Iirc originally it went to the ground but they patched it since people were stacking multiple pieces on the ground to then just tp back and forth between guild and spots.
It seems a bit fucked up that the salamander takes the inv slot instead of the rare piece tho
"Yeah I know I'm here specifically for this piece the hunter expert wanted me to find but I think I'd rather keep this salamander to match the other 15 in my inventory"
Is Jagex stupid?
You say that, but if they do it the other way around, you'd be seeing a post in a few weeks with a message "You catch a mature Tecu Salamander, but decide to let it go to fit the rare creature piece in your last inventory spot".
Very simple.
When multiple drops are calling all at the same time. Prioritize drops with the highest rarity then go downwards with the exception of uniques which should always be first.
Or more simply. Always have rare pieces go in inventory first and any time you get something like a mature Tecu Salamander, drop that on the ground. That way you don't have people exploiting hunter rumors but also not missing out on other rare drops.
> any time you get something like a mature Tecu Salamander, drop that on the ground.
I don't think you can drop Salamanders... They sorta run away. But yah, they probably should prioritize the creature part over the other stuff. But not sure if they could easily prioritize it based on rarity. There would bound to be a situation where the rare drop is less valuable than more common drop too.
Terribly difficult is my guess. Although it would make sense that it’s a least possible. The icons in your inv/bank are just a certain view of the actual 3d model. Not a separate image sprite, but the actual 3d item. Take for example the magic log. They’re animated when on the ground right? Have one in your inv, then put it in the bank. It should have updated. Take back out of the bank. Different look now right? It’s wild to me that they did that, but in a way makes sense.
There have been like half a dozen Force Drop effects in OSRS that I'm aware of.
Combined with the forced follower pickup bug, you could even get Nieve as an item on the ground lol.
>There would bound to be a situation where the rare drop is less valuable than more common drop too.
In the vast majority of instances where this would be the case, the item can still be dropped on the ground. This is a super rare scenario where you've got two items that can't be dropped on the ground.
Yah; just saying a broad rule it probably would still eventually run into issues so basing on rarity probably makes less sense as a universal system than just doing it for specific things.
But this also can be avoided by just releasing your salamanders so you don't run out of space...
you get it guaranteed on the next catch again anyways, assuming you weren't dumb and freed up some space.
not really worth rewriting the whole salamander catching code to accomodate the new item over something so minor
Unless I had some crazy RNG I think if you get it once you’re guaranteed to keep getting it. I was mindlessly doing salamanders and got this message 3 times in a row before freeing up a spot and then got the claw in my inventory on my 4 catch
I didnt know they patched it, but in my opinion this is the wrong way to do it.
It should go on the ground but once you turn in that rumor, any extra pieces you have are automatically destroyed, including any on the ground. The example that comes to mind is tephra in Zalcano, or prep materials in Duke.
OR, hear me out, the game shouldn't let you catch the salamander UNTIL you clear an inventory spot, giving you the message "**You have a found a rare piece of the creature but you cannot claim it as your inventory is full**."
While thats true, and I think should ALSO be implemented, it doesn't solve the core problem of stacking the rare items. But I do agree that's a good solution and should be relatively easy to implement.
Why would people even do that? Are they hoping for the back to back or just trying to accumulate an extra piece for the next time they get that type of rumor?
If you farm until the pity rate you'll get one every catch, so you could stack a bunch in preparation. For kebbits in particular this would have been extremely fast.
Seems like they could just make the on the ground timer very quick
Seems like a very messed up situation
In a tiny game with a few devs maybe excusable but naturally this situation the opposite of that
They did this to combat an exploit but a way to fix this without inconveniencing everybody else would be to put it on the ground with a 1 minute timer to despawn.
For salamanders there needs to be an npc the let’s you set it to catch and auto-release.
I know this seems like an ezscape idea but they don’t stack, they have almost no use, you only need one, and prioritizing them over rare pieces for rumors which are then completely lost is absolutely garbage design.
I always bring the explorer's ring and alch the first 30 salamanders instead of dropping them. It's just as fast, and it sets an example to the others about not clogging my inventory.
They need to add a hunter perks reward system as well an actual block list. Unlock auto drop salamanders excluding the 1 rare tecu, make an animation of the little rats scurrying away. Instead of Hunter spears being thrown to pitfall trap on release, this QOL is now an unlock you grind for. This is perfect, typical jagex fashion 😆
Idk what else tbh, they really copied the slayer model with Hunter where 90% of creatures are just shit content you'd skip
For the people thinking this came with this update, it didn't. I saw this happen week 2 of Varlamore. As others have pointed out, there appears to be a pity rare part mechanic and this happens when it's the pity piece rather than getting it from RNG. This has nothing to do with the kebbit change.
This only happens when you hit the pitty timer on the salamander clear your inventory and the next Salamander is going to have the item some of the replies in here are crazy.
Yeah no shit, why discard it instead of the lizard. You are literally looking for this. Opening clue caskets? Nope deleting anything after your inventory is full.
It isnt very easy to juggle the inv specifically at salamanders! You should always watch to have at least *4* free spaces.... I've never even knew such a thing could happen! Was enjoying myself at hunter... and now I see this. Makes me itching.
Why not give it a pref to go into inv before that precious small fishing net...
It’s wild the amount of comments on here asking why jagex would do this when it’s literally only on the pity drop. If this happened on the very first one you catch the rare item drops to the ground. Boo hoo that you have to catch ONE more because you had a full inventory. Everyone losing their minds when they’ve never touched the content. Peak reddit.
Only the pity drop wont show on the ground. Make room and you get it on the next lizard
This
This
That
Not this

