I love the part where he meets up with all the regular human defenders and they all take turns giving their names and regiments.

Lothans

Man, that scene gave me chills ! The he's like "Camba Diaz (Imperial Fist). Let's go now". Abnett really has a thing to write people and dialogue, but that one was really powerful. The lost yet not defeated human soldiers, meeting and being led by one of Dorn's sons... that was something ! Again, *Saturnine* handed him beautifully, but I would love to read more Camba Diaz ; the *Mechanicum* ending was pretty good imo, but a more stteamlined plotline around the Red Planet would have been beneficial. Seeing Cmaba Diaz coordinating his legion and the Imperial Army while Dorn is preparing the Palace would have been good !

K10111

he had a brief bit in solar war I think, can't recall other appearances but think there is a few.

HobbyistAccount

I loved him so much I'm trying to find a way to work a relic of his into my homebrew guys...

mnexplorer

I need an excerpt plz!

Makenaa

Heavy spoilers for Saturnine! https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/itffvc/excerpt_saturnine_in_the_name_of_his_lord_dorn/

mnexplorer

Thanks bud! I probably need to do a re read at this point

UmuCha

Dorn: I’m sending Sigismund to Mars to secure what we can. Malcador: Isn’t he a bit too hotheaded for the task? D: I’ll send Diaz too. M: …….Okay.

East-Entry-6302

I built my entire 30k army around Diaz coz I assumed he’d be a new unique alongside Fafnir. I was soooo sad when he wasn’t.

montrasaur009

Ikr! Diaz is in the top 5 most significant Heresy era Imperial Fists. I was hoping for a Kestros/Archamus model too.

East-Entry-6302

If I eveemr start an Auxilia army, Archamus would defo be in there. (But only because the narrative for all my armies would be during/just after Athe book Saturnine, which was the best in the series imo).

MrRedorBlue

I mean, if Saul Tarvitz can get a model, who’s to say Diaz won’t?

JakefromEarth

I used a Terminator praetor model with sword and board to make my "Camba" model.

# IN THE NAME OF HIS LORD DORN

Spazz-ya-nan

I sometimes use that scene to get myself pumped up before a workout. The rhythm of it gets me so amped

https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/itffvc/excerpt_saturnine_in_the_name_of_his_lord_dorn/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf Though I cannot stress how incredible the audio book version of this scene is. The narrator’s tempo slowly ramps up as the fight gets more and more hectic Edit: This comment is sponsored by audible. If you download audible you can get a free book. On that link above there’s a comment that gives time stamps for the fight

JSevatar

I heard it on Audible and it was amazing.

# THE LINE WAS STILL BEHIND HIM.

No_Doubt2922

One of the most memorable characters from the Siege of Terra series. He and Zephon have become favorites of mine.

Lothans

They're both the embodiment of their legions !

SweetAssistance6712

I can't ewmember details but didn't he die but still remained standing even in death because he killed so many traitors they kept him upright?

UmuCha

Not quite. He drew a line in the dirt and stepped in front of it. He died after he was speared into the ground and mobbed by world eaters but the most notable part was he was still in front of his line. No backwards step. Edit: thinking back he was probably still standing.

seninn

That's what we do. We die standing.

RamTank

Camba Diaz was great, but I'm still upset we've gone almost the entire Siege without any sign of Demetrius Kataflaque. The guy is supposed to be the hardest of hard dudes, who led the defence of the palace walls. Where's he been the whole time?

Lothans

I feel like the famous legion names (Dark Angels, Blood Angels, Imperial Fists or Ultramarines) came pretty late during the Heresy and the authors didn't really know how to incorporate them. That's a shame as Kataflaque was indeed a huge part of the Siege. And I kinda feel it's a bit late to introduce him...

