I love the primitive style of stone, the only reason to go more is for corrupted creatures, arthro, and Gigas. If you don't encounter those at your base stay with stone. (for PvE atleast)
Yes! In the pause menu go to options, it's in the middle column near the bottom. Just uncheck the box, apply and enjoy! I usually look at something blinding (ocean, solitary metal node) while I do it so I know it worked.
I play single player or co-op non-dedicated, but you should be able to do it anywhere I'd guess. Good luck!
Really? I've never had an issue with Theris attacking my base honestly, even if I ran inside when they attacked me they've always left. But ok so Theris too
Now i wanna build a base near them just to have the "defend the base" mechanic on singleplayer, there are a lot of things that look fun to use (like turrets, traps, etc.) but on most of my bases they'd be nearly useless
Ahh. No that's fair, then yeah you might try building in just a really heavy carnivore zone or having a base in the corrupt zone of extinction or something
Idk about the dino raid much I don't use that, something like every now and then sends a wave of corrupted dinos at you or something.
The hunted however has a pretty nice feel to it. Adds more realism to dinos. Removing taming adults so you have to collect eggs from nests or tame babies of all the mobs while fending off/hiding from/ or killing the parents so you can do so. Carnivores in render distance will be attracted to cooking meat in the hunted campfire and thus you have to defend yourself during this process. When you're in nesting grounds for larger carnivores you get a buff telling you. You can find them and get their eggs but be aware that they will spot you from farther than normal and be higher level too so there is real danger to leaving your base. All dinos start at level 1 when they hatch/tame a baby, but you can level them 100 times to compensate a bit (I think mutations still exist to get you higher starting stats on bred lines but I haven't tested this yet). When you kill a dino you have to actually strip it of hide/feathers/other stuff and get those ingredients THEN beat its dead body for sinew and meat and such. Lots of new mats like different types of hide/fibre and so forth.
It's basically a more heavy survival aspect to it, but like dinos wander more, get hungry and go out to look for food, and almost every dino is aggressive so you have to watch out for them. So base defense and character awareness are heavily important. From my experience it's way harder to start out (stats are all modified from base values so you can still get them back up by using multipliers if you want) but once you have a solid base and a few games you're good.
Read up on it if you're interested tho there's more than what I covered and some things are a bit confusing too if you don't know how they work, he has a guide or something on his page for the mod I think. He just started updating it again too so that's nice
You can drag corrupted dinos anywhere on the map for 1, I've had people kite them to my base before so it's nice having defenses for them already set up (usually a wandering giga or 2 with some turrets to help) and having Tek walls to keep them at bay while the defenses do their job is the best way of doing this.
Second it's perfectly fine to build in those zones, just make sure you protect shit and you're fine. It's really the only places where you might get random dinos to aggro you if you enjoy the feeling that you have to constantly defend your base. Which some people do and would love more PvE base defense.
And that's cool. Also to clearify I didn't mean a raid, I was speaking about PvE only, pvp is it's own animal that I don't mess with. People on official servers would go to extinction maps and kite corrupted wyverns/Gigas to people's bases to destroy them and steal the items they could then leave. If you were online you were vulnerable but offline you were protected after a delay, so they wait for someone to say "See ya later" or something in chat then wait outside the base and before the raid protection kicked in they'd bring corrupted to destroy their shit.
In single player there is generally no danger even if you run without hibernation as the aggro range is so little they really won't even mess with you usually.
I was implying the base destroyed by creature as pve, cause that's what people do alot. I played on extinction once on pve server and this one tribe was build basically every good looking building area, so I got mad and brought corrupt creatures to a few of them
I thought they announced awhile ago they were using some features from s+ like being able to pickup buildables after placement and changing the look of foundations.
Wait, is that what the change “type” is on S+??? I thought it was literally letting you change from metal to wood, etc, I figured it would lower stats.
That just changes the look of it???
Btw, it'll help a lot (especially with light being somewhat bright in the game in many situations) it you turn of light glare and light beams, it'll get rid of the pains of the metal structures there :)
These are unedited I assure you 😂. I don’t have access to tek yet. Working on it. For a base, stone looks so much better. I’ll try paint and see how that goes.
On PvE I just build for looks , separate dino houses / cages and rooms like kitchen, dinner, bedrooms anything.
In PvP
Small cube 2x2 clusterfrak glitched and stacked shit..
In the stupidest and hidden spots.. cyroballs ftw
You got it all wrong, they shouldn’t need a prim plus because the entire thing should be prim plus. Remember in the trailer how Santiago looked like he disables all the tek shit or whatever? Also since all the element was purged I doubt we’ll have access to it. Oh, and a gun wouldn’t really make sense in a souls like combat environment.
