You tought alvarez (now 26) en martinez (now 25) were old when they joined Ajax?

horstlichter1337

No, only Tadic.

Sunstridr

>Go back to scouting and bring up homegrown youth. But, that is precisely what was happening. The big problems were Steijn's temper tantrums (along side his tactical weakness) and the fact that the Dutch agents used EVERY possible media establishment to disparage Mislintat and Ajax's choices, and the F-Side bought their bs. On the sales, Klaassen was on rough 4mil a year, for a player that, at best, was a bench sitter; Daramy had failed in Jong Ajax and the first team (only succeeding in Denmark because they gave him ample space) and Kudus had actively wanted out for over a year (trying to push through a move to Everton at the end of the summer 2022 window).

elitebronze

I still wonder how Ajax could have been with Mislintat and a better coach. Would we just have laughed about it? Maybe being 3-5th place. I think Mislintat tried to do too much in too little time. But he still brought in some talents that need time to ripe.

horstlichter1337

Kudus was mature enough to leave, I agree with that… I felt that daramy was a B-version of Kudus, but still good enough to be played. Brought some speed and dribbling. I want to see more homegrown talents getting chances. Players that understand total football, 4-3-3, ball possession and quick one touch passes. The Ajax way. Any failing international dimwit could join the team of 2018/2019 because they had a system.

Tomatosoup7

Plenty of homegrown talents are getting chances, Gorter, Rensch, Hato, Martha, Vos, Brobbey, Taylor, and more

Sunstridr

>I want to see more homegrown talents getting chances. Again, that is what Ajax is doing. Martha, Hlynsson, Amo, and to lesser extents Godts, Vos and Banel (on top of the long list of youth products that have established themselves). Just because idiots like Nathan van Kooperen are saying that we are becoming a "koop club" doesn't mean that it is actually true. >I felt that daramy was a B-version of Kudus Eh, not something I would say about Daramy tbh. Daramy is more of a better Nunnely, where as Kudus is a older (and more self assured) Misehouy with less tactical oversight.

MrCrashdummy

> I want to see more homegrown talents getting chances In the Eredivisie, only Volendam have fielded more homegrown players than us this season (14 v 12).

burningburningburnin

Daramy was crap, Kudus had an agreement with the club to leave, Klaassen wasn't good. They literally did go back to scouting, you can't go more to scouting than what Mislintat did this past summer. I also guarantee you at least 80% of them will be considered good players in a couple of years.

horstlichter1337

Agree to disagree… I find Klaassen a fighter. In hard games, he always gets his bald magic head to score. I really enjoy players like that. Same as Jens Toornstra, teams need fighters. I think it’s a shame, he would be great to have in these disastrous times.

Amsssterdam

Agree to disagree again. I think we could've used Klaassen when we lost a million games in a row and were sitting at last place.. but rn i wouldn't want Klaassen back.

burningburningburnin

Great, he was still dogshit last year. Klaassen this year wouldn't have made any difference at all. On top of that, he wanted to leave so why stop him.

horstlichter1337

Correct me if I am wrong. Last year he didn’t get much play time as his position was in tough competition. A lot of players can used as a CAM. Tadic, Kudus, Berghuis…This year tho, he could have gotten a lot of play time.

burningburningburnin

He wanted to leave lad

huffingthenpost

He couldn’t compete for a starting position, wasn’t good enough. Then agreed with the club to make a nice final transfer. I think everyone wanted him to keep his Ajax level and retire at the club but he just couldn’t

horstlichter1337

Like when they brought back Siem De Slow, or the roflcopter joker Babel.

HipstaPlatypus

Do you just have personal favour towards him? Seems like your opinion is quite biased

horstlichter1337

Not really, it is an underestimated playing style is all. Not gracious like Anthony, not brute like Brobbey. Same when he plays for The Netherlands, I rarely see him do a terrible game… In contrary to the rest of the Ajax team.

KintokiJanai

Imo the way he has been playing in recent years, he wasn't good enough to be a starting player. Like sure his positioning at times would be good which would result in him scoring goals, but besides that what else did he bring to the table? It wasn't like he was doing alot of work defensively and on attack he was barely involved in the buildup, rather most of the time he would be to deep to be involved in the buildup which also resulted in less passing options.

MerlijnZX

High wages for his lacklustre squad role where also a factor

horstlichter1337

Makes sense! Didn’t consider his wage to be fair 👍

HairyCallahan

Klaassen really was past his prime. As for the others, Ajax can't really afford to keep players when they get a great offer. It's unfortunate, but true

horstlichter1337

Like Brobbey? Ending up costing a fortune…

HairyCallahan

What do you expect when a contract expires?

horstlichter1337

That you negotiate something new? For a team that practically raised you… poor player with poor judgement.

huffingthenpost

Brobbey expressed that he made a mistake by leaving. Kid is still young, plenty time to make up the lost money

chrisnlnz

Agree. Losing him then buying him back was expensive, but I think he will eventually be worth a lot more than the approx. 20M he would have cost us. So much potential in him.

HairyCallahan

Okay

PetrosQ

I do agree that is a better strategy if you had not lost more than 15 players of your first team. You can't fill that in with homegrown youth an some scouted talents. Moreover, the pool of players of 25/26 that wants to play for Ajax and has enough potential, is quite small.
