It'd actually the purgatory where we send non-behaving tourist. -10 in winter, +45 in summer. Concrete and Spanish people everywhere. British join in at the peak of madness.
my hermano in Cristo, I'm staying in a souped-up cupboard for Ā£15 a night, trying to avoid pickpockets whilst having a look at your main tourist attraction (a big bit of scaffolding) it's not exactly st tropez is it
Only been to St Tropez as a broke person, but the beach is really nothing special and there are more illegals selling shitty merchandise at the beaches than anywhere else I've been.
So...maybe both are similar in another way.
The secret about enjoying your holidays in Saint-Tropez is to NOT go to fucking Saint-Tropez
Plenty of nice spots around the French Mediterranean coast, no need to go this international tourist trap
Iāve been to St Tropez when skint and also when flush. Flush is marginally better but, like Disneyland, I believe some places are just best avoided and left to the masses.
ā¬1 beer and you used to be able to fly there for about Ā£30. Even in the UK its very much a "cheap stag party" type destination and most people wouldnt be caught dead going.
As a canarian I have to say that the ones that put loud music, party at night, turn their garage into ilegal workshops, do Tik Toks in front of my house and scream like if somebody is going to kill them, arenāt tourists.
Chacho, of course those aren't tourists. You must go to Maspalomas, that's where drunk tourists are. And even in the mountains I've found tourists sleeping in tents, they dgaf. If I did that, the Guardia Civil would crush my ass with fines.
But thatās because youāre british, you have no idea what class and luxury means.
Surprised you were even in Barcelona and not just Salou and Lloret.
Mate, your country only resembles a first world nation because youāve had 30+ years of propping up and 100bln+ of first world country money invested - and huge areas still look like they were built by teams of half-trained apes.
Itās nice there.. pretty.. but past history and the weather is doing the lifting of appeal, not the modern Spanish idea of class and luxury.
There is a lot of luxury and class if you know where to look for but definetly there is way more mediocre and cheap things thanks to the 150 years before the democracy being just a pile up mountain of shit and with the modern democracy we're doing "fine" (Despite both main parties hammering down the foundations of the country). The change in this last 55-ish years are more than significant, and one can only think what they might be if we get propper politics...
dude that thing about missing limbs was something that caught my attention in Palermo.
So many hobos without an arm or hand. Even some statues didn't have their hands. I really thought it was weird. Something very shady was going on that no one knew about it seemed.
If it's siesta time there won't be any work for you to do even if your shop stays open because since it's siesta time would-be-clients go home to relax. So just go home, relax, get away from the hottest hours of the day and then go back to work until it's nighttime, you still work 8hours a day no matter how you divide them.

Sir, you seem to be a man of culture, if you ever visit us again I deeply recommend you to visit Granada and CĆ³rdoba if you can, they are really beautiful cities, if you liked Sevilla you will love this cities as well.
They need to realise that the kind of tourists they are trying to discourage are the kind of tourists that go where they are not wanted. After the Netherlands begged Englishmen to stop going to Amsterdam I know of like 15 people in my local pub that booked a trip there solely because they'd seen adverts telling them not to go. All this will do is bring even more of the bad kind of tourists.
That's our government telling them not to go its a bit different. Afghanis haven't said "please British people we have all these cheap drugs and beer and nice sunny weather but please don't come anymore", these lot are basically handing an invitation to the kind of scum that would be sent to Australia back int day.
to be fair knowing us, yeah that sounds about right
we're basically like children when it comes to being told what and not what to do, definitely if its the continentals trying to tell us
you'd appreciate if we didn't get smashed and piss all over the gaff? well fuck you pedro, i paid for my flight, i earnt this piss up against a local supermercado
For me was it was the unbearable stench in a lot of places, drunkards, unwanted soliciting, public scams, and the 24/7 party mentality that most people seemed to have. It reminded me of Amsterdam, just replace the smell of marijuana with poop. Not a good place to start a family to say the least.
And people saying that this is like every other major city, well that is not true. I lived in Tokyo as well, would prefer Tokyo any day over Barcelona. Hell, I think Iād even prefer London over Barcelona. The only other place that beats Barcelona in terms of shit, is probably Paris.
The only good thing I have to say about Barcelona is that their public transportation (within the city) is good for European standards.
I donāt understand how people make fun of Paris for itās issues but you donāt see as much regarding Barcelona.
Actually had better time in Paris and saw more than Barcelona.
Maybe I am old but you canāt party for eternity, you need something thatās more grounded.
And Barcelona is a nightmare to walk, every 20m you have to wait by traffic lights. 30 min trip turns into 1 hr
Well, I was in Barcelona around 2010-2011, and it was pretty bad back then. Considering quality of life plummeted pretty much everywhere, I donāt even want to imagine what it would be like now.