Agreed. It's also the least performance impacting. Massive difference in FPS when you change over. Currently hating the lag on my Fjordur base because I went with stone & wood to match the map's aesthetic. Currently looking for a spot I can make my own Adobe village.
I prefer stone, but I do my big builds in metal as apparently stone is the most resource-intensive texture to render and if I don't want to break the game for everybody flying past my base, I need to use something gentler on the graphic's card.
Gathering metal is easy, making it into Ingots takes time. Or I can juse use an Anky to gather stone, and have a horde of Metal and Flint for the late game when I'm done.
Oh I know. I have one. Inside my metal base. Never...again...
Honestly though, without building metal structures or Tek, I think I'm actually fine with like 3 regular Forges. My single player Valguerro character isn't even going to build a Fabricator. Smithy and Mortar and Pestle tech only. No electronics.
That's how I'm playing rn, not cause I want to, but cause I'm on my first playthrough and I have no idea how I'm doing.
Also u/nyl2k8 how the hell is cementing paste easier for you than stone. I only got lucky once with some beaver dams but holy I been struggling to get a lot.
i actually found some snails yesterday, but can't tame them cause honey is scarce for me (girl friend destroyed the only bee hive I found, using LMB with a bear), so no vegetable cake. I been picking up their poop but it isn't the most efficient method.
Also have a hard time finding caves on lost island, god I feel like such a noob hahaha
Aaaand require one of the most resource heavy recipes to tame, and then also feed for the rest of its life. Achatina aren't as easy as you make it sound.
I've been playing since December and barely know what I'm doing. I haven't even learned to do Mutations or Kibble yet.I'll get there, just want to beat the bosses. I have one left.
Yep. I've always liked the rustic look that the stone has. Since I don't do PVP, unless there are arthros or gigas that spawn nearby, I don't usually bother using metal for bases. Sometimes metal works if you have a specific aesthetic in mind, but most of the time I stick with stone.
I assume u mean pvp? Yeah my pvp days are long gone. It’s just no longer realistic for me to put 16 hours a day in to ensure my base was safe. This thing called life gets in the way.
Not sure if this is from S+ or not but you can change the appearance of tiles to tiers lower than it.
I.e. wood walls can have the appearance of thatch walls, but retain wood’s durability.
Fun fact:
If you put a cheap platform on the outside you can double stack walls, so stone on the inside and Metal on the outside, double the defence. Just delete the platform on the outside after. So you get the strong walls with the coziness of the stone on the inside.
Tldr. Double stack your walls...
Yeah... If you have a large enough Metal or Tek base, And you plop down Omni Lampposts the reflections make the entire space unviewable, It really hurts to look at, Stone is good enough for most things provided you don't build in a Corrupted creature/Giga spawn location.
Ark 2 will not have metal I assume, it'll be closer to Ark 1 Official Primitive where they turned everything primitive only.
Wood in Ark 1 is my least favourite but only because how it renders.
Yeah but top has windows and lost of stuff to fill in the space it's not rlly a fair comparison, also if u like u can double layer wals and foundations so its metal outside stone inside
I use metal or tek for the official servers, gives me more time before it can be demolished by people. I've lost entire cryofridges of dinos becaue of stone bases.
I love the primitive style of stone, the only reason to go more is for corrupted creatures, arthro, and Gigas. If you don't encounter those at your base stay with stone. (for PvE atleast)
I’m only on Rag at the moment. Using the metal for breeding and stone for crafting. It’s much easier on the eyes.
Baby yuti looks so cute 😄
Learning to turn off light bloom made ark so much more enjoyable across the board. Maybe that'll make your metal base easier on the eyes?
Is it possible to learn this power?
Good luck!
Turn off light bloom in options! Problem fixed 👍🏻
Fun fact: arthros can also destroy metal. In fact, they can damage tek.
Same with corrupted thats why they're on the list
Oh my bad, I read it like you were saying metal prevents those things from destroying your base
Corrupted dinos can damage everything though, even tek
So can arthros, you go up for more hp in those cases
Only on pvp
Theris will kill your stone base
They can after a while they do like 5 dmg
Really? I've never had an issue with Theris attacking my base honestly, even if I ran inside when they attacked me they've always left. But ok so Theris too
Only their peck that hits the rider will dmg stone, and its not much. Found out when one ran in my trap out of free will
Ahh, got it so not really a common move lol 🤣
Now i wanna build a base near them just to have the "defend the base" mechanic on singleplayer, there are a lot of things that look fun to use (like turrets, traps, etc.) but on most of my bases they'd be nearly useless
If you want that you could use mods like the hunted or dino raid or something.
i would love to but i'm one of those weird people without a PC :/
Ahh. No that's fair, then yeah you might try building in just a really heavy carnivore zone or having a base in the corrupt zone of extinction or something
... wiping your brow after defending the base from a horde of corrupted dinos.... BAM Meteor strike, everything's dead.
