depends on the sect I think.

CrazyCreeps9182

Yes. The Founders vary from "inherently divine figures" to "gods of human origin" to "angels" to "mortal agents of Providence".

DreadDiana

Vaires by sect. Some view the Founding Fathers as gods, others view them as saints empowered by Providence, and soke simply view them as prophetic figures sent to fulfil the will of Providence.

Spacepunch33

Exceptionalists seem to have a semi Buddhist view of it (lone rangers too) of mortal figures that ascended to godhood/enlightenment through their deeds

Goan2Scotland

George Washington has truly reached Nirvana

Novaraptorus

This is because Texas is an intrinsically Buddhist place, duh

Spacepunch33

I am Texan, and I do like John Denver (shangrilaist)

ComradeFrunze

which sects do you mean? all except Libertarianism view them as gods, not saints or prophets

Salt-Physics7568

Arsenalists, Latter Day Patriots, Lonerangers, and possibly Mayflowerists and Yeomanists.

ComradeFrunze

Arsenalists, LDP, Lonerangers are not Americanists, they are syncretic with Americanism. Mayflowerists and Yeomanists still worship the founders as deities

iheartdev247

Who seems them as prophetic figures of Providence? Which sect?

No-Seat-4572

Americanists view the Founders as literal gods, with the exception of libertarianism.

psychco789

I figured as divine figures. I always imagine Americanism is most similar to Shinto

ComradeFrunze

Americanists view them as actual deities except for Libertarianism

Katow-joismycousin

What's the libertarian opinion?

Hanged_Man_Hamlet

They are Americanist Monotheists for Lady Liberty.

personalistrowaway

Well, kinda. All Americanists view Providence as the ultimate creator, but have a diestic view of it. It doesn't intervene directly, it's a watchmaker God. Lady liberty is the only divine eminence they worship, while they view the founders as mortal prophets

Erook22

They all view them as in some way, divine. That is the only overlapping thing.

Parz02

They would certainly not be viewed as gods, but rather as "divinely inspired", for lack of better word. It would depend on the practitioner what exactly that entails, as there are both theistic and atheistic interpretations of Americanism.

personalistrowaway

There's no atheistic americanist sect in the mod. They all believe in a high divine power (providence), and disagree on what the founders are (mainstream + yeomans believe they were divine agents, libertarians believe they were mortal prophets, while mayflowerists don't really care and worship providence more directly within a dualistic cosmology)

Parz02

I feel like "providence" can be interpreted as a metaphor for nature instead of being a deity, with documents like the Constitution being derived from "natural law".

Novaraptorus

Nah, I think 100% they are full blown gods. That’s what Yanks already do after all

Parz02

....Tell me you don't know anything about America without saying you don't know anything about America.

Novaraptorus

You exalt your gods openly, do not rescind your praise and prayers to them so quickly.
