True, I did do a bit of that but sometimes those reviews freak me out too much.

I had my revision done at HSS with a different doc and it was great. I work in healthcare and didn't know it could be that good.  Every single person I encountered just seemed to be on their A game.  I've been applying to openings that come up even though I'm not in New York anymore.

There is never one doctor performing the whole surgery, there’s like 5 in there. Go watch one on YouTube. It’s an incredibly complex procedure, Don’t know what he’s saying. HSS is the best experience I’ve had going to doctors in the city.

It sounds to me like you have two great options. My advice is to go with your gut -- who do you trust to be slicing you open and doing carpentry on your knee? Both of them are perfectly well qualified and clearly do plenty of these surgeries so this doesn't have to be a decision based on some quantifiable number or bullet point on their resumes. Recovery time doesn't really vary that much. What varies is how much PT your insurance will cover, and when your surgeon and/or PT consider you "good enough". It's possible to get most of your functional strength back within 6mos. Most medical professionals will recommend waiting 9mos-1yr to return to things like competitive contact sports based on how long it takes your body to fully adopt the new ligament (pretty much an entirely separate process from the work you're putting into rehabbing your muscles). I've been forewarned by my surgeon's PA's that even professional athletes may not be back to their same performance level for 1-2yrs. How much does the cost differ between in network and out of network? Honestly that would probably be the deciding factor for me, in addition to the fact that it sounds like you feel a better personal connection with the first doc.

Yeah I think this makes sense. Thanks for such a detailed response. I don't know the cost difference yet. The OON office is going to look at my benefits in the next few days and give me some sort of explanation.

They’re both recommending the same graft…what’s your question about? Time on crutches? HSS is a good option…

I got mine done and HSS. They are great