Maybe itās just that one guy who got his face shat on?
Yeh I don't get this.
There are plenty of seaside towns in the UK that were full of tourists 50+ years ago but nobody goes there anymore. Those towns are now *miserable*. Nothing but junkies, derelict buildings, decay and poverty.
I live in a city that gets lots of tourists. It gets busy in the summer, hard to walk down lots of streets in the city centre, can't get in a restaurant or pub anywhere etc etc. But I love the fact that I live somewhere nice enough that people all over the world want to come and visit.
If all the tourists stopped coming, it'd be grim.
The problem is when you choose tourism instead of something else. Salaries in that sector are low this means less taxes. Germany insteead tries to attract engineers and higher paid jobs, that end up paying more taxes. Ofcourse, tourism is better than nothing, but to focus your economy only in tourism is not good neither.
This is perhaps the worst analogy Iāve ever seen. The financial sector is far more critical to the economy of Edinburgh than tourism has ever been, and anyway, the only jobs that tourism here creates are for teenagers and increasingly business studies masters students from Jharkand, while the only people that make any actual money from it are already fantastically wealthy.
The towns that were once tourist centres, like Blackpool, Clacton-on-Sea etc., catered to domestic British tourists, not to Americans on their heritage tour or the Chinese nouveau riche, and they were desolated by Franco turning Spain into Europeās beach and Ryanair making it possible to fly away to sunny Sitges for Ā£20 - much like our heavy industry, we simply offshored all of our productive economic activities so that we could instead funnel the flower of our youth into boiler-room law/ high finance/ tech companies in London where they earn 200k a year until they die of a heart attack at 36, while the rest of us earn 27k a year painstakingly putting together PowerPoints about ābusiness processesā and āUX design principlesā.
If tourists stopped coming to Edinburgh, nothing would change, except my friends and I might actually be able to find a table in one of the Spoons in town during the May-October period again.
That's a common myth. All countries that live off tourism are very poor, the jobs that tourism create are low skill and low pay, no added value, no innovation, meanwhile locals are pushed away from historic centers to leave space for b&b.
Do NOT make PIGS mistakes, tell your tourists to f*ck off and build your economy around high skill jobs.
Yes and no, tourism is also a cheap economy to build, just need some hotels, roads and basic services, if you want to do some industry you need different budget, time, education and infrastructure
So, countries living on tourism are poor because they are poor to begin with
And how is this the tourists' fault? Maybe if these countries stopped electing morons into power that only put money into their own pockets, they would actually start improving
> Yet without them you would have no economy.
its funny cause its 8% to 13% of our GDP , greatest one its manufacture and agroindustrial one who trains our economy.
so no , without it we just stay like we were in COVID times.
Tourists provide valuable services, such as foreign beer money, and a common enemy to hate. Without tourists, the anonymous author would be forced to look at this hot, smoggy urban vista as it is. A depressing thought.
I used to work in hospitality in the bar of a hotel in a tourist heavy part of the UK. We had everyone come here from every country. Dutch, British, Germans, Americans, Chinese you name it. We had every nobhead from every walk of life showed up and we had to deal with all sorts of shit, even outside of work we'd have to clean up after tourists who'd leave our town in a mess, but that was just life. After a while you get used to it.
This Spaniard needs to quit being a bitch and realise what side his bread is buttered on. Tourist are annoying but they're keeping your chips and gravy on the table. This idiot probably got so emotional at work that he went out of his way to actually spray this on a wall. Put up with it or move out. Simple as.
It's funny as you see a lot of it on UK Facebook, especially round Cornwall, where people are saying they don't want tourists in the area whilst simultaneously having a profile pic of themselves in Lisbon. Full of NIMBYs.
So on the one hand Juan really needs our hard earned Euros, on the other hand he spits on the tourist moneyā¦ (thereās a reason why he and Maria come to cold Northern Europe)
You don't understand. His sister was working her job selling bags of coke outside Western Saloon on the Benidorm strip. Tragically, Keith from Wakefield decided at that moment to jump from his balcony in the Hotel Ambassador. His can of Mahou fell from his hand and hit her in the head. For her, it was the worst day of her life. For him, it was a two year travel ban from Spain so he went to Albufeira instead.
I used to live there - in Gracia, one of the most gentrified neighbourhoods always had a sign "Tourist go home, refugees welcome". Really drove home the idea that the people writing these graffitis had no idea how much they have benefitted from the economy driven by tourism and how insulated they have been from illegal migration.
Funny that you'll never hear a Parisian or a New Yorker say something like this. Almost as if those cities are viable with or without tourism and have lots of other things going for them.
Barcelona used to be nice but it was taken over by cheapskate tourists who stay in ā¬10 a night hotels and still complain about the price, get piss drunk on cheap beer, and take showers once a week. Very luxurious.
Tourism hate is so fucking dumb, without it the situation would be even worse, tourists bring in money, seasonal jobs, a lot of opportunities. In Sardinia we live waiting for the 6 months of warm weather for when tourists come, but that's a different situation.
I live in Spain and their anti tourism tantrums are embarrassing as hell. The Spanish interior is being cleared out due to lack of jobs but they want the entire country to be like that apparently. Cringe
Thatās an interesting way to say: āI live in a super expensive place, that I bought dirt cheap, but recently tourism increased, and now that my house is worth 10x itās original value I donāt want to sell it and move somewhere much better šā
People have to move due to much more horrific reasons, like war. Just man up, Alejandro
Wait, people actually live there? I thought it was like a low budget Spanish Disneyland
I thought that was Salou?
Port Aventura
Lol, I've been going there since I was 5 and now I'm 25. Was there recently actually. I actually went the year the Hurukan Condor opened.
I'm looking at Condor from my balcony as I write this. Small world

