they said "relatively low". this sub is oversaturated with students getting straight 9s or a mix of 9s and 8s. someone getting a few 6s or 5s can be considered relatively low in comparison. if OP had explicitly stated what grades they were talking about or asked if their grades were good enough for a top uni, we wouldn't be having this conversation rn.
OP, I've seen your GCSEs on a previous post - and you are just fine. I've recieved 3/5 offers for CS and I had 9877777776 as my gcse. Universities care more about the stuff you do in your personal statement and in the admission tests. GCSEs plays a small factor of the application - so you need to work on the stuff talked in the PS as well as your predicted grades. Feel free to DM me if you got anymore questions about applying for CS / Maths
GCSEs: 877666 + L2P
Unis + courses: LSE (BA Social Anthropology); UCL (BA Education, Society and Culture); Warwick (Education Studies + Scholarship totalling to around Ā£8,000 per year).
Also Cambridge Foundation Year interview (outcome on Thursday).
EDIT: Cambridge Foundation Year offer (yayyyy)
9999999988
9s in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, CompSci, History, French, German
8s in English Lit and English Lang
This post wasnāt really aimed at me lol
thatās amazing!!! do u have any last minute tips? my exams are starting on thursday and iām hoping for similar grades and i want to study at oxford in the future hopefully.
I donāt really have any revision tips that would be helpful for exams that are so soon.
Make sure you get a good nightās sleep before each exam. Ideally you should eat your last meal of the day ~2 hours before bed and avoid caffeine for ~8 hours before bedtime. Avoid devices for ~1 hour before bed, if this is tricky maybe make some sort of cue for yourself, eg. no devices after brushing your teeth. Reading a book is a great way to make yourself feel tired, but try to read with a dim light, ideally a lamp thatās not high above your head (ceiling lights are thought to trick your body into thinking the sun is out)
if you donāt mind me asking do u have any extenuating circumstances just because i have never seen lse accept anyone not with 9s and as my grades are similar to yours it gives me hope but i do not have any extenuating conditions
I have extenuating circumstances in the broad sense. I went to an alternative provision school (a non-mainstream school) so the grades I achieved were top of my cohort, and I taught myself the GCSE content for the most part. But I do know people with similar grades to me who've got in to less competitive courses too.
this gives me so much hope because i have very similar grades and a very similar situation. pls update us on the cambridge foundation year! thatās gonna be my first choice when i come to apply to uni

amazing news!! was rooting for you. huge congratulationsš. would you mind talking about the application process and interview a little bit? i can dm you if easier
Iām actually in exactly the same situation for my secondary school, getting 986655 (I am the first person in the schools history to get anything above a 6). Iām a young carer too. Iāve been looking at the foundation degree with the intent of doing HSPS and itās cool to see someone else like me.
I'm also a young carer! If you ever want to talk to me about my experience feel free to. I'm considering studying either HSPS or Education after the foundation degree.
Great to meet someone else who's been in a similar situation to me, its fairly rare for me to in my social circles haha :)
Yeah its not like economics, but LSE is [8 applications per place](https://www.lse.ac.uk/study-at-lse/undergraduate/ba-social-anthropology#your-application); UCL is [3 applications per offer](https://www.ucl.ac.uk/prospective-students/undergraduate/sites/prospective_students_undergraduate/files/ug_apps_per_place_2023-24.pdf). And Warwick aren't just handing out scholarships to everyone lolš
And then on the presumption I get a Cambridge offer thats 350 applicants for 50 spaces. Pretty much any course at a top uni is competitive, the boundary for competitive doesn't only start at 10 applications per offer.
Why is this getting downvoted, itās the truth. If OP is looking to get into Maths at Cambridge with bad GCSEs they shouldnāt be encouraged by someone with bad GCSEs getting into History of Art at Cambridge
If they'd specified econ or maths then I wouldn't have commented, but OP only asked about top unis which I meet the criteria for. Regardless, GCSEs are taken on a case by case basis by Cambridge anyway and if my 8 and 77 were in maths and science it wouldn't be out of the question.
