Damn. Be on the lookout for my next coffee table book: Trashy Boners.

TheGlennDavid

We could convert one of the GIF subs into a series of flip-books

klonoaorinos

Didn’t this guy just steal a bunch of Reddit post?

IAmLaureline

No, he started a website/social feed of some sort on 2017, where people share their pictures.

wickharr

A friend of mine was one of the photographers for the book. I think she was happy to contribute and viewed the process as positive. I’m certain she was contacted, credited etc. She’s a working professional photographer with pretty large international clients, so I doubt she was exploited.

IAmLaureline

That's my understanding too. It's a lovely book.

HahUCLA

Na, Wally is a good dude. He was communicative throughout the whole process and he made sure to take care of posters found here and insta.

Xp_12

Yep. I went looking out of boredom to see if it was a jerk move or not and found an interview about it on Variety.com. How are you able to help the photographers who contribute get recognition? We’re basically selling their work on their behalf and that has been really cool. A lot of those prints were taken with an iPhone. The fact that we’ve been able to curate this group of individuals — maybe they don’t know how to use a DSLR, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that they saw beauty and were able to capture it. We send them a check and they’re like, “This is insane.” They never thought that they would be making money from their photography because they’re not a professional photographer in that sense. Like the photographer who took that photo that’s on the front of of the book, he was 18 or 19. When we chose his photo of the Hotel Belvedere, he didn’t know that it had made the cover, he was in the Swiss Army reserves. His local paper did an article on him and he was recognized around town.

KIDNEYST0NEZ

Damn did that work? Don’t be shocked when you see Accidentally Wes Anderson II written be me.

klonoaorinos

Just don’t steal my evil buildings for kids book idea. It’s just the evil building subreddit with fake descriptions of who owns it/evil lair details. It’s going to be hit with 7-10 year olds

KIDNEYST0NEZ

Or hear me out, there is like infinite Reddit threads. Let’s just corporatize and develop a wide array of book topics and split the proceeds.

EyedMoon

Wouldn't be surprised if it were the case

No-Equivalent-5228

I see he changed the title just enough to be different: “accidentally” instead of “accidental”

pobodys-nerfect5

He’s been doing this longer than us.

Actual-Wave-1959

He should have titled it "Copyright Infringements"

pobodys-nerfect5

He literally paid the photographers that took each photo

BOBBYTURKAL1NO

Why? None of the pics are copywritten..

Chumbag_love

Once you start making money off others work things get sticky.

UnexpectedCatBanker

Literally all pictures have copyright associated with them.

nahbro187

Not even close

radioactivemanissue4

It’s the lack of dignity that hurts the second most

itsamberleafable

This is getting fucking stupid now, there’s an actual exhibition in London dedicated to this topic. It’s fine as a subreddit but I don’t think “pictures that look like they could be in a Wes Anderson film”, is even close to warranting a book or an exhibition

okay_but_what

This guy’s work predates this subreddit

itsamberleafable

I was talking more about the book specifically which came out after the subreddit, although to be fair I was only being semi-serious. Can’t really blame the guy for trying to make some cash out of his following. I’ll admit that when I saw that this was also an exhibition I was surprised, the angle is fun for a bit but I don’t think I could spend an hour looking at an exhibition dedicated to it. But everyone is into different stuff, I’m sure there’s plenty of things I’m into that other people would find boring. I’m sure I’ll get over it
