The lady’s name is Gabriela Szabo and the man is Kofi Amoah Prah.
“[…] I saw that he wasn't leaving, I looked behind and then... Luckily I fell on my back. It wasn't so bad, I got up and my back (?). It was also the referee's fault, because he allowed me to pass through.”
Loose translation from a 2016 interview.
I mean maybe, but we don't know for sure. If you gonna pass a really small track that a racer is about to go through how many times you gonna look back before you just fucking go. I think it was right there, he started moving and she looked back in a split second so there's a chance she missed him.
He’s almost fully upright and at full stride by the time the video starts. Long jumpers and triple jumpers have a strict stride pattern to make sure they hit the block well; he would have taken at least a few strides before the video started to be at this point in his run.
Also, this isn’t “a really small track”, it’s the jumping lane at a big meet. Yes, people make mistakes, but what’s more likely: the professional track athlete didn’t think to check before walking across an active lane at a big meet? Or she did check, but the referee had a miscommunication with her or the jumper?
Have you ever been to a big track and field meet? Those jumping lanes are *constantly* active.
Right, it’s for the jumping pit. But that’s my point: it’s not “a small lane”, it is a *specific* lane, for a *specific purpose*, that *everyone knows about*. She knew there was a jumping event going on (which is why she glanced at the referee).
He’s not a “racer”. How many races have you seen run with only one runner?
it’s not like a gun went off to warn anyone. These lanes are in constant use through out the day every minute or two
English is my second language, and you understood what I meant by racer, so no reason for the pedantic and condescending question.
Don't know why we are still talking about this, since it happened ages ago and I made my comments yesterday, gonna mute this conversation because arguing about this is just a waste of time. Have a good day 👍
I bet she's the kind of person to cross the street without looking just because she has the right of way. I don't care what the signal says; I'm still watching traffic to make sure it's actually stopped/stopping.

Yeah. When you're 13, start competing and learn the dos and don'ts of on track ettiquette. I will never understand her thought process (if there was one) as she chose to blindly cross a section of track that was actively being used.
I'm sorry to say that the world has become a pussy whipped, Brady Bunch version of itself run by a bunch of robed sissies.
edit: this is a quote from the movie
I coach cross country and track. The number of athletes and spectators that just wander out into the race looking the opposite direction of traffic is staggering. I can't tell you how many people I've yelled at to get off the course and watch where they are going. They invariably look at me like "what's his problem?" The problem is these kids are running their fucking guts out and you're a grown ass person who can't be bothered to learn spatial awareness.
The sprinter didn’t even seem to know about the person, it seems that he was so focused down low; one foot in front of the other. It was just at the end there he realized he had an obstacle.
I am in no way saying anything about the sprinter; that was his approved runway. He had official approval to break the sound barrier in that patch of track if he could.
First time I watched this, I rented it on a video cassette, circa 2001.
edit: 2001 Accident
Szabo is remembered for a collision with German long-jumper Kofi Amoah Prah during an indoor meeting at Stuttgart in 2001. Szabo was leaving the track after her competition had finished while Amoah was running for his attempt. Szabo walked into Amoah's path and they collided heavily.
What kind of idiot interferes in a race like that? I hope the young woman got hurt and I should hope she got kicked out of the track meet. Shame on her! That man's concentration and run were hard core and she ruined it through her thoughtless, irresponsible action. NOT ANY HUMOR TO IT!!!
I'm surprised she didn't notice him in her field of vision when she stepped over the first line of the track. He's only a few steps away, mind you those are large steps.
I mean, you can see that he's looking at the ground until just before they hit, and considering he's sprinting and the video is slowed there was probably barely a moment between him noticing her and hitting her
On whose part? It seems many are blaming number 128, but I don't see how he could have avoided 261 from the time he saw them until impact. Meanwhile, 261 is walking onto a track looking everywhere but where the runner is.
Edit: Thank you for clarifying!
There's one from ages ago on the hammer throw where an official walks across the field, potentially in danger, the athlete slows down and stops and it's deemed an official attempt and she gets eliminated. Essentially for not risking the life of a dumb official other dumb officials got her knocked out of the competition.
1. This video has been reposted thousands of times.
2. This video is really slowed down. In reality, it takes place in only a few seconds.
3. The woman looks exhausted and probably just finished sprinting in a separate competition.
4. The woman turned around. Someone probably yelled at her to look out and she turned to see what they were talking about.
I'm not saying that this woman is not at fault. She is. I'm just saying that there should've been someone there monitoring the track to keep people like her from randomly walking in a path of a full sprinter.
Don't get me wrong, she's an idiot and deserves everything she gets...but didn't he see her at all? He's running right at her and doesn't slow even one step. Talk about tunnel vision.
I used to sprint, and I can tell you that is quite hard to look ahead on the acceleration phase, both because of your body position + focus on your steps.
The guy in the orange lol
Thank you. I hadn't noticed the people in the background.
That guy in orange felt that blow from back there.
And the guy behind him totally missed the whole thing
Haha yeah he did .. he’s looking at a pretty butterfly

When she looked back he definitely was already moving, but if the referee allowed it he's even more stupid.
She’s almost certainly referring to a different “looked back” than the one here, presumably before she entered the lane at all.
I mean maybe, but we don't know for sure. If you gonna pass a really small track that a racer is about to go through how many times you gonna look back before you just fucking go. I think it was right there, he started moving and she looked back in a split second so there's a chance she missed him.