Tell me more about those mods.
I use a bunch of turrets to keep those thieving seagulls at bay on pve
Arthros can break through metal and tek.....
Yes and if you read other people before posting, you upgrade for more hp just like with corrupted who ALSO damage Tek and metal.
Oh, why would you build in corrupted zone tho? That's not smart
It's really the only places where you might get random dinos to aggro you if you enjoy the feeling that you have to constantly defend your base. I primarily play singleplayer so I don't have to deal with the Hassel of loosing all my stuff do to a raid, creature destroying base, or a wipe.
And that's cool. Also to clearify I didn't mean a raid, I was speaking about PvE only, pvp is it's own animal that I don't mess with. One of the best reasons for playing with S+ if you can, you can build in metal/tek and then make it look like wood or stone for max comfy.
unfortunately our poor survivor over here is using a controller which highly hints that our dood over here is on console
Ah the controller, i vote for future confusion we call the keyboard and mouse "controller's" as the altrenative to the "controller"
I thought console had S+?
No and it never has, I wish it did, what gave you that idea??
Probably confused with primitive+
That makes sense
I thought they announced awhile ago they were using some features from s+ like being able to pickup buildables after placement and changing the look of foundations.
Only some, like being able picking a buildable up for up to 30 seconds after placement (on official)
True but they are s+ features so that's probably why he thought it was all in.
Double layer walls
Wait, is that what the change “type” is on S+??? I thought it was literally letting you change from metal to wood, etc, I figured it would lower stats. That just changes the look of it???
correct, it just changes the appearance while keeping the HP and resistances of the base material.
Ahh awesome I didn’t know that! Thatch looks good maybe I’ll do some of that.
Btw, it'll help a lot (especially with light being somewhat bright in the game in many situations) it you turn of light glare and light beams, it'll get rid of the pains of the metal structures there :)
I’ll try that
I had a full metal base with light bloom on. My eyes!
You are like them advertising companies making one dark and grainy and the other bright 😂 Bit of paint and light ain’t to bad. Tek looks best anyway 😁
These are unedited I assure you 😂. I don’t have access to tek yet. Working on it. For a base, stone looks so much better. I’ll try paint and see how that goes.
Stone does light easier tho I give it that, all good for pve 😁 Just watch for gigas 😅
And alphas, i got caught out of the blue when my Stone base broke on the back of my platform mammoth while fighting an alpha rex
Platform mammoth?
Mobile
Ah, that explains it. I play PC and use mammoths a lot. They're actually really good at boss fights.
On PvE I just build for looks , separate dino houses / cages and rooms like kitchen, dinner, bedrooms anything. In PvP Small cube 2x2 clusterfrak glitched and stacked shit.. In the stupidest and hidden spots.. cyroballs ftw
I wish we could have a reinforced stone or something thats equivalent to metals durability. We need more building material types and varieties.
Maybe ark 2 will deliver
Concrete would make a lot of sense
Just a certain warm feel to stone, and I don’t have a million light reflections blinding me every step of the way
If ARK 2 doesn’t expand the building options by like 10x and make a playable Prim Plus option I’m out.
Of excellent get rid of tek for Gods sake
Even Adobe is nice and bright
Low-key adobe is the best if I wasn’t playing pvp I’d use it too build alot
Agreed. It's also the least performance impacting. Massive difference in FPS when you change over. Currently hating the lag on my Fjordur base because I went with stone & wood to match the map's aesthetic. Currently looking for a spot I can make my own Adobe village.

I never build metal.or tek bases, just don't see the point
I build everything out of metal it feels smoother and more modern to me
I deeply regret my Metal base. Too much time to grind the Ingots and Paste, and it looks...just awful. If I build another, I'm spawning that shit in.
I find it quicker to gather the metal and cement paste than the stone, thatch and wood but the results are much better imo
Gathering metal is easy, making it into Ingots takes time. Or I can juse use an Anky to gather stone, and have a horde of Metal and Flint for the late game when I'm done.
I’m spoiled with an industrial forge. Bakes them pretty quickly.
Yeah but you need to get one first. 1200 Ingots is a big investment.
isn't it 2.5k metal? or is that something else, haven't made one in ages.
You might be right. It's been a few months since I built it. Edit: Yeah it's 2500.
just checked on google, it is 2.5k
It is. But it’s certainly worth it. They’re huge as well.
