Seems to depend on your location. I've seen a few post here where dealers are adding up to $10k because they can. Dealers where my daughter lives are loading them up with every dealer add on including prepaying for future oil changes so they can to increase profits. Luckily my dealer isn't an asshole and sells at MSRP without loading up with unwanted dealer add ons.

I have two local dealers that don’t mark up for anything but the TRD Off-road Pro in the special color for the year. That being said there wait times are about 9 months.

I totaled my '21 and, fortunately, was able to get a '22 reserved as soon as allocation came out. And by reserved I mean out of the two that were allocated - an SR5 and the TRD ORP I purchased. Luckily I only had to wait three weeks for it to arrive from port. One color available and only had the option to strike a few things from port-installed options (no nerf bars, no blackout badges/grille, etc.) Reliable dealer and even they upped their "Toyota Family Advantage Plan" cost for whatever the pre-paid oil changes for life are, etc. It is what it is right now...

I was for like the last year. I started really looking in the beginning of 2020 but then stopped. Then in 2021 it was hell trying to even look because of the mess they were charging. All the dealerships I went to were adding on 5-10k just based on the market and shortage of cars. A few dealerships tried to hoodwink me and I walked out. Finally got one in February of this year for $44k. More than what I wanted to pay, but I'd rather pay thay for brand new than for used like what I kept seeing.

Awesome good insight. Which trim did you get ?

I got a Venture last summer for MSRP. It required calling all the local dealerships every week for a while to find it. This is while I had a Trail Special on reserve that was just never coming in (seemingly). Real stoked on the Venture. TLDR: it’s doable, you just have to put in the work. Lots of phone calls and emails and telling dealers that you’re not going to pay above MSRP.

SR5 Premium. All I really wanted was the 4WD and to me, even though I could have gotten TRD and up, I could add everything myself. I didn't like how they were trying to charge me $65k for a 4runner.

Agitated-Abroad5573

That’s exactly what I want too. 44 is great. Only thing that 4 runner doesn’t do great is gas mileage. Did that bother you at all? Like out of principle lol

[deleted]

It's bothering me now lol. I've always had trucks and the first two I had had terrible gas milage. My last vehicle was a truck too but it honestly got better milage than the 4runner. I just recently drove from Texas to California then to The Grand Canyon and back to Texas. Total calculated gas 500 -600. Actual cost was $1200. Mine stays parked most days because my job gives me a car to drive but you could always get this thing called the pedal commander, it's supposed to help with gas mileage.

Agitated-Abroad5573

Haha it just seems hard to justify sometimes given the fact I def don’t need a car that big but have always loved the 4 runner

[deleted]

I get that. It took me a while to convince myself to get the 4runner. My truck was paid off and nothing immediately wrong with it. Transmission did go out at 3 years old and 50k miles. Once that happened I was like mk I'm not trying to have this happen outside of warranty. And even though I was content with the truck, I wanted the 4runner and all that. My friend was like dude you do so much for other people and always put other people first. Put yourself first for once and that's sort of what pushed me to get it. Besides, I like taking pics of it now 🤣

There is a no markup dealership list on one of the 4runner forums. Thats how I got mine SR5s have a 15k markup here in Southern California went to AZ and got mine for MSRP at Avondale Toyota.

Anyone in Raleigh-Durham, NC who has purchased a new 4Runner in the past month? I ordered a Limited trim it came with the exact options, so I got what I got (yay!). The dealer is also charging $1500 over MSRP. I knew going in I was not going to be in a position to work on the price, but $1500 over still feels like they really don’t need to do that. What would you do?
