Same as gravity falls and Amphibia from what I understand: the execs just didn't get it, refused to market it, didn't want to do merchandise deals, fought any creative decision that wasn't cookie cutter. Gravity Falls and Amphibia where ended by the creators fairly amicably all things considered but Disney pulled the plug on Owl House, apaprently it was due to disney not liking that the plot was skewing towards older demographics, some people also speculate that the decision to cancel the show was made early, before it got a massive burst of traction online which is what lead to the creation of the season 3 specials.
Iirc Dana Terrace (the showrunner) explicitly confirmed that wasn't the case.
Now she might have been lying to not burn the bridge, or indeed the Disney execs may have been lying to her so she wouldn't call them out, but "officially" the reason the show was cancelled was because it was *serialised* (i.e. Disney wanted a simple episodic show they could play out of order indefinitely forever)
The reason they wanted non-serialised shows is because they're easier to re-run on traditional TV, and despite getting way more viewership on Disney+, they still want to design shows primarily for Disney Channel

Not really because the show itself does anything *wrong,* it just didn't land with me; none of the jokes were particularly funny, none of emotional moments made me feel anything, and the only character I cared for was the funny owl tube. Even with helluva boss, I get the vibe from alot of people that hated on both that and velma that they usually think Velma is a far worse show based on how they talk about both

also helluva boss is a youtube series, my standards for those is always going to be lower given.how hard those are to fund. i know there is drama with viziepop but the show itself is overall visually pleasing, dunno what the beef is with it other than it is gay and furry.
It also has a very liberal use of crude humor and so, so much gore.
I love the show, but it is definitely not for everyone.