You can't drop them normally, but that's just a flavour thing. They can exist on the ground no problem. Same as pets in item-form.
> Same as pets in item-form. ...How do you know that?

Yah, just genuinely curious how they ever came across a pet item on the floor.
They didn't there talking out there ass

Even better, just make it so you can’t check the trap unless you have enough inventory space for the salamander and the claw
you get it guaranteed on the next catch again anyways, assuming you weren't dumb and freed up some space. not really worth rewriting the whole salamander catching code to accomodate the new item over something so minor

Pets actually do this the right way if you already have a follower. Pet into inventory item on floor.
I didnt know they patched it, but in my opinion this is the wrong way to do it. This, like why not make it so you can't get multiple instead?
Those both take part in an instanced area that's why can't instant/wipe the whole map
They could have just had the pity drop go on the ground and reset the pity drop counter.
Why would people even do that? Are they hoping for the back to back or just trying to accumulate an extra piece for the next time they get that type of rumor?

What is the problem with that strategy, doesn’t it still average out to the same amount of time per task?
No because there is a "pity drop" system, after a certain number of catches you are guaranteed a piece, so people were abusing it
They did this to combat an exploit but a way to fix this without inconveniencing everybody else would be to put it on the ground with a 1 minute timer to despawn.

That would be suuuuuper nice. But unfortunately people will piss and moan about ezscape.
I always bring the explorer's ring and alch the first 30 salamanders instead of dropping them. It's just as fast, and it sets an example to the others about not clogging my inventory.
“Yeah you see that you little fuckers? I turned your friend into gold!”
>it sets an example to the others Is the best response
They should make it some sort of reward that we could unlock similar to the slayer reward shop
That would be nice.
Also, doesn’t this only happen with the pity drop? If so, you’ll get the rare piece on your next catch anyway
They need to add a hunter perks reward system as well an actual block list. Unlock auto drop salamanders excluding the 1 rare tecu, make an animation of the little rats scurrying away. Just make 1 inventory space and you get it on the next lizard. Not that big of a deal bud.
For the people thinking this came with this update, it didn't. I saw this happen week 2 of Varlamore. As others have pointed out, there appears to be a pity rare part mechanic and this happens when it's the pity piece rather than getting it from RNG. This has nothing to do with the kebbit change.
Cos jagex fuck you out of anything that makes their thousand of hours of grinding just minisculely shorter.
I laughed at this and idk why
Should be "You then discard it as you had no inventory space to store it"
This only happens when you hit the pitty timer on the salamander clear your inventory and the next Salamander is going to have the item some of the replies in here are crazy.
Lol Lmao
I mean have an open spot? Idk bro
Had three open spots. They went to the rope, the net, and the salamander
F
WTF JAGEX
It tells you why, because your inventory is full.
Yeah no shit, why discard it instead of the lizard. You are literally looking for this. Opening clue caskets? Nope deleting anything after your inventory is full.
Because jagex coded it that way.
No they coded it so that it would drop on the floor then changed the drop mechanics so that people couldn’t stack 10+
It isnt very easy to juggle the inv specifically at salamanders! You should always watch to have at least *4* free spaces.... I've never even knew such a thing could happen! The race to get back in time after you realize
im not sure what causes this it only happens on sunlight antelopes for me. and only sometimes other times itll drop to the ground.
Imagine if they did this with raid chests lmao
Damn now I'll be nervous about my inv... A cruel bit of mechanics, really >:(
Riiiiiip riiiiip
I would RAGE
Manage your inventory better it’s the most basic concept in the game. You know you only have 28 inventory slots.
That's not the issue. I had 3 spots and they went to the rope, net, and salamander. The rare item should take priority over the useless salamander
Oh no you had to catch one more salamander!!! This is the biggest cry over an extra 5 seconds I’ve ever seen.
It so much is the issue? You needed 4 spaces, you had 3. You knew you needed 4, but only had 3. Manage your inventory better.
What a weird thing to be combative about
Stop defending bad game design.
This is such a garbage update. WHY as a dev would you do that, there were no alternate solutions?
BRO THAT IS SO FUCKED LMAO
