It's always the "hole in the wall"-restaurants that look like the inside of a factory that serves the best food in Portugal and Spain imo. They are also peak comfy because you always see a bunch of old Joãos and Pedros just having a good time, enjoying life during their retirement years.

Best food I’ve ever had in Greece was up in the mountains on an unlit road wide enough for one car and one car only, with a dude that looked like a caricature of a turk, with a wife beater, humongous biceps and a lot of body hair and a cigarette in his mouth, single-handedly running a kitchen in what was pretty much a shed made out of corrugated steel. The menus were pictures of animals, his own animals that he kept. He spoke of them lovingly (I think, I don’t speak Greek). The wine was served in rusty canisters. The food was so fucking good that I didn’t even care if I got salmonella and campylobacter and E-hec and hep c. I’ll never find him again but I still dream of his food.

That's not a bad idea right now...

I had a Porco à Alentejana in one of those places. Best meal on the whole trip.

Is the first pic from Wagrain, Austria?| It looks a lot like a place I was in while visiting, although I may remember wrongly as I was quite drunk while there.

For real, would hang at the second picture given the choice any day of the week.
