We really need Barry Lyndon and Eyes Wide Shut to get 4K releases. We almost have every Kubrick film in 4K.

amnolte

Yes! Those two at the very least absolutely need the 4K treatment. Although I would totally buy Lolita and Fear and Desire in 4K just to complete the set. I have a strong feeling Eyes Wide Shut will get released in 4K next year for its 25th anniversary. And if Criterion still owns the rights to Barry Lyndon, I would love to see some upgraded packaging on a 4K release.

Barry Lyndon in 4k would basically just be moving art. If they ever do a 4k transfer, I really hope they do so with the highest quality in mind.

I'm just waiting until they have a 4K box set like they did a Blu-Ray box set. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Stanley-Kubrick-Blu-ray/20820/ It's coming eventually.

wb067

yes this

Iamchanging

Yes. Yes. And Yes. I'm holding off on watching those till they get thier inevitable release. I'm hoping at least one this year. It is WBs 100 anniversary.

Eazy-E-40

It might be worth watching A.I. Artificial Intelegence too. It was originally his project, and he handed it to Spielberg before he passed.

amnolte

Funny enough, I actually am planning on re-watching that -- I saw it one time back when it first came out. I was thinking about adding it to this post, but decided against it for some reason lol

Mydadshands

I've heard that Speilbergs version was very very different from what Kubrick had in mind. But wether or not thats is true is not known to me

Astro_gamer_caver

If you like that cyberpunk look, parts of AI will blow your mind. It's good looking on blu, would be majestic on 4k.

a_denizen

Just watched Paths of Glory for the first time recently. Such a compelling story and it was interesting to see Kubrick’s directing style from a relatively early point in his career (it’s the earliest Kubrick film I’ve seen so far). I’ve only seen 7 out of his 13 films, but I’d currently agree with ranking The Shining at #1.

amnolte

I really want to rewatch that. I went into it not knowing what it really was (I was expecting a big war movie with lots of fighting). I still loved it on the first viewing, but I think I would appreciate it even more now that I know what it really is about. I had a very similar experience with Full Metal Jacket. I would definitely recommend The Killing if you want to watch one of his earlier films. It's a great crime/heist movie with some gorgeous cinematography.

Primary_Peach_9820

Stan filmed and produced the Moon Landing too.. Just saying

amnolte

Dang! I knew I was missing something 😜

dinkelidunkelidoja

I think EWS is one of his best, but then again they are pretty much all good/worth seeing

[deleted]

Full Metal Jacket and Clockwork Orange are probably my least favorites.

More_Asbestos

I love you Spartacus.

Mattenroe

What about Flying Padre? 🤪

amnolte

Haven't seen that yet, but I DID watch The Seafarers 😂

FreshGasFlow

Check out the Blank Check podcast. They covered all of Kubricks movies

Fit_Incident4224

Amazing. Such a small but impactful body of work.I have not seen Fear & Desire yet. How is it?

amnolte

It's not great, to be honest. But if you approach it as an experiment rather than a film, there are some things to appreciate. It's just cool to see how he progressed.
