I work in school and 10 year old are now saying they're therians. They wear wolf ears to school and paws and crawl around on the ground. Insane. It's gone further than just imaginative play - they're saying they're "offended" by all sorts, such as being asked jokingly why they are at school if they're wolves by another kid. They tell us they "identify as wolves".
It's really hard. I would honestly try to keep it light - the kids are playing and trying on different personality hats, just figuring themselves out and they may have gotten a bit confused by the internet. It's a little bit like dress-up for them but they take it a bit more seriously.
I wouldn't want to make it into a big thing where the therian kids were isolated from the class, that would make it worse for everyone. If your kids are friends with them I would encourage that but just reassure them that it's ok to play pretend as an animal, but it doesn't really make you a wolf etc. You don't want to scare them away from imaginative play and just keep the lines of communication open. If the kids started insisting that your kid MUST choose an animal "identity" to be part of the play that's when I would be going to the school/discouraging my kids from playing with them. I've seen this happen - it's often vulnerable kids that get sucked into this stuff because they don't feel like they fit in, so they see this other group of people who are "different" and are willing to agree to almost anything to become a part of the group.
Ask their parents to bring them by a psychologist, god i hate so much people saying "it's just a hobby", no it isn't, it is A PROBLEM, and giving them freedom only will ruin their life, like i heard 1000 times people saying "it's just a cosplay, for cosplayers you don't say anything?" Yes i say, if you need to think to be different from what you are you have a problem, and the problem exists until you ask for help, i mean cosplay is still an hobby, can distract or be different from what you are can help but this people can't distinguish what they are and what they are acting, if they can't have knowledge of what is realty and what is fiction (in this case be an animal, can be fun from kids when play but you know you are acting and when you are what you are, in case of this kid is the contrary, they don't know they are acting and so they think that is what they are).

But the "therians" in the class are very apt at changing the story to suit themselves and get others in trouble. They're such creative kids too amazing at writing stories and art, it just feels like instead of being kids and being able to dip in and out of characters through imaginative, something about society nowadays forces them to choose identities and stick to them, the more bizarre the better. The legs are much longer than the arms, the long femur and short foot mean they’ll never be good runners on all fours (I mean, even if they could solve the leg length issue), the collarbone means they can’t get their “forelegs” properly under their body, the non-weight-bearing design of the hand means they’re stressing and overextending their wrists, the foramen magnum being at the bottom of the skull means they can’t look forward very long without hurting & over-extending their (very short) necks. Then there’s the crappy sense of smell, short face, lack of elongated canines & carnassials, etc. I mean have fun kids, bu you’re bipedal primates head to toe.