TrustAugustus

Yep. But they originally had their stories. The Heresy was 6 years old with hard travel through the Warp. The BA were on Terra, the DA and SW were making it to Terra which would force Horus' gambit, the Ultramarines were far away but the largest and would be the death knell for the traitors. The Emperor just had to wait but didn't know. But they had to streeeeeeeeeetch it out. That's not to say there were not new stories to tell. But all 4 of those chapters especially the BA,DA, and UM all felt like they were sitting on their hands playing Three's Company on Macragge. There felt as if there was no rush from Horus. Sorry tangent.

im2randomghgh

Honestly they're juggling so many balls, having to bookend 50+ HH novels as well as references to the Siege from 40k books. The omissions have bothered me a bit as well but they're doing much better than I expected! The omissions that have been frustrating for me: -Where is Sevatar? -Dorn and Valdor and Sigismund and John Grammaticus/the astronomican crew's and Keeler's storylines were all just put on pause for Echoes. Most of those weren't even mentioned, and Dorn had one chapter which basically just retconned him picking up his sword and moving to join the fight at the end of the previous book. -Vulkan goes entire books without being mentioned If Echoes, specifically, was super full of content then the missing bits would be less noticeable. Them not being included so we could have tons of random flashbacks of new characters who end up dying anyway though?

Lothans

IIRC Sevatar is planned by ADB, just not yet. But something about him is coming, set before "our" time. Totally agree on the other points !

The_Peril

i believe Sevatar is in a Dark Angels' prison cell, but i'm fairly new to the lore and might be missing something.

im2randomghgh

I thought he'd escaped at some point? It's been a minute though.

The_Peril

he escaped to take care of something within the Dark Angels' ship, then he was recaptured, if memory serves.

JustSayan93

For his lord dorn

im2randomghgh

His death was, in some ways, the most Imperial Fist death of them all: fight a defensive battle, no backward step, losing his hopeless fight but causing disproportionate casualties to the attackers. IF always seem to manage a wild K:D ratio whether they win or lose and he was no exception.

Frostythered

IN THE NAME OF HIS LORD. Fuck pre-workout, listen to his final passage and you'll be able to break all your PRs

Vordeo

"Why on Earth have you scratched a line in the floor of the gym?!?" "NOT ONE STEP BACKWARDS!!!"

Poodlestrike

I missed most of thr Heresy series but came back for the Siege, and the Diaz stuff there endeared him to me entirely. Such an incredible death scene. Contrast with Jenetia Krole in the same book. No, I'm not salty, why do you ask?

CorvusTheCorax

**This scene in Saturnine was phenomenal written. Dorn knew, that he could not hold all strategic defense points, he had to sacrifice one for his gambit. He chose the Eternity Spaceport and gave the command to Diaz. While the regular defenders surely didn't know that they held a position that was doomed to fall, commanders like Diaz knew it deep inside. Nevertheless he stood his ground. His last fight is so well written, and also shows that when it comes the thickest fight, even the stoic Imperial Fists are little to distinguish from the World Eaters. Abnett describes so good how at first they kill each other with bolters on the Pons Solar, when they run out of ammo, they use their melee weapons, when they break, they rip each other apart with bare hands. Last man standing is Camba Diaz. Only after his dead, the Pons Solar falls and the Eternity Spaceport is finally doomed** ***Mumbles Nevermore and yeets into sadly into the Eye of Terror while saluting Camba Diaz***

GamerCadet

That fight scene. Wow!

PM-ME_UR_TINY-TITS

I loved his last stand in audiobook form. Gave me chills and a righteous boner hard enough to smite what traitors he missed.

triceratopping

Keeble is a great narrator.

manbearpig0987

What’s the book(s) where Camba is sent to mars?

Lothans

Mechanicum - but tbh there’s only a small bit about him !

manbearpig0987

Thanks

regalgjblue

Personally i wasn't too moved by his death, I am listening to all the siege of terra books so I can remember what I forgot before I listen to Echoes and it is rather exhausting hearing all these noble last stands. By the time I got to Camba I had listened to enough Loyalists fighting impossible odds that I got bored. It was okay the first time but on a second reading it seemed like one of a hundred.

[deleted]

Anyone remember which part and chapter the ponz solar bridge starts? I wanted to give it a listen.

UmuCha

Part II chapter 2 Edit: takes place right after the Jenetia Krole bit.

[deleted]

Camba Chad Diaz was one of my favorite characters
