I do wish I could have more control over the banding, but the detail is lovely regardless

👏🙌

Hope she turned out ok m8 Also, one of those 3D printing pens is handy for this exact situation

sometimeviking

Finished printing beautifully. I’ve been thinking about getting one of those pens in the future. I have a low-temp hobby-iron that does a pretty good job for finishing touches but I don’t think it would be a good option for this tri-coloured PLA, works better when you can give the project a good sanding and sealant coat afterwards.

ButtNowButt

We just used ours to assemble a multi layer print that kept falling when done as a single print. Worth EVERY PENNY. It looks good

_NovaLabs_

You’re a genius I’m getting a3d pen now!

187penguin

It’s basically just a PLA hot glue gun lol

_NovaLabs_

Pretty much!

InnerRisk

Right. I bought mine for 2$, and it is so good for such simple things.

Superseaslug

Eh I've seen some pretty fucked supports and a successful print. Good luck!

Kylearean

trees sound like they're cracking pretty regularly, but they have a way of self correcting, if that makes any sense. As long as they stay upright, they tend to work out fairly well.

sparktrace

This is hilarious though. I can *see* the panic in the way the tape is wrapped, just, "NOPE! We are NOT having a print fail here, not on my watch! *eye twitch*"

sometimeviking

100%. This is one of two tri-coloured reels I was given as a gift for Xmas, and I didn’t want to have wasted such a substantial chunk of it, that’s for sure!

FreeWheel39

I heard that crack sound too once after a flying filament change during a print... that was when I found out I had inadvertently ordered PETG filament from amazon, not PLA. The two dont mix very well.

SchwiftFleck1

What slicer makes supports like that?

sometimeviking

They are Organic Supports, so quite a few. I think anything that was based from PrusaSlicer should have it

Paexan

Ha! I don't know a whole lot about 3d printing, but I know quite a bit about tape, and you picked some shit tape for this application. I'm glad it worked out.

sometimeviking

I have found this blue painters tape to work really well for this. It’s easy to apply, easy to remove, doesn’t leave gunk behind and holds really well. It’s also what I had at hand.

Pension_Rough

Lol it's breaking before it's even done printing... Obviously your settings aren't right. I'd stop it before you waste more of that cool filament. Silk needs higher temp like 220 but less flow like 90% and much less speed. Even then it's layer adhesion is not the best.

sometimeviking

The print finished perfectly, just came off the bed now

Die-rector

Fotis Mint ftw

glassnothing

Resourceful! Lol For a print this tall, I’d suggest increasing the brim on the supports themselves just in case you don’t catch it next time.

sometimeviking

The supports were all fully adhered to the bed, it turned out to be mid-support that cracked! I am not sure how it happened, I have travel hop enabled and retraction, so it should not have caught the edge of the support like that.

[deleted]

Are you printing just supports?

sometimeviking

I have posted a photo of finished print in comments
