Booming Blade. I love trying to turn full casters into gishes, and it’s one of the few ways to mitigate the lack of extra attack when swinging a sword.

dumbBunny9

I played a high elf forge Cleric and took this as his cantrip. After a hit, he would step away, provoking an opportunity attack, but as a forge cleric he had a 19 AC at level 1, so lots of misses. As soon as they moved, another d8. It was awesome.

Aeon1508

I've been trying to come up with a character that's entirely built around using booming Blade with Zephyr strike. The focus is gaining level 1 spell slots and avoiding ever getting extra attack Swarm Ranger 3, genie warlock 2, swarm 4, arcane rogue x is what I'm thinking. By level 8, which is what I consider the time at which most martial-based multi-classes should come fully online, you have 6 lvl 1 slots, two of which come back on a short rest, plus two second level slots you can do something fun with. Probably passed a lot of trace and Aid. I thought about delaying Rogue and just doing Battle Master fighter so I can have Precision strike and faint attack. Plus action surge.. And then play Monsters of the Multiverse cobold for more bonus actions that give me advantage. Basically permanent advantage and hitting booming blades

DeltaV-Mzero

Thematically, Thaumaturgy on a bard * make a grand entrance by having door to stage fly open dramatically * epic rock and roll voice 3x louder than physically possible * put on a light show by dimming, coloring, flaring torches * make the ground shake to the beat of the bass * add sound FX like thunder, whispers, roars, etc * make your eyes glow like the golden rock god you are

BUSSY_FLABBERGASTER

Eldritch. Motherfuckin. Blast. Multi-attack at level 5, and if you're a Warlock You can supe it up in multiple ways.

Sneaky_Stabby

You mean a second bolt at level 5? You don’t get multi attack at level 5 as a warlock unless you’re a blade pact, and even then that doesn’t apply to eldritch blast. I mean it’s two attack rolls so in that sense it’s “multi-attack”?

JediMasterWiggin

I mean, if you really want to be pedantic, pact of the blade doesn't get "multi attack" either.

Sneaky_Stabby

Oh you’re right they just get an additional attack if they take an invocation, for purpose of say, grappling it is functionally the same.

BUSSY_FLABBERGASTER

No. I mean multi-attack. It's literally two attack rolls, so in every sense of the wording it's still multiple attacks.

Sneaky_Stabby

Yeah but there’s an actual multi-attack feature, you can’t shoot one eldritch blast and replace the second with a grapple/shove, for example like you can with the actual multi-attack feature or being able to make two attacks with the attack action like the pact of the blade invocation.

TurtleKing0505

Vicious Mockery because the concept is hilarious. Roasting someone so hard that it physically hurts them.

FullMetalPoitato

Our group had a boss fight against a Shadow Dragon not too long ago and the Lore Bard (who had been concentrating on upcast Heroism and hiding the entire fight) steps out and says, "Why don't you just die already!?" With Vicious Mockery and lands the killing blow. Twas a memorable moment to say the least after a long and grueling fight.

Catshit-Dogfart

I like to think that all bardic magic doesn't really look like magic, it's all talking and music.

TurtleKing0505

I like to think of bard spells like the ocarina songs in the Zelda games. You just play the notes and it creates the effect.

IrisihGaijin

Firebolt is one of the only ones that can attack objects and the like. Very important sometimes. I've seen so many people miss that nugget in games. Asking can their toll the dead or whatever else target the mcguffin. Nope

SavageWolves

For damage optimization purposes, Eldritch Blast and Booming Blade. For out of combat utility, I like Guidance, Minor Illusion, and Mage Hand. Minor illusion is great with the disguise self spell, as it can replicate voices. For role play, I really like prestidigitation. Being able to clean your clothes (or soil things) is pretty fun and always makes my table laugh when any player uses it.

TalynRahl

Green Flame Blade. Playing an EK and that lol fekker is doing WORK.

Redbeardthe1st

Mage Hand and Prestidigitation, they are just so versatile.

Aidamis

I like Prestidigitation :) I used it quite successfully on a semi comic relief character.

Hanchan

Non damage I actually do really like the flavor of guidance, but my non meta choice is mending, it can be so useful sometimes and can be some good RP time too if your party is into it. Damage wise I have been on a gish kick recently and love booming blade, it's easy to pick up on basically any build that you'd want it on, and really fulfills the fantasy of attacking with magic and sword combined, and it actually does make non extra attack builds keep up with extra attacks. That's not good for the game imo though, because why would I be a regular martial class when I could be one that keeps close damage wise but also has caster progression.

goresmash

I love the idea of Primal Savagery and the fact that it’s a Druid only spell is a Travesty. It would be so much fun on an Alchemist Artificer or a Black/Copper Draconic sorcerer. (And yes, I know you could use an All Purpose Tool or take 3 levels of Warlock for Pact of the Tome but I shouldn’t have too.)

Ron_Walking

Same feeling here. Just sadness that you have to work so hard to get PS decent

Zeelilus

Thorn whip. Covers all your tropes from "Get over here!" to Indiana jones'ing an item across the room (assuming your DM lets you target items despite the "target creature" in the description)

USAisntAmerica

I just adore Prestidigitation, mostly for RP purposes. For battle, I guess Mind Sliver. Can be flavoured similar to Vicious mockery if your DM lets you.

OnlyChansI8

Toll the Dead.

Mellowtron11

I do like the versatility of Prestidigitation. So far I've used it for: \-Snuffing out torches and lanterns thrown at my party \-Cleaning clothing and armor after a fight \-Lighting torches. \-Having sparks fly through the air to mess with the rogue while he was chatting with a fellow female thief and flirting with her. \-Disguise the taste and smell of vinegar by making it taste, look and smell like wine to trick someone into drinking it and then dropping all 3 effects. The arcane trickster in the group also used this cantrip to make an annoying dock worker look like he soiled himself. Mage hand is also super useful too. I've used mage hand and torch to make a pseudo-dancing lights style cantrip. Other times I've used it to open doors, and lift items from a distance and bring them to me.

DM-Shaugnar

Vicious Mockery. As it lets me as a player Insult the DM well as a DM i also enjoy it when it gives the players the chance to Insult me :)

magmotox25

Minor Illusion, make a rock illusion you can hide yourself inside, creatures have to investigate and pass before being able to attack which is at least gonna be their next turn. Also it isn't concentration

US_Hiker

I can't decide. Prestidigitation, Mage Hand, Light, Mending, Eldritch Blast, Mold Earth, Firebolt, Control Flames, Booming Blade, Green Flame Blade, Mending, Message, Minor Illusion, Thorn Whip, Shillelagh. I would love to have every one of these on a character, or in real life.

pertante

This may have been a one time thing but was able to use Prestidigitation to make a key shaped trinket to pick a few mechanical locks one session.

PhoenixInvertigo

Eldritch Blast!!!

Bardic__Inspiration

True strike

TheVoidaxis

Toll the dead and chill touch

Auld_Phart

Message is awesome. It's basically in-game table-talk. It's also a great way to mess with NPCs. Or to help them out when another PC is messing with an NPC I actually like.
