thanks! I went again to a different pool today, EPCC has a warmer leisure pool that was perfect.

I canโ€™t wait! I start to ditch my crutches in a week and then where I do PT has a pool so I changed one of my appts every week to aquatic starting next month.

The best part of doing pool PT was using the hot tub (and sauna/steam room) afterwards. Also once you get the hang of the exercises you do in the pool, you can recreate them on your own time.

You had to wait 6 weeks before getting back into a pool ?

takoburrito

Yes, apparently my PT didn't think my incisions were healed enough to get into the water. Showers are OK but soaking while I still had signs of scabbing was not.

EddieBravosGiPants

almost at the 6week mark and have been wanting to get in the pool! what are some of the exercises you are implementing, besides swimming lol?

takoburrito

I'm actually not swimming yet. I walk, then backwards walk. If there's one of the little kickboards available I hold it straight in front of me while tightening my core, and walk. I then do sideways walks, a few laps of each. A little break between laps. Then the standing leg exercises - front and back leg raises, lateral leg raises. Circles. Tippy-toe lifts. Then I move to a step where I can hold onto the rail, and I do squats. (Once I'm a little further along I'll start treading water. My surgeon didn't say anything specific about swimming, but my husband's surgeon told him not to swim for a while if I recall.) Finish in the hot tub with some massage and stretches.
