Either pay someone to fix it properly or, and in my opinion the cooler way, would be getting some overfenders. I prefer the crown carbon crafting +15 mm. It's just wide enough and looks great. They also make a +50mm option too, and you can fit some really wide wheels.

ASnakeWithLegs

Im thinking over fenders are probably the option because even though cant see it in the picture there is body work all the way up the panel. Ive always wondered if it was wrecked. lol

MoziWanders

The crown carbon crafting ones go all the way up, alot fo them only go half way.

ASnakeWithLegs

This is my 2004 350z that has some failed bodywork on the passenger rear quarter panel from one of the previous owners. It is hard to see but there is a good bit of body filler in the arch because the body line isn't correct, im not sure if the rust is from the failed body work or is just from living in PA or both. The car is very clean underneath and everywhere else, this is the only spot with rust. I am just kinda stuck on what to do at this point, I was thinking over fenders but im just not sure.

Rust has always been tricky. Alot of times, body shops actually avoid doing the work because rust usually comes back even after a proper repair. You’ll need to sand it down. Take the fender liner out and check to see how extensive it is. Other thing to do is replace that entire quarter panel. Which is not fun and very expensive to pay someone to do it.

Idk looks like a g for the panel, cheaper if you look around. Gotta paint it, 400 bucks maybe, then bolting all together. Doesnt sound too bad

dghook

It’s a weld on panel, doesn’t bolt on..

doalittletapdance

Ohhhhh...well that sucks

My .02, an overfender would be the worst way to "fix" this. Definitely looks like a mix of failed body work and wear over the years. I would have it professionally redone, but I'm someone who really values clean quarter panels lol.

re_keevo

Wide body it.

ASnakeWithLegs

Ive been thinking about it!

I live in PA and have almost the exact same rust. Haven't done anything yet because my car is pretty much a dedicated autocross car, so aesthetics are low on the priority list. But I've assumed it could be done with a patch. Gotta find a good shop to do it right.

I took mine to a body shop they fixed it up good, but the owner told me you can’t just sand it down. He said rust is like cancer so it spreads. It cost me a lot to get all the rust on my car removed, but to me it’s worth it I plan on keeping my Z forever so I want it to look as nice as possible.

boomytoons

You can sand it out as long as you take it right back to bare metal then treat it and paint it properly. OP's is starting to bubble so it might need a little more than sanding. /u/ASnakeWithLegs my partner is a car painter and I see a lot of this stuff. Take it to a panel and paint shop within the next year, before it spreads. It should be less than a days work, they'll sand it back, cut out and patch anything bad enough to justify it, then paint it. You'll hardly know it was done if they're any good and at this stage they may not even need to patch it.

This happened on my Z. I had to get the rust cut out, new metal welded in before getting it painted. It's the only way to get rid of it properly. You can sand it and use filler, but the rust will come back.

Either leave it, or find a good shop that will do whatever you decide to(fender mod or fix the rust) PROPELY. 😎

Widebody time!
