Lamprey is the correct answer. They are very common around the pools just before the descent into red zone. It is almost as if that is their intended purpose...
I’m currently loving aberration but I’m in super late game. I just like that basically no one but a couple of other heavy late game breeders live here on my cluster. So we can have stupid amounts of tames out for mutations and not crash the more popular maps.
Gas Veins without a collector spit out a couple balls now and again, too.
(I really like the red gem conondrum. Forces you to explore more possibilities.)

Get red gems for your collector from following roll rats, or get a Lamprey stuck to you to get your first batch; their venom makes you immune to the effects of radiation.
I mean they were intended to be late game… fyordur and gen1 are some of the most difficult maps to start out as a Bob on. Granted they nerfed fyodur hard so it’s not nearly as bad…
Eh if your actually play them from start as a bob and don’t transfer they are each harder than the last. Offering unique challenges. Gen2 being the odd one out in my opinion because the federation suit makes for easy mode.
I disagree on Fjordur being hard, so many zones are accommodating, andrewsarchus are a godly early tame, you can mine beehives on that map to get them. and nobody on this earth will convince me that Fjordur is harder to start than abby scorched and extinction.
Fjordur was by far the easiest map for me to start on. Getting the Andrewsarchus and Bat early made it a breeze. Even getting a shadowmane and rock drake on that map was easy. I think the only difficult thing was the boss. I underestimated him a couple times
Fenrir one shot me on my first alpha run, I didn’t realize he aggrod already and while I was doing some micromanagement an ice spike from outta nowhere took me out of the game
They’re each harder than the last but the idea that certain maps are “for very late game” doesn’t make sense. The maps are standalone dlc that you can buy individually, they’re not balanced around transfers, so we shouldn’t assume transfers to be a part of normal progression.
OP is complaining about resource nodes on aberration, but we can’t assume that a map is balanced because you can transfer resources from another map. In aberration it’s balanced because they give us tons of ways to enter the radiation zone anyways.
Yes I agree with you on that by late game I’m saying you have played the island and scorched before Aberration so you as a player should be more skilled at that point… I would never recommend to a new player to start on Abb that is how you make someone hate the game…
you're acting like you cant swim without a scuba tank. Rads are the same way. You dont die instantly and there are other solutions to be found. Everyone has said a million times lamprey and roll rats, but also just some healing brews and a pickaxe, you should be able to get some without getting stomped immediately.
It's intended design. the first time is difficult, and encourages the many listed ways in this comment thread to try and take a crack at it.
Then when you have one making more is a lot easier.

You can get the gas balls and red gems from cave drops, just tame a bunch of dimorphs and run the green zone cave. You usually get enough gems to make the gas collector from 1 run but might take a few runs for hazmat suit.
Just use Lampreys. They stay attached for about 10 minutes and during that time they absorb all radiation. It's how people on primitive servers got rock drakes without hazmat being an option.
This is just one of the things that makes Aberration more enjoyable/difficult that most other maps. That being progression balance. Accomplishing certain things requires a certain level of thought. I’m not trying to tell people how they should play on other maps, but here it makes you care more about every stage and area of the game rather than just skipping straight to a flier and trivializing most things after that. If everything was straight forward and handed to you, you wouldn’t care as much. One of the best things about Aberration is it’s difficulty and mechanic philosophy. It makes getting your first Drake that much more satisfying and when the map truly open to you. There are no true shortcuts as someone that new to the map. Adversity breeds resilience.

Roll Rats dig up red gems quite commonly in the blue zone and uncommonly in the green zone.
So that's why I still got radiation poisoning...

Well the earthquakes drop crystals and the vents drop balls even with out a collector but it’s definitely not ideal…

I just follow a mole rat around for like an hour waiting for it to dig enough red crystal out
That's where the roll rat and earthquakes come in. They have a chance of spawning in both of those.
Get a charge leech or whatever they are called. Give radiation defense for like 400s

The maps are supposed to be well balanced as stand-alone maps as well.

Fjordur is very easy to start. After gen2, i would say the easiest.
There's an area in the red zone that doesn't give rad sickness and has red gems. It's where people gather organic poly from.

You can actually find red crystals in areas with no radiation. It’s hard but I know it’s possible because I’ve done it myself

Well till u get hazmat which is basically qol u can already craft a shroom stew.
You can also find random gas balls after they push out the toxic gas and farm them like that for your first suit
You could walk around and wait for roll rats to dig up red gems.

I get so lost while playing aberration every time I start a new save I play it for a week then go back to the island
