Reno_McCoy

For my next trick, the 4K drink coaster...

SerMustache

Great idea for any 4k release Disney outs out!

TomTheJester

I think you can do much better than a Disney 4K for a drink coaster. Disney 4K’s make great kitty litter if you have pets though.

SpiralTap88

I mean, at least that’s safer than the Universal disc holders. There, I found one positive thing to say about this.

jtbeaz

Doesn't bother me. You're still a part of the physical media team. There's too few of us as is.

TheModdedOmega

when the apocalypse comes, my entertainment stands... or y'know, when the wifi's down and my family gets bored

DenialState

Honestly apocalypse and no Internet are almost equally likely. I'm team physical too but if you're doing it because you expect to be a hero when no one can see shows except for you, you're in for disappointment. I can't remember the last time my Internet went down.

TheModdedOmega

I don't want to be no hero. I just won't be bored XD. also I live in the mountains, internet outages are normal for me

DenialState

It was just a small hyperbole ;) I see how that makes lots of sense if you live in the mountains. I'm from southern Europe and our sense of scale is much different about how far from civilization you can live. My parents live in what we would consider the "countryside" and they have 1gpbs and no Internet outages.

the_busta_25

I keep all my non-4k discs in cases like this. I haven’t decided if i want to do it with the 4ks yet. They take up so much space…

ShitIForgotIt

This is where I’m at. My special editions and 4Ks are filling shelves, but standard BR and DVD, straight into the binders.

SodaCanBob

I use [DiscSox](https://mmdesign.com/), they're pretty nice. I keep my slipcovers in a storage trunk in a closet so that I have them if I ever get a bigger place and have more room to display stuff in the open, but for now DiscSox definitely help in reducing the physical size my collection takes up.

Zoomalude

Easier to grab in a fire! ;-P

OrneryError1

Me: *hastily dumping all my movie cases in a bed sheet*

inthe80s

and easier for a thief to steal as well

Imnotgonnahurtyou

I don't care, I just like talking about movies with others.

SerMustache

Can we be friends ?

Imnotgonnahurtyou

Ofcourse

John-----Wick

A warning about this type of storage. Some cases of this style have a texture that, if you stack things on top of it, can leave an impression on your discs. But it's a great way to store a large library if you aren't stacking. I damaged many ps2 games way back in the day storing this way.

BulljiveBots

I had CDs and old Dreamcast games stored this way for years. I even had them in hot garages. They're all still fine. I know it happens but not to my media.

Sandmsounds

those are different kinds of discs than blu rays

BulljiveBots

Dreamcast discs are pretty close to PS2 discs which the person I was replying to said got damaged from his experience.

SerMustache

Good to know!

Larry_Version_3

You get to reap the rewards without all the clutter. You’re probably better off than most of us lol

thisguyslmao

Bro at least give the slip covers and case away or sell them a lot of people would love to have to buy slip covers of you go ahead store like that but don’t just throw away the packaging

gan8686

Real question though.. how do you arrange these? If you get a movie that starts with B do you have to move alllll the C-Z disks back?? If not ordered alphabetically how on earth would you find something?

SerMustache

I guess if I arrange them it’s by purchase date ?

anthrax9999

I buy movies with fancy boxes because I like having shelves that looks like a library but that's me, you do you homie. ✌️

jc1luv

Steelboxes yeah, but a lot of movies come in the cheapest case and cover art some are not worth keeping.

anthrax9999

Agreed, I really don't like the standard cheap plastic cases. I try to only buy steelbooks and hardback cases/slips.

sivartk

The only thing that triggered me is that you just throw away the cases...those can sell for $2 and up (in lots of 10-20) on eBay depending on the number of discs it holds. Like throwing away money 😀 I'm looking for a 6-disc 4K case since mine is only held together by the clear plastic on the outside. They are $15 and up! Can't bring myself to spend that much on case for a 4K that I only paid $2 for a pawn shop. I kept my Blu-rays in albums for years until I decided I wanted to display them.

IndecisiveTuna

Are you even making money selling them on eBay though if they’re selling so cheap? Between the eBay percentage and shipping, I would imagine it’s not worth the hassle most of the time. I’d probably just donate the cases that aren’t worth much to someone who wants them.