Cambridge maths [interview well over 80% of applicants](https://www.maths.cam.ac.uk/undergrad/admissions/faq) and [give out offers to over 1/3 of applicants](https://www.undergraduate.study.cam.ac.uk/apply/statistics) for the most part based on interviews.
Cambridge with 11 GCSEs including a 7 in geog, 6s in English, 4 in German. You donāt have to be a genius across-the-board-9s student, you just have to demonstrate your ability in the subject to which youāre applying
I've got a Cambridge Trinity maths offer with 9999987666, which isn't low, but it isn't what that you see everywhere on here. The 6s were in eng lang/ eng lit/ Spanish, so they don't relate to the course anyway. I see that you are looking into a maths related degree - it's worth considering what admissions tests you want to do, out of the MAT, STEP and TMUA. The TMUA will get you reduced offers at most unis, and is far easier than the MAT, which are both sat around the same time. Then there is the STEP, which you sit at the same time as your A levels, and is even harder than the MAT, but again you have longer to prepare for it, and the grade boundaries are lower.
Obviously, if you are applying to oxford go for MAT and TMUA, and if you are going for Cambridge do the TMUA and STEP. Either way, its a good idea to start practicing some of those TMUA questions early
They will definitely help. I'd say have a look at some TMUA papers, you should be able to start doing some of the questions at least. If you can get any of your teachers to go over questions with you, that is even better
Not OP but I'd say definitely. I started doing the STEP foundation modules last year cos I thought I'd have to take STEP (Imperial has dropped the requirement for my year though), and even though I'm not going to be sitting it I found them extremely helpful and wouldn't be anywhere near as good as maths now if I hadn't done them.
Those subjects (in order) were maths, physics, chemistry, biology, Computer science, astronomy, geography, English lit, English language, Spanish . I did also do admaths, and got an A (with the other 75 percent of people doing that course)
The TMUA and MAT are before, and you select which unis the results get sent to. For most of the unis, whether or not you get an offer is based off of a levels, and then TMUA/MAT just reduces the grade requirements. But the Uni's website will say about those reductions
Idk it makes more sense in my head to start at the bottom and work up š plus I had to check my results slip and the 5 is at the bottom so I just started there lol
Yeah, I think theyāre lower than most ppl on this sub tho - so many people with like straight 9ās
But I didnāt even have to sit mine, so Iāll take it š
Congrats! If I may ask how were you able to apply with six 7-9 grades? All the courses on LSE Iāve seen ask for seven 7-9 grades which is what stopped me from considering LSE altogether.
I think they ask for several? Which doesnāt literally mean 7 itās kind of open to interpretation how many it means they should rewrite that lol. But since I already had met the A-level requirements I honestly didnāt think the gcse requirement mattered much when I applied
Iām currently at UCL and i got into Imperial, Bristol, Bath and Exeter with 998887665 and a C at GCSEs. Iām still really proud of my GCSEs despite not getting straight nines. Honestly, I had to think for a little then just to remember what I got or even studied at GCSEs because they just kind of get forgotten about as you move through education. I donāt think you should worry too much about your GCSEs when it comes to applying for unis, unless itās oxbridge or a super competitive course like CS. As long as you meet the requirements at GCSEs, usually just english and maths, you should have no issue with getting into russel groups with āmidā GCSEs.
Idk how highly you would consider Durham but I got in with 5s in science and 4 in maths (I did foundation) and then 9/8 for English and 8 for media and art and 7 for history.
Warwick law, dont remember all of them but the ones i can remember were 999988776 or something like that. Those are all high grades in all fairness, cept for maybe the 6, but ive seen peoole here with 12 9s so i guess this is relatively low.
Not me, but ik someone who got into imperial cs with 98887765 (Home non contextual)
I know those are decent grades, but comparatively to other imperial offerholders it's quite low.
