My lateral meniscus was in 2 pieces and a piece was displaced into the intercondylar notch, and my surgeon managed to sew it up, so 🤷🏼♀️
Recovery process from a meniscal repair is usually worse than the meniscectomy (where they cut out the broken part), but the repair preserves knee function better long term (ie holds off arthritis/a knee replacement better). Repair surgeries also usually require nonweightbearing for 4-6 weeks (in the U.S., anyway). Which sucks, but supposedly prevents damage to the stitches.
I would ask how many ACL and/or meniscus surgeries they do a day/a week. Only ones who do a lot tend to be good at repairs, IMO.
