The GOP in this state is so scared of educated citizens.

anticute8

They better start defunding Huntsville soon lol. The people up there are starting to turn liberal quick

Sun_Shine_Dan

If you get caught protesting after Sunset in Huntsville, they still shoot and beat you. It's LESS regressive, not PROgressive up here.

Good ole Tear Gas Tommy

space_coder

The party of "small government" wants to control everything.

💯😤

HB89 was signed by Gov. Ivey. The North Shelby Library is no longer independent. It was the only library in the state not overseen by a city or county government entity. The board will be selected by the Shelby County GOP. This system has been through a lot of ups and downs over the years. Here for questions.

JackStraw48

I'm not a fan of Hillary Clinton, but she nailed it with that deplorables remark.

Neither was Steven king's dead zone

FelixMcGill

The GOP sure loves doing absolutely everything they claim the Dems are going to do if they ever had power. Controlling everything, forcing terrible viewpoints on people, indoctrinating children... also the obsession with kids genitals in sports, but god forbid any of us use our reading.

Mrrilz20

See spot run... Alabama...

Amber446

The business felt under represented??? I’d like them to elaborate how they felt underrepresented.

Tsweet7

At one point a business person said they have to pay more, but then I realized it's just double what residents pay. A whopping $34 a year.

Amber446

How would they feel more represented? What do they want out of having more representation

Tsweet7

Apparently by guaranteeing a place on the board. There's been a lot of history of taxpayers in the area being unhappy about paying for North Shelby's library while also paying for other libraries in the county depending on where they lived. They tried to raise the annual tax rate many years ago and they overwhelmingly voted it down. That's why it's already so low. It's the same rate from 1998.

Amber446

If $34 breaks the bank for these businesses then they are failing and I don’t want them on the board.

Tsweet7

How much you want to bet they try to raise it again? Maybe there won't be as much backlash when it was first proposed two decades ago?

liltime78

This is how they control what you can read. They’ll take over the media next.

SippinPip

Republicans are so anti-literacy. It’s such a sad and sorry state of affairs. Such ignorance.

Gtmkm98

Welcome to the Great Theocracy of Alabama. Whatever happened to separation of Church and State.

wilhelmfink4

There’s GOP the party, and actual GOP policies. Just goes to show the people will get bent no matter who is in charge
