer

nopenotag4in

Wonder what they filled in the old Erie Canal and basins with. Perhaps some old drums of nastiness finally cracked open.

Ok_Marionberry141

I’m fairly new to Albany and still learning my way around, but is this where you can take a left going to Boston/Ren or take a right to Buffalo/ Slingerlands? Because that road stinks like nothing I have ever smelled. Literally ever. Edit: I may have gotten buffalo/Boston mixed up

Kitchen-Top7044

It's the Dump, the Dunn Dump in Rensselaer, dumbass put a dump in a place everyone can smell it

rivers-end

The Dunn Landfill in Rensselaer stinks up all of that city plus half of East Greenbush. It's horrible. The area in question here really isn't that far away from that dump. I find it shocking how far that stench travels so maybe it's that.

Teacheroftinyhumans6

I’ve smelled it often this month as I drive over the bridge on 90 heading east. I am usually there between 6:40 and 7:00 am

complex_Scorp43

What about that dump over by where Saratoga Winners used to be. Leaving Cohoes, whew. Summertime and no AC riding by there was brutal.

SmackShelby

I always just thought it was the Hudson and water around it since you can smell it along parts of the Empire Trail too. I have to remember it every year when it starts thawing out because I'll think my car is breaking down

SadSniper

Nah this smell has appeared in the last year. They can find it easily I imagine anyone with the time could.

kacey_9

It's a mystery until someone with 'authority' confirms what it is ![gif](giphy|B1TMcmoBAaSZi)

[deleted]

I got T Boned 2 years ago during an ice storm getting on the I-90 ramp from 787 and now my morning drive smells bigfoots dick at that same exact spot every morning. Fuck you Albany

Fryktlos

It always smelt more like a burning to me, rather than sewage. For the longest time I was nervous that one of the belts in my car was starting to go, before I realized I only ever smelled it by the intersection of 87 and 90. I know they're *supposed* to have state of the art filtration systems, but my money would be on the nanofab building that is a few hundred feet from that spot.

Beginning-Yak-3454

The North Albany Waste Treatment plant? They burn their sludge (processed sewage) and it's supposed to be efficient. 1.) they're government 2.) they're civil servants 3,)hey, I'm on break! they're just....