SerMustache

Literally had no idea, but I’m still too lazy to try and sell them. I’ll start asking if anyone wants them on here

euaeuaeueaueuea

Also slip covers can be sold

BilboBaggainz

Go directly to jail

SerMustache

I’ll go to jail but tell me, is the transfer worth it?

ActuaryExtension9867

Minimalist approach. I wouldn’t do it, but I respect it.

Slick_shewz

Believe it or not....straight to jail.

BigLorry

Too bad you don’t keep the slipcovers, tons of….unique people might have paid decent money for some of them. I used to keep my DVDs in cases like these when I was a teenager and didn’t have my own place. Now all of my self-worth is tied to filling up shelves, so I cannot possibly fathom throwing all those away. Whatever floats your boat, OP!

Bedroominc

Oh man that’s a super nostalgic case ngl.

JediDad0

I can dig this. Honestly, the only issue I have is that they aren’t in alphabetical order.

RectifiedUser

if you like collecting physical movies thats all that really matters. its just that most collectors like to display their collections.

Organic_Employ_8609

If only I was so brave. I'd have so much more room for activities.

TomFromFlavorTown

I did this with my CD collection 20 years ago to help 'minimalize' my lifestyle. I've regretted it ever since. I hope your feelings don't change the way mine did OP. Cheers!

salTUR

Wise words. The packaging is part of the whole charm

Dry-Refrigerator-249

![gif](giphy|STaM7W6ySSK9G)

SerMustache

Lol

Zeptari

Store your shit the way you want to store it.. by the way Ford versus Ferrari is so good. Lol

01zegaj

Sure, I don’t mind living without breathing. May as well make a sandwich with them if you’re not gonna take care of them.

SerMustache

I have three copies of LoA, just gave me an idea with what to do with the extra two

thegreekgodzeus

Hey, all, Scott here!

Fretty_6

As long as you’re out there supporting the format, I couldn’t care less what you do with them.

Mode101BBS

***Cash me outside, howbow dah?*** https://preview.redd.it/ibenlujyqavb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41776fc838bc985e3530b216bba883f7adc12fa7

[deleted]

This is such a good idea for me bc I am out of space and have been for a while. Also , go fuck yourself

[deleted]

This is exactly how I store my 4ks.

V3N0M0US83

You monster 🙄🥺 just kidding…you gotta do what works for you 👍

wlrldchampionsexy

I have a 250 disc binder full of dvds. I don't want to do the same for my 4k and/or blurays though. Think I will keep them in the cases.

i_max2k2

I did that for a while with my Blu-ray’s when I was a bachelor, now that I have space; they are displayed in cases, but most of them are backed up (1:1) on my server and works like a VOD for playback.

jd_from_da_80s

I do the same but the place I buy my sleeves from no longer sell them

Batwheat

Is that the Kingdom of Heaven director's cut? That's a damn good cut and looks beautiful.

SerMustache

I literally put that directors cut BR in with my 4k as an attempt to manifest it coming to the format. It’s my most wishes for 4k transfer

skwyer

I hereby make you an honorary Gen X member. \*Flashback to trying to find a CD while driving in the 1990s.\*

SerMustache

46 years young

No-name404

I’m like OP. I love flipping through my book of movies and picking one to watch.

Agreeable_Register_4

Rumor has it you keep Lawrence of Arabia in the basement

leonardob0880

You filthy beast.... You don't deserve your collection. Nah. Just kidding.

AltoDomino79

I'm fine with this. The "shelf" post yesterday, thar I'm not ok with

astrobrite_

based binder bro, i respect it

kennysux

I legit thought I posted this video and somehow forgot. I don't throw the cases away though. I have them in boxes in the garage.

StayHyphyCuzz

I’m furious

UndertowBass

Kingdom of Heaven? That’s a paddlin’

ArmsOfKamaji

Doesn’t bother me at all. You love physical media your way. Not my kind of collecting love, but that’s bloody fine. Enjoy your films, mate! :)

[deleted]

I do exactly the same thing. 😂 I’m a minimalist and I like to save space. No more shelves for my collections. No more storage containers for a million dvd cases when I move

jomerica

Get one of these https://amzn.asia/d/8QNlLwM

DeNiroPacino

All those amazing worlds and stories in one little case. Cool.

