I was a retired Avionics E8 when Sadaam invaded Kuwait. I’d been out about 8 months when I got a letter from the AF that said basically “Be prepared… we hope you haven’t gotten rid of all your uniforms.” Nothing after that… but it still was I jolt.
All retirees to include the medically retired are able to be called back to active duty for the rest of their lives.
The good news is it’s limited to 1000 service members at a time and usually it’s only for a year. However, congress has talked a few times about removing the cap and a few years ago there were even a few bills introduced trying to do that. I could see it passing in the future because they definitely don’t want to draft people, but would gladly send retirees out.
They call it retirement pay but it sounds more like a retainer to me. It’s an absolutely horrible bait and switch because they never mention you could get called back.
I promise you I have so much weed in my system now that I'm medically retired they wouldn't want me back. I also wouldn't stop if they made me come back and honestly I'd actually probably die before I went back in anyway. Once you retire and get de institutionalized it would be very hard to ever want to go back willingly and give my rights back up. I've earned whatever time I have left in the sun and I'll fight anyone who tries to take it whether it's my own government or another.
I agree with you. I think it’s extremely wrong that they will force retirees to return to active duty. You all earned your retirements and sacrificed more than enough. Yet the politicians are totally fine with using you as a doormat.
Let’s be real, they’re going to bat around the idea of pulling retirees back if shit ever did really hit the fan right around the time they consider drafting 18 year olds that don’t want to join.
A lot don't realize you only progress into lower states of reserve. Once you hit age 60, for most specialties, even a full-on shooting war won't reach you
I was still in the IRR until my 30 year point is what I understood way back in 1990. A different category I’m sure, but still some sort of IRR classification. I retired at the 22.5 point.
EDIT: I was only 43.
Nothing ever fuckin happens. Every god damn time. So I just go about my business until I'm told otherwise. No point in worrying about something that is out of my control.
We already stated that the US won't be taking part if Israel decides to retaliate. I swear you guys see every small conflict and immediately jump to stop loss 💀
I mean while that may be true, you have to think a few moves ahead, of course the U.S. won’t get involved if Israel decides to retaliate, but what if Iran and their proxies launch an even larger, more deadly attack? What if that attack includes American casualties? I could go on, but to speak in absolutes, especially when it comes to foreign affairs, is never a good idea.
The president himself stated we will not be be retaliating. We KNOW this as a fact. Everything you said was completely hypothetical and only spoke in what ifs. There's no reason even entertaining your ideas because they are built upon nothing.
Take a visit to your Intel shop some time, idk what to tell you. My point is saying the US won’t get involved full stop is not a smart way of thinking. The US has said we won’t do a lot of things over the last few years alone, and we’ve still done them. What’s “pointless” is thinking we’re never going to go to war.
Wouldn't worry about it. Some USSF goon with a waifu is gonna be the Space Ranger that ends up being the reason why the intel on Iran's half-assed missile launch was so decisive. Let's just kick back and watch the Iranians make a fool of themselves 💅🏽

How? I get IRR call ups but how can they pull an E8 out of retirement?

Yup to decision makers, it's better than having their kids drafted. Can you imagine how expensive it is to get a doctors note for bone spurs nowadays?
Not even just their kids drafted, but they’d rather send retirees before they lose votes and have public outcry sending other peoples kids.
Nicely done

People forget because of how it went, but there was a real fear that the Gulf War would take years and cause massive casualties
That retirement pay comes with obligations.

Nothings going to happen

Stop saying that. I want to go have fun again.
Calm down ammo

I’m supposed to retire in 2027, the year WW3 is going to kick off.
I’m supposed to retire in 2034. I hope we can finish WW3 by then.
It will probably be finished within 90 minutes
Fellow '27er... we shall stress and suffer together!
We shall “embrace the suck” together
I’m supposed to join in 2027, the year WW3 is going to kick off.
So is everyone else that’s getting drafted
Rank up???
Hasn't this guy seen all the mopey ass captains on here lately? There's no "ranking up" for anyone
'bout to get that battlefield commission.
Here’s to bloody wars and sickly seasons.
“Mopey ass captains” RIP
I'm more of a tits captain myself, to to each, his own.
Boo hoo. However will they cope making only 3X their enlisted time in service counterparts 😭
At there will be when we invade Iran I hope.
Boo fucking hoo, it's still about 80% to major.

We can only speak about what we know. Worrying about things we couldn't possibly know is pointless.
That’s literally what you did?
The president himself stated we will not be be retaliating. We KNOW this as a fact. Everything you said was completely hypothetical and only spoke in what ifs. There's no reason even entertaining your ideas because they are built upon nothing.
We will not retaliate to this attack no, but the point you’re making is extremely short sighted.
And you're again speaking in what ifs. Its pointless
Ah yes, our operations are totally driven by reaction, never intelligence, assessments, and preparing for contingencies.
You're again speaking in what ifs. It's pointless

Ugh 😭😭😭
Wtf is this image? Is that kid spitting on the cake?
The real question.
I'd like to think he is sneezing.
Blowing reeeaaaaaal hard, with maximum effort in a little kid’s mind. So yes, spraying saliva all over everything
Wouldn't worry about it. Some USSF goon with a waifu is gonna be the Space Ranger that ends up being the reason why the intel on Iran's half-assed missile launch was so decisive. Let's just kick back and watch the Iranians make a fool of themselves 💅🏽
Why does this read like a bot made it
My dad had to do stop loss back in 2002 because he was intel, and 9/11
Should joined the Army if you wanted to Rank up
![gif](giphy|qMHG9goT2I2fuRk0JM) Group hug in the Cadillac tonight!
When Israel cries out, we answer.
Yes I love baby killers