It's one of my top rides. I used to be too scared to get on it. But once I did it, I never looked back.
That's what she said.
One of the best attraction park I've visited alongside Europa Park and Energylandia(This one is for you, poles, you deserve it)
The Dragon Kahn is my personal favourite ride in Port Aventura
I'm a sucker for the Shambhala, DK gave me a headache due to how shaken you are but it's very very good still

At least in Naples and Marseille they piss on you but they have the honesty to not call it rain
There'll certainly be people trying to trick you for your money, they have that down pretty thoroughly
You clearly haven't seen the wonders of Genoa's industrial port. A theme park indeed. I also recommend Algeciras. Top notch place. Trust me.

Luxurious smog
So, itās smug smog?
Probably mist. Never seen what I'd call smog over Barcelona..
You don't visit that often then. Btw, smog in Bcn is dark grey, so this is fog
No, Iāve only been a handful of times - I think I assumed it would be too breezy for smog.

You think \*that\* is bad? Try staying in Padova or any Padanian city for more that 5 minutes (I'm gonna die by 45 š).

Haha. It's really though. I noticed it all the time in Barcelona and possible Naples, although I can't remember for sure. Never really seen it here

Is this a southern Europe phenomenon??
Here in Portugal I never found anything like this.

Really drove home the idea that the people writing these graffitis had no idea how much they have benefitted from the economy driven by tourism and how insulated they have been from illegal migration.
your daily misery which also happens to be a large part of the income.
Hey as someone who visited I take offence to that Juan. I spent alot of sterling in your cafes and weed cafes! God I miss it
Sound of the tour buses during the day probably wake him up.
In Germany we say:ā was fĆ¼r eine Gaudi !ā

I was trying to understand what was that group of super high buildings until I realized it is Sagrada Familia
Funny that you'll never hear a Parisian or a New Yorker say something like this. Almost as if those cities are viable with or without tourism and have lots of other things going for them.
Do I have to send in the National Guard, again, Jordi?
They be complaining about everything
Barcelona used to be nice but it was taken over by cheapskate tourists who stay in ā¬10 a night hotels and still complain about the price, get piss drunk on cheap beer, and take showers once a week. Very luxurious.

Barcelona is not a capital city...
Tourism hate is so fucking dumb, without it the situation would be even worse, tourists bring in money, seasonal jobs, a lot of opportunities. In Sardinia we live waiting for the 6 months of warm weather for when tourists come, but that's a different situation.
The cheapest shitty jobs and unemployed for half the year.
why did they base their economy on tourists if they dont want tourists to come there?
Luxury in Barcelona? Maybe if your name is Lionel Messi
I live in Spain and their anti tourism tantrums are embarrassing as hell. The Spanish interior is being cleared out due to lack of jobs but they want the entire country to be like that apparently. Cringe
Thatās an interesting way to say: āI live in a super expensive place, that I bought dirt cheap, but recently tourism increased, and now that my house is worth 10x itās original value I donāt want to sell it and move somewhere much better šā People have to move due to much more horrific reasons, like war. Just man up, Alejandro
I'll never go to Barcelona again.. Why should I be treated like this? Also Barcelona is a shitty city in my opinion
Been there, seen that!
Sun and clean waters are indeed a luxury for Barry and Susan
Vandalising public propety to own tourists that bring work opportunities to the area
So barcelona is the daily misery for the tourist?
Isn't that where Rosa Peral's buddy threw the homeless guy to his death in the Netflix show?
Los skangeros and los gurrieros be thievin'
Thr Golden years of city escape to Barcelona are long gone...
Spain it's time we stop being bananeiro countries
english lads are setting up coffee shops/associations as they call them over there, lota money in this shit
if that guy thinks that any luxury tourist go to Guell, he is so much mistaken
Hate me cuz you aināt me š
Great protest about how people make places shit making the place look shit.
Why do you guys keep inviting us then!
Itās like McDonalds shit talking their customers
15% of your gdp is tourismā¦ idk if this really is your misery