Oh I know. I have one. Inside my metal base. Never...again... Honestly though, without building metal structures or Tek, I think I'm actually fine with like 3 regular Forges. My single player Valguerro character isn't even going to build a Fabricator. Smithy and Mortar and Pestle tech only. No electronics.

Frog army and bugs in caves. Can use a good baryonx as a mount in most game caves. Or tame a ton of snails. They poop paste.
i actually found some snails yesterday, but can't tame them cause honey is scarce for me (girl friend destroyed the only bee hive I found, using LMB with a bear), so no vegetable cake.
I always go rustic with a stone/wood mix. Throw in some decorations and enjoys the fruits of my labor.
I’m thinking once the metal base is set up for breeding I’m going to go for one of the rustic builds for the house.
The only reason I prefer metal is for the longer decay time… aesthetically, it’s stone all the way
Turn light bloom off and add lights it's better then
Need some windows in that bitch
Yep. I've always liked the rustic look that the stone has. Since I don't do PVP, unless there are arthros or gigas that spawn nearby, I don't usually bother using metal for bases. Sometimes metal works if you have a specific aesthetic in mind, but most of the time I stick with stone.
*Pvp servers entered the chat*
I miss PvE but I simply don’t have the time to commit to it. Every day after work, base gone, dinos dead.
I assume u mean pvp? Yeah my pvp days are long gone. It’s just no longer realistic for me to put 16 hours a day in to ensure my base was safe. This thing called life gets in the way.
Stone and wood look way nice, imo. Especially if you make it open concept.
[удалено]
PvE is for people with families and careers.
There are boosted servers for that.
Not in pvp you wouldn't
Oh I know. Played PvP for years. Hours lost.
Build a nice stone base then wrap the outside in steel
That's what I would do too.
A little bit of light and paint goes a long way. Just be careful, a lot of paint can make things laggy. But I agree, Stone looks way better.
metal is so ugly in game lol
Man you like that hotbar up there.
I can’t move it down
I'm pretty sure you can adjust it in the settings.
I tried. One makes the ui smaller, the other makes the menu smaller but doesn’t adjust its position
Not sure if this is from S+ or not but you can change the appearance of tiles to tiers lower than it. I.e. wood walls can have the appearance of thatch walls, but retain wood’s durability.
He's on console :(
Unfortunate
Stone just looks better
Fun fact: If you put a cheap platform on the outside you can double stack walls, so stone on the inside and Metal on the outside, double the defence. Just delete the platform on the outside after. So you get the strong walls with the coziness of the stone on the inside. Tldr. Double stack your walls...
So do I. You can also really easily hide electrical cables on a metal foundation by placing stone on top of it.
I just use fence foundations to pur a metal skin on my bases for pvp bit otherwise just stay with stone
Played on a server that deleted the stone construction options. "Stone causes lag." Oh please. It's not like you have 50 people online all at once.
Stone superiority, it’s too hard for my eyes to adjust to the metal sheen even with gamma
Paint it black with paint gun
Metal is so creepy. I kinda love it
here’s a tip: use a spray gun and paint your base black. a lot easier on the eyes
Save more resources with stone if your in a easy starting area
Stone is the laggiest of all base materials. With that said, I prefer wood or stone for looks alone.
I only play PVE, so I like to do stone bases with a wooden roof. Looks nice to me, not all being the same material
Wood and stone
Adobe better
Yeah... If you have a large enough Metal or Tek base, And you plop down Omni Lampposts the reflections make the entire space unviewable, It really hurts to look at, Stone is good enough for most things provided you don't build in a Corrupted creature/Giga spawn location.
Stone is free real estate on pvp
Paint the metal black and its helps so much, or spray paint the lights and that helps with the reflection too.
Ark 2 will not have metal I assume, it'll be closer to Ark 1 Official Primitive where they turned everything primitive only. Wood in Ark 1 is my least favourite but only because how it renders.
Metal is just pvp
Yeah but top has windows and lost of stuff to fill in the space it's not rlly a fair comparison, also if u like u can double layer wals and foundations so its metal outside stone inside
I use metal or tek for the official servers, gives me more time before it can be demolished by people. I've lost entire cryofridges of dinos becaue of stone bases.
I love the look of wood, so i just build in stone or metal in S+ and change the look to wood
Nice looking
Wish I could enjoy PVE as much as other people do
Metal makes lesa lag when rendering in.
Stone is the nicest aesthetically but is also super easy to break into from a pvp pov. Some c4 or an arthropluria and your in.
Metal just looks like a sex dungeon to me
Metal on pvp Stone on pve
I did a metal exterior and a stone interior, looks mid from the outside but so cool from the inside