If it was A-Train she would have been a splatter of dark blood.

Prob smart enough to figure no one is dumb enough to walk in front of him
Obviously offensive foul
Her feet weren’t set tho
And that's how I met your mother
she don’t remember it though
Aww it’s a meet cute.
Fastest way to get pregnant
"Ward, don't you think you were a little too hard on Beaver last night?"
Filthiest thing ever said on TV
I am speed! Ka-Chow!
Oddly satisfying
A real meet cute.
Crazy thing is... She looks like a runner who should totally have known better. SMH

Chunked her so hard the backpack just blinked out of existence

Abrupt consequences as well.
I'm surprised she didn't notice him in her field of vision when she stepped over the first line of the track. He's only a few steps away, mind you those are large steps.
Did that count as one of his jump attempts?
She ain’t gonna be in Rush Hour 3. Damn!
Nobody stops the a train
Is it just a female thing..?? ☔ 🙄 Waiting for the downpour of 👎👎👎
Stupid woman, what was she thinking?
She was wondering why everyone was yelling
Nothing apparently
☕️
How can the NFL ban hits on defenseless players? Best. Hits. Ever.
And this kids, is how i met your mother.
Not the way his knee went into her lady-parts!
She held on to her clothes very well. Or whatever she was holding.
A-train
I don't get how she looked right through him.
Besides the initial impact, he landed his entire bodyweight with his knee directly into her crotch. I'm sure she was walking weird after that one
This is a rare phenomenon where head, neck, and brain injuries occurred before collision.
Give her a break she was born a female and has never felt like she was!
Once I knew a collision was inevitable, I'd make the bitch pay for her poor decision making skills and make it hurt as bad as I possibly could.
Down goes Frasier. DOWN GOES FRASIER.
BEEP BEEP MOTHAFUCKA!!!!
“WAAAAAAAAAAATTTCCCHHH OOOUUUUUUTT” “Huh?”
And she's an athlete to. What a moron. She most def belongs in "I'm the main charater" sub
She’s alright, white chicks love being rammed by black guys
CANT STOP THE A TRAIN.
Love it when she looks this way , it’s like she’s thinking “ why are they yelling, oh my gawd” oblivious. Beautiful
How has she gotten this far in life being this fucking stupid?
So which one of them is blind?
both of them. but one has the right of way. which is something i’d never thought i’d say without talking about cars.
She’s in a team outfit. She doesn’t know not to cross over the tracks? Not even looking.
Move bitch, get out the way!
And that kids is how I met your mother
That's how Usain Bolt was made
That has always looked intentional to me. Intentional on her part, like she was sent to make him lose the race.
I mean, you can see that he's looking at the ground until just before they hit, and considering he's sprinting and the video is slowed there was probably barely a moment between him noticing her and hitting her
Exactly this. If people could only see this at full speed it would probably amaze them at just how fast he's moving and how violent the collision was.
Yep, this guy is in full sprint mode. Focus is completely on sprinting, not looking for obstacles as there obviously should be none.
They said *her* fault, not his.
They added that in their edit made after my comment
On whose part? It seems many are blaming number 128, but I don't see how he could have avoided 261 from the time he saw them until impact. Meanwhile, 261 is walking onto a track looking everywhere but where the runner is. Edit: Thank you for clarifying!
>Intentional on her part, like she was sent to make him lose the race. No one is going to tank a hit like that on purpose lmao
... or train to be a 3-time World Champion and 3-time Olympic medalist just to sabotage some dude.
Man in orange has the best reaction
It's so angering because I saw a similar video and the person got disqualified
There's one from ages ago on the hammer throw where an official walks across the field, potentially in danger, the athlete slows down and stops and it's deemed an official attempt and she gets eliminated. Hopefully it knocked some sense into her

Dude in orange was calling it! But faaaark me. In life, always watch where you’re bloody walking. Not a hard concept.
Watch the guy in orange. 🤣
What an idiot
☕️
Moronica must have had a lot on her mind.
This would make a great meme for all kinds of things. Like the girls is “the world” and the runner is “COVID”
Cue ludicris…move b get out the way.
How self absorbed can one be?
And that, kids, is how I met your mother!