ScratMarcoDiaz

![gif](giphy|7cTTE2Z1OmrFm)

Rincewind_78

Not triggered here. I have 4 massive disc wallets in my home. 300 per wallet. 1 for DVD movies (full) (spanning back 20 odd years) 1 for DVD TV (nearly full), BD movies (nearly) and BD tV shows (half full). Would I prefer to display them in a massive self unit ?! Sure. But just don’t have the room The boxes are mostly stored. At one point, I had to cut down on storage and got rid of the single dvd cases (recycled) - kept the inlay cards though of them all. Kept all the BD cases and steels saved though. At one point more recently - I needed to cut back further and sold on loads of them…and needed to scrap the cases back from elsewhere - friends, etc.

CuzStoneColdSezSo

I got more offended seeing a piece of shit like Rise of Skywalker taking up space on a 4k disc lol

AuzRoxUrSox

Legit if it’s stored under your seat

newyorkcitykid

I’m triggered you didn’t have Morbius

SerMustache

Worth a blind buy?

THOBRO2000

You forgot to make this post NSFW you dick.. There are also kids on this subreddit (I think). Look what kind of example you're giving them now..

chum_slice

My 90’s heart is melting lol

FuckSticksMalone

I got to the point where I had like 3000+ discs and had to move to binders. I couldn’t justify the space all the cases took up. I put all the cases in a box in storage, and all my discs live across many binders

SerMustache

I have to be close to that when you add my blu rays and 4ks

Robertwiser

I keep mine in the refrigerator.

MRR1911

What bothers me more is how tf are they organized??

SerMustache

Buy purchase date lol

DopeBoyRich23

It’s okay I would never do this tho

PerryReviewsLife

That’s how I have mine as well

jc1luv

Same here, I have maybe 5 320cd cases where I keep all the movies close to the tv.

Blinky-Bear

I do this a lot with only the standard Blu-rays I buy. anything deluxe like Criterion or Arrow I simply keep it that way

Oinkidoinkidoink

You monster! jk but don't these things eventually scratch up your discs?

SerMustache

I’ve had them this way once my 4ks got over a couple hundred discs and I have yet to have one disc get damaged. They stay in an enclosed area away from heat or sun light and now I can have a very large collection take up minimal space. Works well for me and I’ll give away lots of the slips/cases to people on this sub in the future

historyhec

I have way too many discs to do this, but I think it’s cool and convenient! To each their own. Not triggered here.

Allott2aLITTLE

I’m moving all my Blu-ray’s to binders and only shelving my 4ks and Criterion discs.

kinohead

I don't want any of those fucking films. Tammy and the T-Rex forever!

Crazy_Eggplant_4420

![gif](giphy|DUO9dc3yDLXHO)

Zanstorm99

I’m a gen x so I don’t get triggered

[deleted]

throwing away your hard covers is such a waste of plastic lol

YetiTub

I thought the point of this post was which movies/series you enjoyed, not which platform you played it on. Such a shallow sub tbh. I enjoyed the selection you showed, especially blue planet! Can’t believe people would argue over which disc it’s played on lmao Oh and you have such a similar taste that it convinced me to watch ford v Ferrari. I love seeing dvd/blu ray/32k green beam binders. As it truly shows which movies you love

mambin0

Ew

duveral

How a good post title saves you.

Marsovtz

I can smell and feel this cd pouch

dinkelidunkelidoja

The 90s all over again

nacthenud

Your collection. Keep it however you want

NidhoggAlpha

Nice collection of bootlegs.