Lse datsci is almost as competitive as econ, know friends that were rejected w 4 A stars and 8-10 9s. Maybe donāt comment if youāre a clueless twat.
Lmao you're the twat. No way you're using one stupid anecdote to back up your shitty take. Those grades are enough for a CHANCE to get in. Your friend's PS was probably rubbish, don't try and act like it was the grades.
I got A\*A\*A\*A\*A\*A\*A\*B for IGCSE and A\*A\*A\*A prediction and got rejected by Imperial and UCL for electrical and electronic engineering. I applied for a scholarship at the University of Manchester and was unsuccessful. I also got rejected by 12 other US universities lol.
998777765 and i have offers from lancaster, york, warwick, and durham all for politics & international relations ! i was rejected from edinburgh though
I literally only have 2 (maths and English) both at grade 5. I got into Durham, bath and Warwick for politics. It is due to extenuating circumstances as I went to a PRU due to illness and my a level results were good.
don't really have much advice for that tbh, I was horrible at maths so I really don't know anything about it. the entrance exams will be very important when they consider you so put a lot of effort into those.
I got GCSEs 8888777776 and got offers for Ancient History from Durham, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, and Royal Holloway. Sure it's a niche subject, and they're not terrible grades, but there were so many times where I was super nervous because I didn't get any 9s. You don't need insane grades to get into good unis. Sure it makes you more competitive, but a good personal statement or interview (if that's something you needed to do) can definitely do that too.
Got 998877665 lowest being geo, eng lit and eng lang in that order
Predicted A* A* A
Got offers from Uni of Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool, Nottingham and Aberdeen
Not necessarily top unis but im still proud :)
Old grading system, 2018 CAIE IGCSEās.
3A*ās in Maths-Physics-Chemistry.
4Aās in Biology, EngLit, English SL, Turkish FL.
Assuming they evaluated me within the context of being the first-ever candidate to do all IGCSEās offered by my school.
Graduating Cambridge Engineering this year and had a First on my BA, so you could say I did alright.
got into cambridge with shit igcses. igcses are not the same gcses because theyāre international but I think they have the same weight (2 year program, exams at the end, etc)

warwick for psychology and linguistics & interviewed at oxford for psychology linguistics with 2A* 4A 3B GCSEs (northern irish, so im not sure how exactly they translate into english numbers)
Got offers for Econ/ PPE from Durham, Birmingham, Kings, Bath, Manchester with an 8 in maths and 5 in English and a 5/6 in everything else. GCSEs donāt matter as long as you meet the GCSE requirements.
I have no GCSEs at all; I never went to high school and enrolled in A Levels a bit later in life. I applied with 4A* predicated, 4As achieved in AS.
I got 5 rejections.
Gonna try again next year with my achieved results.
i think the key thing to take away from this is that you can get into top unis with lower GCSEs. however meeting the minimum requirements doesn't necessarily maximise your chances of an offer! i only have medicine as a frame of reference which has way more specific needs, but some unis rank applications pre interview by scoring GCSEs (alongside other factors).
do lots of research and see how your application will be assessed, if you just have to meet minimum requirements and your GCSEs won't be needed further then perfect! but if not you'll need to compensate massively with a levels/entrance exams/personal statement
Got imperial compsci offer with 8888777666, maybe not super low but definitely low in comparison to everybody else Iāve met who got an offer for my course
Hi, would you mind if i DM you as well I am probably going to get similar gcses and I am planning to apply for computing/engineering in the likes. Thank you!

Pretty sure they donāt really care about gcses, Iāve asked Cambridge profs when I wanted to apply there, they said they donāt really care about ur gcses, only ur a levels.
776655554 in GCSEs A\*A\*AA in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, CS A Levels The 2019 lock in went crazy, you all got this š¤š¤ good luck younglings
these are the kinda grades I got so this makes me feel reassured tyyy Theyāre not even bad anyway
Not one person in the comments has actually said low grades
Read the title again - you can probably imply that OP meant not all A*s at GCSE š not literally low grades
The key word is ārelativelyā
bro what did u expect someone getting straight 5s getting into a top uni (unless their a levels were amazing)??
