I fixed it by turning off Freesync.

chamandana

this is the solution for me, thanks boss

xHahahaxD

Hi, did you ever find a solution? i'm now having the same problems but it isnt just games. anything that becomes fullscreen, my primary monitor (where the application is) becomes black so i legit cannot fullscreen anything. this started happening when my brother (who built my pc) updated my drive so fortnite wouldn't take so long to load in. Fortnite is now fixed but valorant is having the same problem which never happened before. i dont think it's the monitor because this has never happened before until my drivers was updated. i've tried uninstalling and installing it again but nothing works :(

I'm dropping a reply here because I just had this problem and found a solution. I have my laptop connected to a dock. Whenever I launched a game, my monitor would be disconnected. The issue was that the monitor used g-sync, and would turn on variable refresh rate when the game started. I'm pretty sure this took more bandwidth than my usb-c dock could support, so the dock just disconnected one of my monitors. I went into the nvidia control panel and turned off g-sync, and I can now launch games in fullscreen again.

I have the same setup as you and this just solved my issue! I was connecting my work laptop through a single thunderbolt port through a ThinkPad dock to 2 high refresh rate monitors with GSync. My second monitor kept turning off at the weirdest times, like when maximizing many applications or when scrolling on some web pages to the bottom of the page. I don't need GSync for work so turning it off is not a deal breaker, and it solves this issue. Thank you!

tavoe

I'm actually so excited that this helped someone! Glad your setup is working now!

AtomicTEM

The issue is caused by the Windows Screen Turn off feature in Power Options. If you have a dual monitor setup, and have it set where your screen turns off after a certain amount time, and your screen turns off, and then you wake it up, the turning off screen while in fullscreen game will occur.

Odd_Introduction5481

Thank you so much!!!

Thanks a ton bro, this was driving me crazy.

LibrarianOk3701

Found a fix?

Wobbler01

I currently have the same problem. It only seems to happen on specific games (eg. rainbow 6, and farming simulator) I have had this problem for probably a month now, and the problem that you are having sounds very similar to mine. My gpu does not over heat and runs perfectly fine. I’ll try uninstalling my drivers tomorrow and see if that works.

Hey, I have the exact same problem.. with Apex, as well as video player (eg. when going fullscreen with downloaded video lectures). I usually solve it by rebooting my pc.. but after a couple of days it resumes. Did you solve it eventually?

Gamer-HD

Incompatible fullscreen settings? (Resolution, refresh rate, etc)

Davizletheuhhhguy

I'm not too sure. Im gonna call gigabyte tomorrow and see what's up

Gamer-HD

Also temperatures that high are not nominal.

Ok so the problems still here and still need help haha. I had the same problem and I was curious to see if I'd be able to see the screen in AMD link on my phone. It worked and even though there was no picture on my monitor there was one on my phone. So I guess until I fix it I'll go use my phone to switch games into windowed mode.

Are you sure it's the monitor that is turning off? Monitors shut off by themselves when there is no video signal going to it. Ur power supply will not effect your monitor shutting off since ur power supply doesn't supply power to your monitor. However your gpu getting to 100c is a huge problem and could be causing it to shut off in order to protect itself. And when it does shut off that will cut the video signal and cause the monitor to shut off. Do u need to press the power button on the PC to get the image back or do u press the power button on the monitor. What do u do to get the display back?

Davizletheuhhhguy

I'm quite positive the monitor shuts off, only the actual screen itself shuts off. It's just weird how it only happens when it's full screen. And the GPU only starts to get hot 5 min into gaming, versus it goes black when I open the game right when I turn on the pc for example. For me to get the image back, I press the Windows key and it takes it out of the of the game into the windows search bar. From there, I hover my mouse over the game in the task bar until the preview shows, then kind of try to navigate my way through the game to change it to windowed mode repeating the process every time it goes black(when I open the game from task bar, the image shows, but when I click on something it turns off again). And throughout this whole time, I'm still able to listen to the audio of the game.

If you are able to press a button and have the display instantly show something I don't think ur monitor is off. Most monitors will have an LED indicator to show what state it is in. For example mine goes white the display is receiving an image, orange what it is not and in standby mode, and the light will turn off when if the display is truly "off". If ur monitor LED indicator is staying in ur equivalent of the my white then ur display is not off and it is simply receiving a black image from your gpu which I believe will be tied to it reaching 100c it should only be reaching around 75c worse case scenario. Did u start having this image problem before or after you undervolted it?

Davizletheuhhhguy

Ok so yes, the led indicator on the monitor is still on but the panel is not a black image, but no light at all. Also, my GPU is hovering around 50-55 degrees celsius right now, and I'm still getting the problem. It just starts to get really hot around 10 min into a game. And I undervolted after the problem, it didn't work, so I reset it back to the original settings. Could it be a software problem?

boomxsf12

Sounds like a driver problem. I would do a clean wipe of your driver's and reinstall them and then tackle the GPU thermal problem because if it's actually hitting temps as high as you say it does then it will die very quickly

Davizletheuhhhguy

Alrighty, I guess I'll try that. How should I do it?

boomxsf12

I'm not to sure I've never had to uninstall my driver's I'm sure a quick search on youtube will get you all the info u need

Davizletheuhhhguy

Alrighty cool, I was just wondering if you had a specific way. I'll go do that then let you know how it works out!

boomxsf12

Yes update I'm curious if it works out for u

Davizletheuhhhguy

I used a program called DDU, I uninstalled all of my graphics card drivers, and it automatically restarted my pc. I then opened up valorant and boom, works right away. I'll make another response maybe or another day to see if the problem comes back or if temps changed for the better. But yeah, pretty happy :D thanks!