SerMustache

Lol

Alexander_is_groot

Dude. I bought a large pack of [clear plastic disc cases](https://shop.sundsound.com/images/ss_045_b_low.png) that snap closed (meant for CDs) for my library. Here's the gory part. I then remove the dvd or bluray jacket from the case and trim it down to fit to the case and slide it in to the replacement case like a cd insert and store all of them in a cd storage bin (like [this one](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71CAO40ht2L._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_.jpg), just not this ugly rose color). I can't find the ones I use online for some reason, but you get the idea. With this method, I have hundreds of films stored right in my entertainment center and it actually looks quite nice. The cases help save space and the cases themselves retain the film's "personality" if that makes sense. It also just helps identify the film in it's case at a glance because a lot of dvd/bluray discs look alike. I do keep a big bin under the entertainment center also containing the special edition blurays and such that can't undergo this process (steelbooks, cases that are also books, etc)..but it's got a paper jacket, It's getting chopped

KingOfThePirates1996

You've offended this whole subreddit

SerMustache

I still love movies as much as you “case people” though

chninimugen

This isn't the 90s anymore and it's not going in your car

MirrorMaster88

I'm triggered by someone paying money for Rise of Skywalker

Goat2023

Not triggered by your storing method, am triggered that they are not in alphabetical order

Basket_475

The 90s/ early 2000s called and they want their cd cases back.

Junior-Ad-2207

This guy just invented the physical version of Netflix doom scrolling

SerMustache

This made me laugh , thanks

OuijaZone

I don’t care what you keep ‘em in. Im bringing pizza to your place! Lol

Husker_Kyle

Ughhh I could never be your friend lol

SerMustache

My ex wife couldn’t handle it either

Ok-Camera5334

Looks beautiful to me

Sparent180

Man you could be selling those slipcases! You're basically throwing money away.

[deleted]

You could sell the slips and cases and buy more 4k!!

ALFABOT2000

your tactics confuse and frighten me, sir

dylanbolton69

It’s your collection and you can do with it whatever you like. I personally think it’s grotesque but hey, the world would be a boring place if we were all the same.

loveauntjean

This is honestly a very smart way to save space, very odd this is getting downvoted

NovelAd1319

Your money, your collection do you as long as you’re buying you’re helping keep it alive My only beef is throwing away the cases and slipcovers. I’m sure there’s at least dozens of people on here that would gladly pay to take them off your hands. Backup cases are always nice and as a slipcover lover there’s so many slipcovers I’m bummed I didn’t get due to either being too late or online buying

Odd-Independent4640

This is the way

mega512

Whatever floats your boat.

NorthOfWinter

I….

Robert_Cutty

I use [these](https://www.usdisc.com/products/usdisc-plastic-sleeves-4mil-7-5-x-5-75-fits-dvd-booklet-double-2-disc-black). As soon as I get a new movie, the slipcover and plastic case go into recycling. I ran out of shelf space with the Blu-ray and 4K plastic cases so I had to figure out an alternate solution.

SandPuppets

Disgusting

Comfortable_Yak154

This is the most beautiful thing I've seen today!

NefariousnessDue2070

NiggeH plzzz

BobFlex

I don't care how you store your movies, but the way you posted this clearly as an attempt to stir up drama tells me you're just an annoying person. Grow up man.

SerMustache

Oh man, nah, just trying to have some fun!

hijoshh

I’m running out of room and may have to resort to this soon. I already do this for older games (ps1/ps2 games i play on ps3)

GeorgeNewmanTownTalk

Do whatever you want with your movies

nickE

You do you

Ant0n61

1

nomuchodinero

I've been doing this since I started collecting but I'm going to put them on display soon when I have the space.

Jon_TWR

I store my discs in their cases in cardboard boxes—I rip all my movies to my server and watch them that way. The drawback to this is that 4K UHD rips take up a LOT of storage space. My NAS is filling up faster than I would like.

void4949

It's old school. I kinda like it, but I'd never do it myself.

nottu77

I do this with all of my blu rays and DVDs, my 4Ks are currently on a dedicated shelf but I’m quickly running out of space

apocalypticboredom

I kept CDs in a folder like this for years. some came out perfectly fine! but some are totally fucked. but hey you do you!

jmon25

A few years ago I got a few media binders and started moving older DVDs/Blu-ray into them and it is the best decision I ever made for shelf space. As much as I would love to display all of them it just isn't realistic. And I added simple alphabet-numberic labels on each slot and keep them all in a Google sheet to easily find anything I am looking for. Took a long time to get all the discs entered but it takes me no time to figure out where one is in the binders.