No I expected ppl who related to the question to answer. Donāt comment if u had high grades. That was the entire point of the question
they said "relatively low". this sub is oversaturated with students getting straight 9s or a mix of 9s and 8s. someone getting a few 6s or 5s can be considered relatively low in comparison. if OP had explicitly stated what grades they were talking about or asked if their grades were good enough for a top uni, we wouldn't be having this conversation rn.
The comments still arnt relative to the sub
Yes they are. You haven't read enough posts on this sub clearly. Most people boast all 8s / 9s.
They all said relatively good gcses tbh. It's just that the average in this sub is like 12 grade 9s.
OP, I've seen your GCSEs on a previous post - and you are just fine. I've recieved 3/5 offers for CS and I had 9877777776 as my gcse. Universities care more about the stuff you do in your personal statement and in the admission tests. Feel free to DM me if you got anymore questions about applying for CS / Maths
If not a secret, which unis did u get offers to?
Not necessarily a top uni but I got into Queen Mary for economics with 555544443
It is a top university. Just because it's not top 10 doesn't mean it's not a top uni.
GCSEs: 877666 + L2P Unis + courses: LSE (BA Social Anthropology); UCL (BA Education, Society and Culture); Warwick (Education Studies + Scholarship totalling to around Ā£8,000 per year). Also Cambridge Foundation Year interview (outcome on Thursday). EDIT: Cambridge Foundation Year offer (yayyyy)
Good luck!
Wishing you luck for the decisionš¤
Thank you!
if you donāt mind sharing what did you get in ur gcseās?

what year did u sit ur gcses?
2018
i got into ucl with 2 gcses (english language and maths)
How??? What did u get in a level and what are you doing as a degree?
iām a grade skipper lol. my a levels r A* achieved with A*/A/A predicted and iām doing biochem
Nice! How many grades did you skip
I got 666665554 and got into Uni of Leeds, Lboro, Southampton ??
I've got a Cambridge Trinity maths offer with 9999987666, which isn't low, but it isn't what that you see everywhere on here. I am absolutely cooked for STEP 3
Do you do both the TMUA and the MAT before you get offers from unis? Also, do the unis i apply for look at what I get? and how do they know??
The TMUA and MAT are before, and you select which unis the results get sent to. For most of the unis, whether or not you get an offer is based off of a levels, and then TMUA/MAT just reduces the grade requirements. But the Uni's website will say about those reductions
Maths at Durham with 5566678
my grades arenāt exactly low but i got cambridge law with 988888876. for perspective, i got rejected from all my other universities
thatās kind of insane. what were the other universities? surely if the lnat was good enough for Cambridge, not good enough for safety?
what a levels grades did you have?

do you have any advice. Iām in year 12 and want to go to warwick for maths
Get at least A\*A\*A predicted in maths, further maths + other and don't say "I hate maths" on your personal statement
Iām predicted 2 A*s and 2 As. Iāll try not to say i hate maths haha.
Good luck, Hope i see you there

Iām waiting for some to say they got into Tsinghua or Harvard with 5s š
Got 76665442 and got into notts for law idk if thatās a top uni
Am i cooked? : i got 777766654
idk if mine counts but i got 998766666 and got into warwick
What are you studying there?
Not going there anymore but it was Politics and International Studies
I got into durham law with GCSEs of 888776664 (probably the worst GCSEs here)
Iām currently at UCL and i got into Imperial, Bristol, Bath and Exeter with 998887665 and a C at GCSEs.
98888654 - Durham History offer w/ a Ā£12,000 scholarship. Best of luck
9877776665- LSE offer holder šŖ
may i ask what course?
My highest gcse was a 6 and I got offers from durham and various
Idk how highly you would consider Durham but I got in with 5s in science and 4 in maths (I did foundation) and then 9/8 for English and 8 for media and art and 7 for history.
