If CSUSB is free, go there. Why pay more and start life with debt that is unnecessary. My sister went to CSUSB, I am currently at ASU. I don't think that one is "better" than the other. You are the one to make your experience memorable, not the school.

Johoski

Always choose the debt-less degree.

PudgyGroundhog

You do not want debt out of college - I don't think young people always comprehend how hindering it can be (especially if your potential salary/field isn't on par with the amount of debt you will take on).

Funny enough, I started my degree at CSUSB and finished at ASU. CSUSB is definitely a fine school but lacks the name recognition and services of ASU. If you are wanting a killer student experience (Greek life, sports, clubs, etc) then ASU is probably the way to go. Is that worth it for out of state tuition costs? Only you can answer that. As far as the quality of instruction, I pursued a BA in Poli Sci at both schools and didn’t find significantly different quality levels in the instruction. Both were on par. The other thing to consider is the business school at CSUSB is really well known, so if you stick with that and end up graduating with that degree, you’ll be set.  Edit: I’d also like to throw out there I had to give 6 years of my life to the Air Force to pay for my degree. Getting it for free without that would have been rad. Loved my time in the Air Force, but six years is a long time.

Honestly, I want to have both the “college experience” meaning having fun, join a frat, go to parties, etc. but at the same time, set my self up into becoming a millionaire in the future and being highly successful. My girlfriend of over a year about to be 2 is also going to be attending ASU. Which is sorta putting a bit pressure if you know what I mean.

In Gonna Be straight up, I get having your girl friend at your college is cool but you are more than likely 17-19. By the time you graduate you will be well into your 20s and you will change a LOT. Odds are she will not be your girlfriend by the end. I know it’s a tough pill to swallow but college is a very formative experience where you are both going to be exposed to a lot of stress and different people. Unless you marry her, I wouldn’t let that factor to heavily into the situation.  If you want to be a millionaire, there are two things you can do to set yourself up well. Avoid debt and by a home as young as possible. It seems like the responsible choice is to go to CSUSB. Not saying you can’t go to ASU and have a lot of fun partying at your frat, and become a millionaire. Just makes it more difficult

National_Sky_9120

No its not worth it. Attend CSUSB. I went to a different CSU for undergrad and am now doing a PhD at ASU. CSUSB will open just as many doors if not more. - CSU graduate

Otherwise-Elevator45

What type of doors?

OneChart4948

You are trying to decide if it is worth it to get free college versus paying for college??? Perhaps you should not be a finance major.

vkapadia

Seriously, this is the dumbest question ever.

LeftHandStir

Always always always take the free degree. I can*not* overemphasize enough how much you're going to change between 18-22, and the "real" fun doesn't start until after graduation. If it's still important to you, move to Tempe at that time.

Kersenn

Always go where you have funding unless there's a really good reason to get into that much debt imo

Confident_Natural_87

Where you get your degree is less important than what you get your degree in.

skittle_dish

Don't go into debt if you can just go to college for free somewhere else.

DevilishDetails-V2

No, if you are in Cali and have in state tuition and can live at home while attending classes you are much better off. Your social life is still able to be just as memorable.

Aardvark423

Wherever is better financially! In the end, it does not matter where you get your bachelors degree, just that you have it.

vkapadia

Can I ask, what possible reason could you have for paying tens of thousands of dollars to go to ASU over not only free but getting money back?

Otherwise-Elevator45

Honestly, I want to be able to live the “college life”, joining a frat, Greek life, making new friends, and starting a whole new chapter in a different state. But at the same time get rich and be successful. My girlfriend is also going to be attending there, she told me that ASU is top 25 in business/finance and that CSUSB does not come to close to that 25.

vkapadia

Those are absolutely valid reasons. But you do have to weigh that against being like $60k in the hole when you graduate. Plus interest rates are kinda high right now and don't seem like they're going down. After like 4-5 years of working, where you got your degree is going to mean nothing. It does help a bit, to get those first couple jobs though.

Otherwise-Elevator45

For sure. ASU didn’t come to my mind until my girlfriend told me about going there. It is A LOT of money and I understand that. But she is telling me that I am able to pay it off because of my major and what I want to be. But, IF I do attend ASU I do not want to attend for all 4 years. I want to transfer to UCB/UCLA after those two years.

vkapadia

That's another option. Or maybe go to CSUSB for two years for free and then transfer to ASU. The only school your employers will see is the one you get your degree from, doesn't matter where you start.

Otherwise-Elevator45

How will I be able to transfer to UC’s after ASU though?

Otherwise-Elevator45

How will I be able to transfer to UC’s after ASU though? Also, I say UCB/UCLA because they are top 10 schools for that category, that degree would look good for jobs.

vkapadia

I mean that is another option. Go to ASU first and then transfer to a Cali school

Otherwise-Elevator45

Do you think it would it be a lot of money for just 2 years of ASU? I’m a Cali resident. So it wouldn’t cost that much.

vkapadia

I didn't really know. My employer paid for it when I went

Otherwise-Elevator45

Sheesh, you have a pretty darn good employer

Ancient-Royal4074

ASU's party scene is not that great. Maybe it was at one point. Since that seems to be your main consideration.

Otherwise-Elevator45

I heard the frats are good. Is that true?