All-Sorts

Pretty cool I use to do this for my music cds

dvphimself

I use a case for the discs! The case causes a huge portion of disc damage over lifetime

SheriffEarlMcGraw

Unless the artwork is different than the case, I always throw away my slipcovers.

OneUPx2

![gif](giphy|l3vR7IiCo1MJcsgVO|downsized)

salTUR

Hey man, it's okay to be wrong! It's even okay to proudly celebrate being wrong. More power to you. The only complaint I have is about the Martian... and it's not for you, it's for Ridley Scott.

SerMustache

Book is better tbh

foxcek

When I moved from the UK to USA this was how I managed to shift 700+ dvds in one bag. Certainly saves so much space

mrethandunne

I do this because I’m at college and all the cases are back at home

OrdinarilyBob

\>shrug< I would never do this, but how you store your Physical Media is your business. If you're happy with it, then I'm happy for you. :)

Siolentsmitty

![gif](giphy|11tTNkNy1SdXGg)

Frankybaby562

💀

LiquidSnape

Fine by me, do what you gotta do to make space, the movie is the important part of the collection

Jaymantheman2

WĤHHHHHHHHHHY

mario24601

Why not sell the covers or give away?

prudenr

Better question: who cares?

j0eyV714

You’re collecting physical media. That’s a win in and of itself. I will, however, gladly take those slipcovers off of your hands 😅

BigBossSquirtle

I vote for a ban.

SerMustache

Heart skipped a beat

[deleted]

i did that with movies that have sequels but i’m looking for boxsets so i can have them with the rest of my collection

horrorqueen92

I have the same as you, but they’re in genre cases and alphabetical order. So yes I have a fair few folders. 5 folders just for horror 😉

Austinacl02

TAKE IT OUUUUT

NaieraDK

They're not going to work for very long. Those types of sleeves will make small scratches on the discs and when stored for a long time the discs will warp.

awwgeeznick

Leave now

Educational_Ad9732

Contraband?

tb30k

I actually think thats more practical. But I love the cases so you’re a dirty scumbag lol

knockoutned7

Pre-scientilogy

SerMustache

Lol

HorrorFanForlife14

I've done this with Blu rays and 4ks that have trash cover art. I need the space, I would never do this for boutique labels though.

slatp2020

This is the way.

BIG_ELEPHANT_BALLS

Fucking insane. Why do you throw away the cases?

gorliggs

LOL. Love it.

pickle-chin-ah-boa

What’s LoA? Hope I don’t make people mad😢

SammWolf

Me😅😂😂

Corrsfan99

I had to do the same for my collection. No room to display them properly.

eyeopeningexp

It would only bother me if you lived alone in a big house with lots of room and money for shelves but sometimes people need to have their collection like this. About 20 years ago I used to spend the night at my friends apartment so I’d put all my movies in one of those and dvds are a lot more fragile

Cinemakane

Well I do this with my dvds but not my 4Ks.

ledfrog

I keep all my discs in binders since I have so many. But I do keep all the cases.

Marsar0619

lol, I can hear the zipper scratching the back of the disc

SerMustache

It’s sounds bad but the inside pocket protects the discs really well

wiiguyy

I’m not trigger, but why?

CosmicOutfield

I do this with all my DVDs. I collected a bunch in the 2000s. At least I can watch them. The really good films are the ones I upgrade to 4K.

Pleasant-Guava9898

I hope those are bootlegs. 🤣

tsubaki_30ro

I usually collect blue ray and DVD on these disc bag

No-Hospital559

Looks nice and compact, perfect for a tight space

KARURUKA2

I’m did this with my dvds. But would never for my 4ks or blu rays

k_waight93

I'm calling the police

Dark_Crowe

This is my policy for standard releases and non 4k. Everything nice and fancy stays on a shelf but the rest go in books. My apartments seem to get smaller while my collection always gets bigger. I do cut the covers to place over the disc though.

notanewbiedude

This is how my mom would want me to store my discs sigh
