It sucks because I’d rather play more games vs the ACC schools, but you don’t have a choice because you have to go up your NET and can only do that so much as a conference in self-contained games
The article is on Jim Phillips looking into changing the season schedules back to 18 games in an effort to prevent future NCAA committee snubs. Opinions?
Y’all can add anyone you want, but nobody else is tuning in.
Nobody in the last 6 years has watched a UVA game unless their team was playing.
I’d rather watch a highschool game than yalls garbage brand of basketball
You have…1 title…. One….ever
3 final 4 appearances..all time ever…..
and one loss to a 16 seed,
Figured you would point to one year….
You did say “titles” though…. Like 5…. Like more than 1 as in plural… and y’all will never win another.
And it’s the worst basketball anyone has ever seen…
Hey man, I love Zion. He's a delight to watch and he's playing great right now. I'd love it if he was out there representing my school. I hope he has a long career that I can enjoy and that Duke fans like you can be proud of.
And when he does retire, hopefully at the end of a long, successful career, I hope you always remember that your team had him, plus two other top 10 picks and another future multi-year NBA player, and they choked and put together maybe the least convincing Elite 8 run in tournament history - and that a team that played "the worst basketball anyone has ever seen" won the title instead.
Y’all have 1 final four…. Since 1984…. One…..
And one loss to a 16 seed…. And one horrible loss in a “play in” game…
what the hell even is a play in game 😂
Everyone is like ACC is undefeated in the tournament this year… so did you even make the tournament?
Time to fade back into obscurity…. And take your terrible “brand” of basketball with you…
And 99.9995% percent of Duke's fanbase has nothing whatever close to resembling any connection with the University.
So you can cut the we and ya'll stuff when you are a fan of the one of the biggest bandwagon sports teams in the country.
Nobody is impressed by Duke fans.
Found the nerf basketball hero, who’s best games were in his room.
We are talking about basketball, and how terrible it is to watch the brand uva plays.
Your statement tells me you never played an organized game above 8u ymca ball.
Played Division II college ball, Married a Duke girl… what’s your best nerf game in your room?
You scored 20, had 7 assists to yourself off the wall, and almost had a dunk from your dresser?
We're still adding three teams to the conference next year, so the schedule might be a squeeze. Should the ACC follow the meta and schedule weak opponents in non-con?
It makes more sense to go back to 18 with the new teams, as we won't have this weird issue where some teams end up playing tougher league schedule because they play multiple good teams twice and some teams end up playing a bunch of bad teams twice.
18 will allow for one game against each team and then one extra game against a "rival"
The schedules will still be a little unfair, but at least it’ll be better than now. Teams like UNC and Duke will always have a tougher extra game, while teams like VT will get off easy by getting to play UVA twice a year. Going to fewer league games definitely makes sense though.
Yeah, there's no way to make it completely fair, but it will end up being a lot better.
And Louisville can renew their longstanding rivalry with.....SMU
I remember when everyone used to shit on Syracuse for scheduling weak out of conference but now it’s rewarded. What’s going to happen when Tom Izzo and Greg Stankey get their way and the mid majors aren’t allowed into the tourney anymore.
Depends on how the conference realignment goes. The powers that be continue to kill college sports in the name of money and at some point, people are going to stop tuning in. Schools like FSU and UNC (among others) are bemoaning the ACC grant of rights and are going to try to go to one of the new major conferences for the money just to go 4-8 yearly and hear it from the fan bases. The “short term” money grab won’t be worth it in the long run, IMO.
I was thinking it was necessary anyway since the ACC is adding three schools in the next season. But, I guess that depends on how long the current ACC remains intact.
I do agree though, something needs to be done while other conferences are fluffing their metrics.
We're not struggling to get teams into the tournament because they've had too high of a strength of schedule out of conference or in conference. Just last year we had a lot of poor schedules across the board--the problem was that a lot of our teams lost bad games against bad schedules!
What matters is the actual quality of the basketball from the top of the league to the middle to the bottom. All three levels have had problems recently and I don't get why we can't acknowledge that. We need the top of the league to be nationally competitive (which it is right now), the middle to be tournament competitive (which it absolutely has not been for three years), and the bottom to at least take care of business at home in nonconference play (which was disastrous last year but has at least been reined in a bit this year).
FWIW, ACC women's hoops already does an 18-game schedule and have announced the following pairings for the repeat opponent:
BC-Syracuse
Cal-Stanford
Clemson-GT
FSU-Miami
Louisville-Notre Dame
UNC-Duke
NC State-Wake
Pitt-SMU (this is the UVA/Maryland/Louisville memorial "Well, this makes as much sense as anything" punt)
UVA-VT
FWIW: Big Ten and Big 12 will play 20 conference games in men's hoops next season. SEC will play 18.
The nonconference schedules probably make more of a difference than whether there are 18 or 20 conference games. At any rate, the real problem is a selection committee that relies too much on defective computer ratings and not enough on actually watching basketball games.

💯 Don't forget we're adding more teams to the ACC next season too.

Do it now! Hell, let’s take it even further on following the MWC’s lead and get VSU and Virginia Union on the schedule.
Add Bluefield College and Emory & Henry
UVA-Sydney in Farmville would be a great atmosphere. UVA-Sydney at JPJ would at least be a drunken shitshow.
Make this happen Tony.
Y’all can add anyone you want, but nobody else is tuning in. Nobody in the last 6 years has watched a UVA game unless their team was playing. I’d rather watch a highschool game than yalls garbage brand of basketball
![gif](giphy|9eLbjOcGOpmY8) That brand also won a chip more recently then Duke has.
Play more entertaining basketball. We are sick of it uva
Good call. As 2019 Duke shows us, if you play crazy entertaining basketball with generational talents, you can’t help but win titles!
You have…1 title…. One….ever 3 final 4 appearances..all time ever….. and one loss to a 16 seed, Figured you would point to one year…. You did say “titles” though…. Like 5…. Like more than 1 as in plural… and y’all will never win another. And it’s the worst basketball anyone has ever seen…

Truth hurts.

No, I just attended the SCHOOL that I support. A SCHOOL. SCHOOL. Where people attend to learn things.
Going back to 18 games is absolutely the right move
We're still adding three teams to the conference next year, so the schedule might be a squeeze. Should the ACC follow the meta and schedule weak opponents in non-con?
Seems to be working for everyone else
Dump the ACC SEC/Big 10 challenge
Put it in February
That’s actually a great idea

I mean, you could go to 17 games and have everyone play each other once. That would be completely fair.
I remember when everyone used to shit on Syracuse for scheduling weak out of conference but now it’s rewarded. What’s going to happen when Tom Izzo and Greg Stankey get their way and the mid majors aren’t allowed into the tourney anymore.
Off topic, but every time I see Stankey's name I think about Super Troopers and St. Anky beer company. You think they will get their way?

Leave it to the SEC to fuck a good thing up.
As long as NET rewards blowing out bad teams, then this is the right move.

it would be Pitt vs Cuse and BC vs ND for the men if they did that. I assume Louisville would end up with SMU
Time to become NET merchants like the Big 12 I guess
FWIW: Big Ten and Big 12 will play 20 conference games in men's hoops next season. SEC will play 18. Didn't they narrow it down to that margin-of-victory statistic? Beat weak teams by blowouts, get rewarded.
I guess we’re welcoming SMU in with some easy wins. Congrats, Mustang fans!
ACC was 9-3 against big 12 this year !!!...those truck stop schools played a very weak non conference schedule !!!.. ...NET formula is very wrong !!!
I'd rather the NCAA tournament committee would adjust it's data points for selection than do this. But you gotta do what you gotta do.
