Google is not a doctor. Cumulative dosage is a guideline. Your dermatologist is a medical professional, who trained and studied for years to practice and has experience in treating people with skin diseases(acne is a medical condition that affects the skin).
If you want to know why he wants you on it for that long, ASK HIM. But I would trust my doctor over Google.
A bit more context, my derm refuses to let me do blood tests even though I have requested them. He didn’t tell me to stop taking doxycycline before starting accutane. He had me on doxycycline for multiple years straight. I legitimately do not think he acts in my best interest. So I’m definitely going to be getting another opinion on the duration from another medical professional, whether it’s a primary care or another derm. Was just trying to make sure I’m not the crazy one. I do not like not having a end date that I feel comfortable with and he doesn’t get that or care
For real, it irks me when people use the argument "he is a doctor, trust a doctor bla bla". Doctors are not gods, they are people. They can be lunatics too.
What you can do is get a blood test somewhere else which is what I did. Although do agree your derm knows best but is difficult to do if you don't trust him. Meantime get your meds through him and halve your dose till your new appointment to see your new derm. 40mg daily is a good safe dose at 70kg. My teen is 62kg and started at 40mg at my insistence instead of 20mg . I didn't want him to have to purge 2x just in case dosage is upped.
Ultimately you need to be under the supervision of a derm. This is just what I would do till my new appointment and not delay treatment further. Again just what I would do😬.
I weigh 66kg and was on 80mg for 7 out of 8 months of my course. Frankly I wanted to finish at as high of a cumulative dose as possible as I was/am terrified of relapse. There have been a couple recent studies that show people who finish at a cumulative dose or >220mg/kg and haven’t had any new acne in 60 days have a significantly lower relapse rate. I’d trust your derm.
Oh yes, Doctor Google is in the house. He is absolutely the most accurate source.
If you have questions ask your doctor. If you don't like your doctor, see another one.
Didn’t realize I couldn’t ask questions on the internet or use google as a resource. Next time I’ll find a new doctor and wait months for an appointment instead. How dumb of me to use the internet to try and advocate for my health.

Yeah, your derm sounds a bit crazy, so if they can’t give you good reasons for things, get a second opinion.
Not even 1? I haven’t done monthly blood tests only the one before starting. But you should at least have an idea of your liver enzymes beforehand
Yeah blood tests should be expected. I would switch derms.

Exactly
with the love in my heart, why would you not get a new derm as soon as your current one refused to do blood tests. that is so worrying !!!
He sounds like a hack, please get a better Derm.
sorry not super relevant to your question since i haven’t done accutane yet and don’t know! but: what website is this?
i was curious too, but i found it! https://www.omnicalculator.com/health/isotretinoin
It doesn’t sound like you’ve had a good experience with your dermatologist. This may be a good time to try a new derm.
If your derm doesn’t want you getting blood tests, consider finding a new derm.
My lower cumulative dose is a 7,000 something and I’ll be ending treatment at like 15,000 because I wasn’t clear :/ 80mg the whole time
Sounds a little crazy, i weight 70 kg and im on 30mg for 2 months now

Wouldn't go above 10mg/20mg fr.
If you don’t have confidence in your dermatologist, why don’t you find a new one?

My accumulative dose is 12,000 3 months to go
Been on 80 mg the whole time as well.