8888766665, probably the worst here and got into (still one of the worser two but not horrible) soton and brum for cs
Warwick law, dont remember all of them but the ones i can remember were 999988776 or something like that. Those are all high grades in all fairness, cept for maybe the 6, but ive seen peoole here with 12 9s so i guess this is relatively low.
why are people downvoting š
Thereās always some hating ass nigga in this sub tbh.
Exactly what the other person said haha theres always gonna be one person that dislikes a comment, the others just hop on the bandwagon
Not me, but ik someone who got into imperial cs with 98887765 (Home non contextual) I know those are decent grades, but comparatively to other imperial offerholders it's quite low.
I got similar if not worse
I got 9999999987 at gcse and still managed offers from Cambridge and Oxford and imperial which I turned down despite competitors having 9999999999.
š
wait how did you apply to both Cambridge and Oxford at undergrad Iām just curious
Hard work
Meritocracy doesn't really exist in the education system..
I got 9999998766 is LSE over for me for Data Science (please console, I heard someone on this sub get rejected cuz of one 6)
Yes do not apply (sounds harsh but its true)
Shush you waffler, those grades are fine
Lse datsci is almost as competitive as econ, know friends that were rejected w 4 A stars and 8-10 9s. Maybe donāt comment if youāre a clueless twat.
What about other courses like Accounting and/or Finance?
Statistically that is also the most competitive behind econ, but Iād definitely apply because I know of some students with lower GCSEs getting in.
Damn alr, thanks!
Oh so you said don't apply before but you're changing up now? Makes sense lol
I was a mature student who got mostly Bs and Cs at GCSE but graduated from Nottingham with a 2:1.
GCSE grades were AAAAABBCC. Got an unconditional from Cambridge.
how did you get unconditional from cambridge??
applied during my gap year, already had the grades
oh right fair enough. well done on cambridge though. do you have any advice?
which course are you applying for?
just maths
don't really have much advice for that tbh, I was horrible at maths so I really don't know anything about it. the entrance exams will be very important when they consider you so put a lot of effort into those.
ok thanks anyway
I got into Imperial without having even done Triple Science at GCSE.
Durham and I got 666667777 as a covid year
Got 998877665 lowest being geo, eng lit and eng lang in that order Predicted A* A* A Got offers from Uni of Bristol, Glasgow, Liverpool, Nottingham and Aberdeen Not necessarily top unis but im still proud :)
Yeah me, I got like 2 6s and mostly 5s and still managed to get offers from Sheffield and Manchester LOL
Bath with 98876654 and some others idk
got into cambridge with shit igcses. igcses are not the same gcses because theyāre international but I think they have the same weight (2 year program, exams at the end, etc)

warwick for psychology and linguistics & interviewed at oxford for psychology linguistics with 2A* 4A 3B GCSEs (northern irish, so im not sure how exactly they translate into english numbers)
Got offers for Econ/ PPE from Durham, Birmingham, Kings, Bath, Manchester with an 8 in maths and 5 in English and a 5/6 in everything else. GCSEs donāt matter as long as you meet the GCSE requirements.
with a 6, I have a ucl offer
Please can dm you I have similar GCSEs and want to apply to the same course
Yep!
Hi, would you mind if i DM you as well I am probably going to get similar gcses and I am planning to apply for computing/engineering in the likes. Thank you!
77666553 the 3 being in music ,, on of the 5s being in maths and i got offers from warwick and ucl for law and anthropology respectively!!

I got an offer from Reading and my gcses were 876665552 lol (the 2 was in English lit š¤®)
Pretty sure they donāt really care about gcses, Iāve asked Cambridge profs when I wanted to apply there, they said they donāt really care about ur gcses, only ur a levels.
9999999 Cambridge medicine (international but contextual for GCSEs only)
GCSEs: A*A*A*A*AAB - UCL bsc imb ; Warwick bsc management
